Carowinds Discussion Thread

^ THIS!! Such an accurate statement. Being from NYC, I didn't understand why the park wasn't an all year round park but after living here for some years now the weather is just so all over the place. from November to May. Hell preview night for Fury325 its opening year was 38F with rain/freezing rain in the forecast then opening day it was like cold in the morning then warmed up to about 55F to 60F. I understand completely now why they just stay closed JAN-MAR. February and some times early March is typically the snow/ice month. Charlotte cant hand such as they are not equipped for the weather. the WHOLE city shuts down at the threat of ice. -
I too arrived around 5pm a day trip from Charlotte and was also astonished at how packed the park was. Almost turned around lol. I was told it was not only the first day of FrightFest which I knew about with the blood drive with free admission and also it was bring a friend for free Day. It was a bit much to say the least but I made thru ok lol. Now I know SFOG has an issue with wild teens but for Justice League a brand new ride only 5 months old to look like it's been in the park for 10yrs is crazy. This is in the que line.

Yes Scarowinds starts this weekends so the park closes at 5pm for 2hrs and reopens for the Halloween event at 7pm to 12am to enjy night rides and the added haunted mazes and scare zones. They are to separate gated prices unless you have a season pass of course. -

A glimpse into the new maze replacing the old Defects maze for Scarowinds. [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] -
^^^ This s why I appreciate my homepark Carowinds. They will not close for rain, not even a thunderstorm. Fury325, Intimidator, Afterburn, Drop Zone and Windseeker yes if lightning is present other than that the park stays open. Nothing like watercstinging you face going 95mph on Fury325. Luckily there some great shows to enjoy and few flats under a rooftop. I think the park realizes it's patrons and season pass holders don't care about rain. RIDE ON!!

I love these flat rides. So happy SixFlags is installing them in their parks. I hope Over Georgia gets one as well in the future. Great job SFMM. The new area looks to be a breath of fresh air. Question. Looking at one of the photos, could it be that this giant discovery is of normal size and that the added height is because it looks to be situated at a higher elevation than the actual midway? The entrance to the ride starts off with stairs and what looks to be ramps to walk up to the station.

What is this Vortex plaza everyone speaks of? The section is called Carolina Showplace. Vortex never had a plaza. Afterburn was the first coaster to actually have a plaza in the park if I'm not mistaken. It's still not far fetched it could happen this year. You never know or it may never happen. -

Let's see if my sources are accurate. They should be at least 4 new rides for planet snoopy coming in 2018. Pretty much a similar expansion KD received for this year. -

To chime in and give my advice. If you have 3hrs in the park particularly the last three hours the park is open, it's pretty easy to hit everything in the park with multiple rides on the top three coasters during the week. Saturday's are different. Always I mean always jump in nighthawks line last by 9:58pm it's almost always a walk on by then. Lines dont close until 10pm or what ever time the park closes so hit everything and jet to nighthawk last minute. -
I totally agree. I was there this past Sunday and I was perturbed at the fact you have two front gate coasters that appearance wise they look sketchy and neglected. Maybe I'm a little biased because my home park is a cedar fair park and I frequent cedar fair parks or any other park for that matter than SixFlags parks. I think coaster should be repainted every 8-12yrs with touch ups in between full on paint jobs. The landscape at SFOG and the whole setting of the park is the best in the chain IMO. They definitely need to work on operations. Mibdbender had one train operation. On a weekend? Really? Super man was a two hour wait with two trains. I'm not understanding the fact the SixFlags chain have the most rides with duel stations and never use them and why are we manually unlocking trains on a modern b&m flyer.? I may get murdeted for this but I think SFOG can take a year off and work on more infrastructure and freshen uo the rides. As for operations, you would think employees enjoy their job but they have no sense of urgency. I did when I worked at Carowinds for 4yrs in my younger days. We were pumping trains out on top gun with no problem.

Robb & Elissa in the USA - 2017!
pproteinc replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
They'll most likely be changed during the off season unlike Diamondback at Kings Island which looks way worse than this for the past 4yrs. -
I think I'm the only one who went deaf during the vid of coaster addict when they PR said shills are back in session on July 31st. Umm why? It's still summer. Most go back mid August or after Labor Day. When did they get out for summer? April? Sheesh. I'd be pissed if I was a kid going back to school in July. Is the whole county all year round schooling or something?

Speaking on my home park Carowinds, after the GCI reprofiling of Hurler, yes, the reins were removed providing the out of control ride it was to be when it first open but the heavy PTC trains still showed triumphant over the track in causing much stress to the wood so they added them back. I personally think with the reprofikr they should've swapped for the millinium flyers. As for the gliders as you know they were originally at KI and are the old version compared to the new manufacturer who makes them now to not be able to snap. -

Just to throw it out there. I think most don't know that Fury's current crew was the original crew from Intimidator when Intimidator first came on the scene and was rocking out operations. #FUNFACT I was at the park recently and there's a lot of survey markers in planet snoopy. I'm hearing "allegedly" they are going to be some ride relocations or rearranging going on over there. Possibly to fit in the breakdance that Carowinds supposedly got and not break the current foot print of Planet Snoopy maybe? One ride looks to be already getting dismantled and rumor has the merry-go-round is being relocated as well. I've been putting my dollar on a planet snoopy expansion for 2018 as that is the only area that hasn't been touched or expanded as of yet. Again this just rumors. The ride in question could just be getting late maintenance done? Take with a grain of salt. -
Yes this where the line starts and this is how close Wonder Women swings near you. The breeze is wonderful. The ride swings right of the ride's signage. Obviously the clearance is ok it like a headchopper while standing in line. And maybe a 6 feet into the line from the ride entrance this is how close she gets to you.

Walking up to the front gate. They picked the perfect spot for Wonder Woman. It will be my first ride of the day. What I'm seeing first glance while standing in line is that this Discovery only rotates in one direction vs rotating clockwise and counterclockwise like its other brothers and sisters already in operation.
