Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
The49er replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have a friend who referred to California Screamin' as "The California Goes Screamin'". -

Why? Why is it a bad idea to install a version of a proven ride, but make it better by increasing the comfort for the riders, while decreasing the likelihood that people will HATE IT? What could possibly be bad about that idea? I thought the backwards portion, especially in the cobra roll, would get one's upper body flailing around, but I could be wrong. -

A Boomerang with only lap bars? That sounds like a bad idea, too. Also, what is American Thunder a clone of? -

Favorite Coaster Sounds

My favorite coaster sound? The hissing of brakes releasing and Intamin LIMs. They are like music to my ears. -
Favorite roller coaster?

Most of all, one of my utmost regrets is not riding X2 when I went last year. Therefore, X2. -
Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said

We went over to chill with some family friends, and I heard this: "You know, the boys were asking to go to Great America, but with that guy getting stuck on the roller coaster..." Sigh...loosen up a little at least. -
Even a EuroFighter or just something unexpected would be nice. After removing many a star attraction (even the Invertigo was loved by those who tried it), this is what they need to compete. Also, when I asked a nearby middle school band teacher why their band trip goes there, she replied, "Because the kids like it." So apparently they have a smidge of charm on their hands, at least more than SFDK.

Someone is very welcome to correct me if I'm seeing this wrong, but I was under the impression that the concrete slabs were simply done for ease of construction on woodies that are mostly on flat ground (as many GCIs are). One giant slab with steel connecting plates drilled into in a thousand different places is a lot easier to pour than a thousand individual small footers. Anyone care to confirm or refute? Is it also more stable this way? I would assume so, but that could be just me.

Most Intense B&M!
The49er replied to Beate's Freak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Flight Deck @ CGA and Tatsu are my picks thus far. I was unable to ride Riddler or Batman while I was at SFMM, so I can't quite factor those in. Flight Deck: It doesn't let up, and one of my friends looked dead in the on-ride photo. Tatsu: The first drop is insane; you're practically inverted. Also, the pretzel loop is wildly forceful. That is why Tatsu is my #1 coaster, among other reason. -

I've heard that rides like Phoenix at Knoebels and Magnum XL-200 at CP (third row, right?) have "Magic Rows" that provide, say, more negative Gs or whatever. People also often recommend the back. Do many rides have Magic Rows, or is that just a matter of personal preference?

No World of Color?! Not even riding the Roller Skater?! SHUNNED! I'm just joking. Nice report; hopefully you'll get to see World of Color sometime. -
Whats Your Favorite Disney Hotel And Why?
The49er replied to Hattuchili's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
All hail the mighty thread bump! My favorite of the Disney hotels would be the Grand Californian. Maybe I'm just a sucker for craftsman/art deco architecture, but that place was fantastic. DLH is also nice post-renovation and the monorail slides rock! I also liked Paradise Pier; you just can't go wrong with a Disney hotel.
