Boeing 777 Crashes at San Francisco International Airport
The49er replied to GigaG's topic in Random, Random, Random
2 confirmed dead last time I checked, with 60 unaccounted for. I was actually over at SFO today, trying to fly to Philadelphia. We noticed what appeared to be dust coming from the airport area, but we figured it was just a grass fire. However, black smoke became visible, and we knew that something was off. Eventually, we discovered what had happened. The airport was completely shut down for several hours, including the nearby freeway for a while. Airport staff reports on when flights would resume conflicted, but after much waiting we were told that "no flights are leaving today...maybe tomorrow, too". After rebooking our flight, we headed home. Good thing we left, because even though two runways are reopening, our flight got cancelled. -
Deadmau5 - "Strobe" Probably his best song.

Rap music. Rap music is always worse. What's worse than every fast food restaurant closing? -

^^Wait, so it's basically just the Arrows that have short lines (+Blue Streak)? Arrow fan is sad -
Where. Is. THAT?!?! I must use it on my trip on May 4th! EDIT: I would also like to know the following: -Standard waits for SUF -Bracing strategies for Kong If you're walking toward the exit of the park, on the right side there's a shop called Kingdom Market, and attached to that is a candy and fudge shop called Cartoon Candy Kitchen. You'll see a big sign advertising the freestyle machine on the front of the building, and the machine is in the fudge shop toward the back. If there's another freestyle machine at the park, I haven't come across it yet. I generally like to speed walk to S:UF first thing after opening, and the waits have generally been pretty short. Do you have the Six Flags app with the coaster wait times? Maybe check up on it the weekend before your trip. For Kong, I'm partial to the front row (although on a recent trip, the ride op said, "There are no rows on Kong that are less rough...they are all equally rough"). I hold on tight, tense up my shoulders and press into the restraint, and rest my cheek lightly on the side of the OTSR. Also, to me it seems worse when it's colder, so I recommend riding Kong in the heat of the day. The problems here: -I can't be there at opening; I'll probably arrive at noon or 1 -I won't have Internet access in the park unless they have free Wi-Fi (which I doubt)

Is anyone else excited for Daft Punk's 4th studio album? If you haven't heard the rest of their music, YOU MUST!!1! Was that sufficient emphasis?

Hello again! This summer, I'm taking a trip here to BGW and Water Country. I know that the coasters and Vanish Point are awesome, but what flats and other slides would you recommend? DarKastle looks like it would be fun, and I heard Europe in the Air was meh. EDIT: Also, what are some magic seats/rows? (ex. Back of Apollo's Chariot)

I'm heading to DLR for 1 1/2 weekend days, and it will likely be crowded. We'll have 2-day park hoppers, and we'd like to ride the following: -Cars Land stuff -Roller coasters excluding GSS and GGC -Star Tours II -Toy Story Midway Mania -ToT? -Autopia? -New Orleans Square dark rides Do you have any tips or an itinerary? Also, is Redd Rockett's Pizza Port back open? We always stop there Thanks for your time.

How do you guys think the new Bay Area coasters match up against each other (Superman and Gold Striker)? Granted, GS isn't open yet... I've been informed that the nearby middle school might actually be going to SFDK in 2013 for the first time (the year CGA opens a new coaster >:O), and I was curious as to which might be a better ride.

Nice TR...um, again maybe? I'm too lazy to see if I already said this. It'll be interesting to see a metal lover in Texas... -
Favorite Disney Park
The49er replied to America Sings Freak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Color me confused. I've only been to the California parks (albeit dozens of times), and yet I can't pick a favorite. Disneyland Park is great. The atmosphere is lush and welcoming with epic area music. There are delicious churros that I can eat while sipping hot cocoa and watching the fireworks. Internal and external barriers keep us from seeing other lands except for when it's appropriate to the storytelling. Each individual land is immersive and beautiful (my favorite is Tomorrowland); plus, everything just seems nostalgic and...well, Disneyland is Disneyland. DCA...Am I the only person who didn't mind the original theming? Granted, I was young when I first went, but being a theme park that I visited young and frequently, the surroundings became familiar. I remember eating frozen lemonade and clam chowder, my first rides on California Screamin', ToT, the Maliboomer, and all those rides... Both parks have always been favorites. -

The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread

Here's my newest crazy idea. I sent similar e-mails to a few SF parks (yes, they do contain lots of praising SF):
