B&M Lift Catwalks
SFGAm Shock Wave replied to Eric_Smith's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ The chain return is on top of the spine. As for how they get the chain in, I have no idea. SFGAm BTR: http://www.rcdb.com/ig5.htm?picture=8 SFMM Tatsu: http://www.rcdb.com/ig3305.htm?picture=58 -
B&M Lift Catwalks
SFGAm Shock Wave replied to Eric_Smith's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Most of the B&Ms with two sets of stairs only have one side that goes all the way to the ground though, so that second set of stairs is usually only used by Maintenance. For example, Raging Bull at SFGAm has stairs on both sides, but only the right side starts at ground level. The left side starts at the base of the lift, which is already a good 25-30ft off the ground. Same thing with Nitro at SFGAdv, only the right side stairs go all the way to the ground. http://www.rcdb.com/ig1106.htm?picture=2 -
^ Yay misguided anger. It is not Cedar Fair's fault CGA isnt getting an awesome coaster. If Cedar Fair had it their way, there would be an awesome GCI wooden coaster going up right now. The people that screwed this up are Prudential (who owns that office building) and the Santa Clara board. I am absolutely sick of people or companies that buy property next to an amusement park (or airport, or anything for that matter) and then complain about the noise. If you didn't want to hear people screaming on a roller coaster, why buy the property. CGA was there first, so Prudential really needs to just STFU.

As far as hypothetical defunct rides returning are concerned, I've been wondering, does anyone know ended up happening to Triple Play after Paramount removed it? If the park still owns the ride, it would take very little effort to reinstall it since the entire former ride area is still completely intact.

^ True, but also bear in mind that the Goliath death was due to a pre-existing condition, the Scream! death was due to a stupid employee being somewhere they should not have been. The fact that multiple people have been ejected from different Intamin rides with T-Bars should be a hint to Intamin that they need to either completely redesign the T-Bar, or come up with a system to prevent the ride from dispatching if the bar is not in a safe position (and make sure all installations are modified). Also of note, no one has ever been killed on a B&M as a result of mechanical failure or restraint failure, only pre-existing conditions or going into danger zones.

Last week I finally got a new computer (with Vista) after having my old one (with XP) for 6 years. I reinstalled RCT2 and downloaded 8 Cars 132. 8 cars 132 never worked for me, and no suprise, didnt work this time either. So then I went searching and tried 8 cars v120, v1302, and now 131 (with v131 being the version that worked perfectly on my old computer). 8 cars v120 was too old and didn't have all the functions. 8 cars 1302 and 131 are now both giving me the same problem. All the basic stuff (mow grass, happy guests, etc.) works and zero/restore clearances work. However, when I use the rides menu to raise/lower ride for track merging and transfer tracks, I get the "8 Cars has stopped working and needs to close". I pretty much rely on the rides menu for all the RCT parks I have, so until I can get that to work, I pretty much can't do RCT at all.

Park Pet Peeves
SFGAm Shock Wave replied to MSLSM's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
People waiting for a certain row on a coaster and blocking every other row. Last Sunday at Raging Bull (SFGAm), the front row queue was full and going out of the station. The back row line went all along the back wall of the station then out of the station. Rows 2-8 were completely empty. Basket Balls. If the parks must have them as prizes, they should be issued deflated. People who complain that their kid who is 1/3584665747 of an inch too short should be able to ride. People in the station when the above occurs that chant "Let him ride" People who reride when there is a 2 hour line. People who deface park property. No one cares that Mr X was in line for Shock Wave on 8/23/97 People who step on seats to get in/out of the train (usually on Arrow Loopers and Whizzer type trains) The seat is not a step. That is how padding gets damaged. -

^ While I don't really understand the logic either, that was also one of the reasons SFGAm gave for not running American Eagle backwards anymore. My guess would be that its not so much the weight as it is the dynamics of a backwards train. Also, the undersides of the cars might difer from front to back. That said, whether its a legitimate reason or not, CF isn't the first to use that excuse. -

Batman at SFGAm has those as well now. They do seem to help a little, but the problem is still far from eliminated. -

^ It isn't a safety issue. It is a guest clothing stain issue. It's the same thing at SFGAm. Batman doesnt run in rain because it drips rust on peoples clothes. Not sure if theres any real way to fix it. Painting the rides won't stop it. I know that from experience. My Raging Bull shirt got ruined on Batman in 2004, right after it had been repainted. -

^^ Still, it seems the ride should be designed so that it can stack safely. I blame Arrow -

I still don't believe rain was the only factor in this collision. For the train to slip all the way through the brakes is extreme. That said, I know at SFGAm, the rule is no ride runs 3 trains in any rain. Other than that, everything stays open until its moderate rain (with the exception of Ragin' Cajun and Whizzer which are unusually sensitive to wet conditions). -

Yes, Demon has always had 3 trains, even back in the Turn of the Century days. Paramount for some reason stopped using the 3rd train. SFGAm, however, still runs all 3 trains pretty often during the summer (and Fright Fest if they have enough employees). -
At SFGAm, they turned one of the Sky Ride stations into a Funnel Cake place. The queue is also there. We also have TrailBlazer's remains in Southwest Territory. That's all I can think of right now, but I'm sure be plenty of remains in County Fair this year with the departure of Splashwater Falls and Deja Vu.

If you owned your home park (s)...
SFGAm Shock Wave replied to Tanks4me05's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
SFGAm (but the first one goes for any park, anywhere): -Inflated basketballs are banned from the park. Basketballs given out as prizes are deflated -Paint American Eagle (when they painted it in 06, they never did the supports), Whizzer, and Iron Wolf -Move Sky Trek Tower's entrance back into its original location and expand Hurricane Harbor in place of Space Shuttle America -Add a Giant Wheel, no park is complete without a Ferris Wheel (Bedrock Boulder Roller doesn't count ) -Add new coaster in place of Deja Vu and/or Splashwater Falls. Don't really care if it ends up being a Dive Machine, but we havent gotten anything bigger than a mouse since 2003 -Expand the locker policy to all coasters, but work on the price-either free for an amount of time or have a much lower price ($1.00 everytime adds up quick) -Redo the old part of American Eagle's line. The part between the bridge and the station is a chaotic mess. People aren't smart enough to figure out which lane is the actual line, and it creates line jumper paradise -With the loss of Theatre Royale, either rehabilate Wilderness Theater or build a new theater -

That is a car from Shock Wave (RIP) at SFGAm. Quite painful for me to see it in that condition
