  1. When the first response is "wow, theme parks are unsafe," I wanted to point out that it wasn't necessarily a SF employee. Not turn this into war of professional journalism. Take a chill pill people. I'm not one to start flame wars. EDIT: They changed the headline since I posted this morning. Worker AT Great America With a harness, I'm a bit confused on how he'd fall. I guess from the reports, his co-workers all saw him fall. Obviously very sad, for his family. And as pointed out, this certainly confirms the removal of Splash Waterfalls.
  2. ^ EXACTLY. ^^ By the way, how are teacups possesive?
  3. We're not splitting hairs. How many people in the GP are going to put one and one together. It's going to stick in their minds that it's another safety issue with Six Flags. Not that it was a construction company. As for cheap gas. I'd love to know. It went up .20 cents from yesterday.
  4. This is typical American journalism at it's finest. The headline reads "Great America Worker" but then they go on to state he works for a construction company. Two completely different entities.
  5. Worker at Great America dies after falling 40 feet A worker trying to dismantle a ride Tuesday morning at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee died after falling more than 40 feet, officials said. Thomas Lee, 46, of Pleasant Prairie, Wis., was part of a Campanella & Sons crew taking apart the Splash Water Falls ride at the theme park when he fell about 9 a.m., officials said. Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said Lee suffered head and chest trauma in the accident. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration has launched an investigation to see if appropriate safety measures were in place, Keller said. Gurnee Fire Department Battalion Chief Bob Heraver said it appeared that the ride, in which a boat drops about 50 feet into water, was intact and structurally sound. Lee was on top of the structure with a crew of about six to eight workers when the accident happened, Heraver said. "We don't know how he fell -- he was working with the guys and they said he fell," Heraver said, possibly by sliding off or losing his footing. "Nobody really saw exactly what happened until it started to happen, we don't know if it was a slip, a trip or something gave way," Heraver said. He said a harness was found attached to Lee's body, but he said it was unclear if it was properly secured while he was working. Lee was rushed to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced dead, according to Keller. Lee was working for a company that was removing the ride from the theme park, making way for future expansion, said Six Flags Great American spokeswoman Brooke Gabbert. Gurnee Police Department officials could not be reached for comment late Tuesday. In June 2004, a Great America maintenance worker died after being struck by a roller coaster.
  6. Colin, what would you know about orgasms?
  7. ^ You'd be wrong. It can do AVI too.
  8. ^ Any ride where the car makes the turn banked on the outside looks like trouble. I foresee much pain. I'm leaving myself open for judgement, but with the other news of IB, I'm not setting high expectations.
  9. ^ That Tobaggan was my very first credit, when it was at Santa's Village in Dundee, IL. I got to relive the nightmare this summer when I rode it again with Paul. Jahan nailed Little-A-Merrick-A to a T. That place gave me grade A willies. Although, I give them major kudos. When we visited, there was no one there. The general manager noticed us as probable coaster nerds, and made sure that a ride op was at each of the credits, so we could get each ride as quickly as possible. Well, that and so that they could close early.
  10. LOL Terrance you are so right. I think we really need to appreciate how much the mods do for us on this website. They defenitly keep this site fun to be on. Also, I do laugh at the kids who get warned not to do something, and do it anyways. Makes me laugh...really hard. ---Brent All you have to do is check the forums on a day when there's an event going on, and the mods are away. It fills with spam and stupidity quite quickly. Kudos to all of the mods.
  11. Chuck, I would love to see that book! Wait til you guys see some of the Disneyland and World stuff I dug out of the basement. My parents are Disney geeks, and kept everything from their earlier trips.
