Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

I wonder how many applicants they are going to get this week with their $20/hr announcement? I wonder if they'll get enough new hires out of this to reverse their closure dates for at least the last Tues/Wed in June. Starting at $20/hr is a game changer in the theme park industry, even if its just a seasonal job. Once they are able to get international workers again (probably 2022) if they keep this starting wage they'll have a lot less staffing issues going forward. The only thing is it still lists $15/hr as a starting wage on their website. They they just get around to updating it yet? https://jobs.cedarfair.com/our-parks/cedar-point/ -
I'm not sure what will happen of this but I'm all for expanding Disneyland and DCA, and adding more shops, restaurants, hotels and experiences. I would love to see a Disney water park on the West Coast, like a cross between Blizzard Beach and Volcano Bay but with its own theme, and it could fit easily on that Toy Story parking lot plot of land.

I just visited last week (before my Premier Pass expires at the end of the month) and it is fine if you are mainly a rides person. I do miss a few shows like fireworks but the lower capacity means under one hour waits for most of the rides (as long as you don't visit on a busy holiday weekend or during peak Spring Break - I left just as the Spring Break crowds were arriving). Also there are still plenty of good food options available to keep infrequent visitors satisfied aside from a lot of quick service locations in Magic Kingdom being closed. Flower & Garden Festival is currently running at Epcot until July and the food choices are pretty much as good as Food & Wine Festival. I was satisfied with the available food choices at Animal Kingdom as well and even Hollywood Studios (thanks to Galaxy's Edge). For Magic Kingdom though I would try a reserve a table service restaurant (I recommend Skipper Canteen) as most of their open quick serve locations are just basic options like burgers and hot dogs.

I just discovered this today. While the last several Super Bowl halftime shows have been sponsored by Pepsi did you know that in 1995 Disney produced the halftime show and it was pretty much a vessel to promote the new Indiana Jones Adventure ride that was opening at Disneyland that year. It was a bizarre hodgepodge spectacle that featured Patti LaBelle and Tony Bennett because, you know, that’s what 90s kids were listening to, and also featured a cameo of a Lion King song. I wasn’t sure where else to post this on here but I found it fascinating. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yeah, if someone thinks they can sell condos there then I have some ocean front property I can sell you in California City. I will admit that I thought the lake by the park was nice and better then I expected and I liked Blue Streak’s placement in the woods but the rest of the park looked worse than a third rate county fair. Did you ride the shuttle loop in China that scraped through the loop and looked like it wasn’t going to make it? That one looked crazy! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Looks impressive. Nice to see a new original B&M invert in 2021. With a set open date for April 24 this may end up opening sooner then three coasters in Florida, two of which were supposed to open last year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Twisted Cyclone at SFOG last month. I started my day at this park with two rides on it and ended my night with two more rides on it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I'lI be sad if the coasters that take advantage of their views are removed. I may have to try and visit Hong Kong in the next couple of years before these changes are implemented. -
It was inevitable. I think the Tokyo Olympics will end up getting axed this year too. I feel bad for Japan as I know they would have been great hosts and would have been prepared for it unlike other countries in the past. I don't know if they will push each host city's date back four years and let Tokyo host in 2024, but if not then the Olympic committee needs to give the next open Olympics to Tokyo. I know Tokyo isn't Osaka but I think the Olympic tourism would have trickled more people in Osaka and USJ. Not that USJ needs any more people to visit, they are plenty crowded already.

RIP Disneyland Annual Pass. I was a first time Disney passholder and got to enjoy 8 ½ months of it at Disneyland before it shut down but since I got a Premier Pass, I also go to enjoy three visits to WDW since I activated my pass in June 2019. The Premier Pass is supposed to be good at WDW through March 31 before it ends for good (according to the email I received) so I may have to squeeze in one final trip there. As for the membership program that replaces the Disneyland AP, what I could see working is something that limits the amount of included visits you get per month or year, so you get less "hang out" for a few hours visits OR a points system membership or pass where you only get a certain amount of points to visit per month or year and peak days and Saturdays use more points then slower weekdays. I personally wouldn't mind a pass that lets me visit 8-12 days a year especially living 200 miles away although I won't likely go back until 2022. I don't think Disneyland will implement their new passholder replacement until 2022 or when they can operate at close to full capacity. When they open later this year at reduced capacity they will have plenty of people redeeming unused purchased tickets to fill the void of APs plus anyone that really wants to go that badly will buy a ticket. It will be interesting to see what unfolds going forward.

I didn't realize there were that few left. Now that I think about I believe I've only been on two traditional shuttle loops. Does this include shuttle loops from all manufacturers or just Schwartzkopf? -
Magic Mountain would make way more money with a normal Holiday in the Park with guests roaming around in a normal year, but I think drive thru holiday events would work well for parks that are normally closed in the winter because its too cold like Cedar Point. All these parks would have to do is plow their pathways and decorate their parks and let people pay money to drive their cars through the parks. Even parks that are open in the winter like Magic Mountain could have the drive thru option for slower weeknights when their parks would normally be closed or dead but could be worth staffing minimally for having people drive their cars through.

RIP Garfield's Nightmare. I'm glad I got to experience it on my last visit to Kennywood. Garfield is an underrated cartoon character and deserves a much better theme park ride. I was bummed Kennywood didn't have any Garfield merchandise as I would have bought a Kennywood t shirt if it had Garfield on it. I suspected Garfield's Nightmare was on its way out when no Garfield merchandise was present on my last visit in 2018. I wish another theme park chain would adopt Garfield and use him as one of their primary characters and in merchandise and a good dark ride.

Is Montezooma's Revenge really the only shuttle loop left in the US??
