Photo TR - Europe 2012 with TPR
simon8899 replied to KBrylczyk's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Looks like you had fun at Europa-Park. Let's say we agree on Silver Star and disagree on Euro-Sat. I won't have seatbelts on these. And I don't know any account of someone falling of a raft - may it be park or carnival. And next to that there are big signs in the station area and inside the raft: If someone falls off there is no liability whatsoever... -
What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?

Vekoma Boomerang! A first?
simon8899 replied to GrapesLie's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
In Germany we've only one Boomerang in Bavaria and so far never been there. So my first Boomerang was the Invertigo at Sommerland Syd just behind the german/danish border which I quite enjoyed. My first sitdown Boomerang was at Knotts which was quite horrible mostly because of the old Arrow trains - and with Monte and Xcelerator there the Boomerang was just a ride-once credit.I liked the lapbar trains at Vienna Prater but the best are the new Vekoma-trains with the Rubber-OTSRs which I rode at Walibi Holland on Speed Of Sound. Still hope to do a GIB someday... -
2013- What are you most excited for?
simon8899 replied to Chroniq's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Not specially for a new coaster but visiting the Orlando for this time since I was a kid - at a time when there were only Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Sea Wolrd and Cypress Gardens... My new coaster frenzy comes 2014 with Project Helix... -
Venus GP was the first looper made by Maurer-Söhne after their purchase of the former Schwarzkopf coaster division from BHS - it's still using a lot from coasters like Jetline. Also there're similarities to the older Intamin loopers like California Screamin - both manufacturers hiring Schwarzkopf engineers and continued were they left off a few years earlier, with some founding Gerstlauer... Dou you have some pics of the parks flats?

A good-looking park this time! Rode my first SkyWheel this year and the upside-down hangtime is awesome. What troubles me is that the chinese now built their first "SkyWheel made in China", with luck they got a license and technical support from Maurer (<- I know: Good joke!).

Will there be some more pics of the Shuttle Loop? Looking great in red! The spinning coaster looks like a stationary version of germany's portable indoor coaster Höllenblitz. The Evolution was formerly on the german carnival circuit and I loved the ride, glad it found a new home. Overall they seem to have a good collection of carnival rides there. And for what in the world needs a rafting ride restraints???

Why do kiddie coaster credits matter to you?
simon8899 replied to edh's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
While the MACK YoungSTAR, Gerstlauer Family and Vekoma MK-700 can be fun and they at least have some height and speed I mostly don't do the Wacky Worms or Zierer Tivolis - and even if I ride the former I won't drive for them hours or even visit a park that only has kiddie coasters even if the park is right on my way. -
As the Bremen Freimarkt ended yesterday coming friday starts the last major carnival for this year in germany in my hometown Hamburg. To wet the appetite some construction pics from the official Hamburg website including some pictures of the Schwarzkopf Double-Loop Teststrecke.

I've been visiting Tivoli Gardens for over 20 years now and it's the best brakemen woodie available. And over all this time Tivoli is keeping the brakemen so these guys know their ride inside out and are able to ride it to the limit. Compare Rutschebanen to the taller Vouristorata at Linanmaki the brakemen at the latter nearly push their trains around the curves and sometimes you fear the train wouldn't make the hill... -
Over the years I saw most poeple got turned away for beeing too round on Intamin coasters - specially those with seatbelts. The most forgiving coasters are IMO still the Schwarzkopf coasters and flats as they mostly have lapbars which just have to fit over your legs - but on these I saw women get turned away but also once saw a very big man at Hansa-Park who was allowed to ride with one lapbar over each leg... I mostly have problems with my height. Gladly I was so far never turned away even from the max. 1,95m coasters - I'm 1,96m plus shoes. But on many flats, specially those by Technical Park the headrest pokes into my shoulders...

^^Agree! Even as it was considered cold when I was at SFMM last year I really enjoyed the ride on Log Jammer late midday. And as I gather it can get quite hot up there so I can't understand why they don't put in a new waterride. For Knotts it'll be the second MACK coaster and I think it's a good add - with luck this won't be a standard large park model, maybe the first drop will be similar to the one at Wild Mouse XXL here on the carnival circuit. The only problem with wild mice is their lack of capacity...

Hurricane Sandy vs. Roller Coasters
simon8899 replied to UrbanLegend's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's very sad to see all the lives and villages destroyed by this storm. As living near the North Sea with having regular storms that go 4 or 5 meters over normal sea level I can understand the feelings of the folks living there. My parents still know the times of the major North Sea flood of 1962 were major areas of nothern germany were flooded and hundreds killed. On the other hand I hope that the US learns it's lesson as germany did at the time: As the biggest construction effort after WWII the German Coastline Protection Works were built all along the coastline and all major rivers to withstand floods up to 7 meters over normal water level. The whole North Sea coast was walled in with dikes/levees. Smaller rivers can be closed with massive flood gates. This however means that no one can live with direct sea view anymore - as you can see on this areal picture of the North Sea bath of Büsum all buildings are of course behind the 8-9 meter high dikes/levees. After the 1962 flood the street level was highly elevated to prevent city flooding Massive floodgates were installed all over the city to close off low-lying harbor areas -

Great pictures! Also love the ride selection, specially the Inversion and Huss Take Off. And this fair has even more bumper cars the Vienna Prater... Do you have more information about the last coaster with the electric spiral lift? Looks familiar even if it could be a knock-off, at least the cars look new...