  12. I think the bantron is hungry.
  13. Well, Scott has run into a hellacious work week, so I'll keep this moving. I had hoped to get back to the parental units home and grab another set of PTR type pics from our trip in 1984, but that will have to wait until next week. So, intead I bring you the 1986 Pictorial of EPCOT. This book included the Magic Kingdom, but I'll post those in a seperate thread with some other WDW goodies I have. More importantly, we've got pictures of three new additions to EPCOT Center since it's opening four years ago (in 1982, in case you forgot). Horizons *giggidy, giggidy, giggidy* is open along with Living Seas, and Morocco. Journey into Imagination the ride has also been open for three years now. Off to Spaceport..... Honestly. Canada? Does anyone know they exist? Eh? Jolly, jolly, jolly. Now go away, or I shall taunt you a secondah tahme. Whoa, whoa, whoa. What in god's name is this? Morocco? Next thing you know they'll add some country like Norway. Any country that comes up with Robotech is alright by me. America. Raise your golden wings. Let freedom ring, above the skyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. It will be a grand three hour finale about all countries, but mostly America. When the moon hits your eye, like a big pizza a pie. That's amore. Home of my ancestors. It explains my love for beer, and my short fuse. Boom, boom, boom. Let me hear you say way ooooo. Way ooo. Ole, ole, ole, ole. I just loved this pavillion at night. The design and lighting were awesome. Until they did away with the Hydrolators, I made my parents watch the movie. I used to really think we were going to an under sea base. There it is. Kitchen Kabaret. I miss Bonnie Appetite. She was one hot mama. Listen to the Land we all love. Nature's plan will shine above. Why do these songs torture me? The Dreamcatcher, which can now be found in Mousegears. The awesomely cool Rainbow Tunnel, and one of the computer that let you color pictures. Still my favorite part of Future World. We used to play in the fountains by the exit of the Magic Eye Theater for hours. I've got video tape to prove it. Here's some of the hands on exhibits. I'm glad to see Innoventions getting back to this format. Communicore. You can go on the Astor Commputer Revue, and talk to SMRT1 (the little blue robot). The outdoor part, was such a cool way to begin a ride. I'll just keep singing you the theme songs. It's fun to be free. To be on the move. To go anywhere. There's a great big beautiful tomorrow.... Oh gawd......tissue. I NEED TISSUE! I like picture books. Here we go. Watch it grow. It's the Universe of Energeeeeee. I miss Walter Cronkite's narration. I don't miss him as Walter Croncat, though. This book takes you through the attractions in good order and quickly, as it's sharing pages with the Magic Kingdom. Disney is magic. How the heck do you get the sky to match the pavillions light scheme? Yay! We're back!
  14. ^ Patience young grass hopper. I recall someone else *cough* ^ *cough* posting their ideas as the way things should be done at MM just because they worked for maintenance. The idea of more trains means less down time is wonderful. In a world where money is no problem. And you certainly can't say that Disney has their rides open all year round, because of that very reason. They don't. Rides are machines with multiple pieces and parts, and things break. It's the way things work. They break down.
  15. Wait. I'm confused. Wes, if you're an "Ex coaster nerd" does that just make you a nerd now?
  16. I'm reduced to several other friends.
  17. That's not speculation. It's a fact. As for retirement, it's long been known the Brett FaVRe needs to be the center of attention, and is a bit of records whore. He got his records this past year, now he's done. I wouldn't be surprised if he's back before the end of the year.
  18. ^ Fine then. I'm revoking the Alvey's season passes for Chateau Jacobs.
  19. ^ I'm wearing glasses the next time I see you.
  20. It's not down here. I can't find it, and I gots hook ups. Guess I'll just have to go to Minneapolis.....
  21. OK, onto the pictures of my first visit. My Father dated the pics, and we were there 11/2-4/1982. So, just a little over a month after opening. We typically went to WDW every year from when I was two years old until I was Freshman in highschool around the first week of November. Like now, crowds were light. Although, as you'll see, much lighter than they are now, thanks to the awesome Food and Wine Festival. Things to note, is for one, the size of the trees. Countries could easily be seen from one another due to the sheer small in stature trees. Two, notice how nice the Fountain of Nations courtyard is without all the silly shade tarps. And why I love SSE without the wand. Three, there's alot of empty space. There's no Horizons, Living Seas, Spain....errr Morocco, and Norway. As Peter Pan says, "Off we gooooooo."
  22. Like the post right above yours????? Good grief.
  23. ^ Germany was supposed to have a boat ride through the Rhine River. Honestly. How many boat rides does one park need? I'm scanning Little Matt pics as we speak.....and about to make a phone call.
