  1. Most people don't get the restraints on the woodies with 2 lapbars and 1 seatbelt. Why not putting in individual seatbelts? Would speed up things a lot.
  2. A picture speaks for itself.... 5 loops and up to 5.2 G in 86x38 meters....
  3. Was unsure were to post these lobbycards from the movie Rollercoaster but hope it's okay to post this classic images here.
  4. Only the Double-Loop is here. Oly was in Bremen till two weeks ago.
  5. ^^ The larger rides here are also moved over longer distances by train. The country size is of course a valid point - even from Hamburg to Munich you can go by train/truck during one night.
  6. Many Schwarzkopf coasters were designed to be portable as they were first ordered by showmen like Barth or Bruch: Looping Star, Silverarrow, Double-Loop, Triple-Loop, Thriller, Oympia, Katapult. Not to mention all the older portable models like Wildcat and Jet Star. Don't really know why US portable rides are mostly small - if it wouldn't be profitable German showmen won't haul all the big rides.
  7. Did it again... What kind of amusement one might get inside this establishment??? Don't know what you guessed but here the answer: Karts! This year we also had a standard Afterburner This is found on top of a small shack selling fresh made Crepes Big Dancer No.2 was also here this year Foggy mouse This ends my 2012 coaster season - with 2013 starting early with Orlando in January!
  8. Somehow hit the wrong button - instead of posting another picture I posted the message.... After some years a HUSS Flipper was here again there can't be enough bumper cars on German carnivals And every few meters the cause and solution for all problems is calling: BEER
  9. It was a foggy day to visit the city but the gloomy atmosphere made the carnivals lights stand out even more. foggy day at the harbour - after a quick bite and drink at the local brewery it's only one subway station to St. Pauli and here we are... Once a year I have to do the 1952 Siemens Rotor! From the elevated Rotor platform the view over the Schwarzkopf Tilt-A-Whirl and 55 meter ferris wheel "poeple sticking like flies to the wall" - the Rotor was one of the first new rides built after WWII we kidnapped this guy from Munich! Frisbee by showmen Robrahn is a frequent visitor Bumper Cars - as they should be without seatbelts, lapbars, etc happy riders getting shaked Loops in the fog Frisbee in the fog Why am I mostly the only rider with the arms high in air going through the loops? Inverting Afterburner by Technical Park is up next! Sky Rocker runs on a great manual program offering great upside-down hangtime
  10. Last coaster of 2012: Teststrecke - Schwarzkopf Double-Loop on the carnival
  11. You really put lapbars on bumper-cars? A Star Flyer at such location is an automatic win!
  12. Love the weird affection you have with German or German-sounding words - as the word "Verbolten" is pure fanatasy - just the same we in Germany have it with Enlish-sounding words like we call the cell-phone "Handy"...
  13. My father and mother lately talked what a huge crowd gathered when in 1978 the Looping Star visited for the first time in Hamburg. Next to the crowds gaping at the "adventurers" the local media made a huge bustle with "Testpilot takes first ride on Looping Star", "We've interviewed the survivors!" and doctor's would explain how a person can survive a ride. On a sad note most iconic coaster in Germany were portable and are now mostly long gone - so there're only tales and photographs left to remember.
  14. I personally rate Twister even over Balder as the layout is more twisty and offers good airtime - while Balder falls behind for example Colossos as far as Intamin pre-fabs go. And of course you've Jetline - the amazing big brother of Alpina-Bahn!
  15. No! Those are S&M Nazis - note the salute! Can one at least play Indiana Jones and hit them?
  16. I'm mostly not so much interested in xmas events at parks as in winter months in northern areas most coasters are down. If you're lucky an old Schwarzkopf looper is there that also runs at or near freezing temperatures as it was based on portable technology - the double-loop Testrecke ran with snowfall and minus 5 degrees Centigrade two years ago at a winter market in Berlin. IMO it's kinda sad that most manufacturers today can't built coasters that also work on a clear winter day.
  17. Pleasant: Vekoma Invertigo at Sommerland Syd at the time - way better than the dreaded SLCs. Unpleasant: Revolution at SFMM due to the horrible OTSRs - Six Flags should look at Hersheypark and then place an order at Gerstlauer.
  18. Tornado is my fav inverted coaster - clearly better than the SLCs and offering more fun and force than the B&Ms. Also thanks for the Disney photo - will be in there soon....
  19. It also depends on the audience targeted by a park. Six Flags is mostly about coasters in all sizes while other parks have their coasters but also invest into family rides or flats. I for one love going over the Atlantic to ride all the huge coasters located in the US - but as I also love flats I've to say that the bigger German carnivals have a way better flat collection than most US parks. Maybe due to the fact that most major flat manufacturers (Huss, KMG, Mondial, Technical Park,...) today are located in Europe. Next to that I also like to visit THEME parks like Disney, Efteling, Europa-Park or Phantasialand were you'll find various rides and mostly moderate thrills but their focus is on atmosphere, theming, acceptable food offering a great overall experience which most Six Flags or Cedar Point parks totally lack.
  20. I hope that this smaller version will hit German carnivals next year! The new S&S restraints looks like inspired by the Mack Megacoaster restraint...
  21. I for one prefer the Intamin launchers with inversions like Kanonen. In Heide-Park I mostly stay between Colossos and HUSS-Land - the latter today with the addition of a classic Klaus Round-Up.
  22. Thanks for the info!
  23. Is it normal that in mid-november there is no information about opening hours in Jan/Feb for the Orlando (SeaWorld, Universal, Busch Gardens Tampa) parks? The only exception so far is Disney...
  24. Clever addition Europa is doing with Arthur and the Minimoys as everything Luc Besson is huge in France which accidently is just next door over the Rhine...
  25. 1) Thriller - in it's original carnival layout, later ruined in the US then deported to Mexico 2) Olympia Looping - carnival 3) Dreier-Looping - carnival, today in Mexico-City 4) X2 - SFMM 5) Blue Fire - Europa-Park 6) Montezooma's Revenge - Knotts 7) Fluch von Novgorod - Hansa-Park 8) Katapult - carnival, no operational installation remaining today 9) Tornado - Särkeniemmi 10) Ukko - Linnanmaki As you can guess I've a preference for forceful steel inversion loopers. Even if I do Megas, Hpyers and Woodies if they're in the area I'd prefer a powerful Schwarzkopf looper to these day or night.
