Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
Intimidator305 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm still very curious how they're going to connect Thunderbird to the Thanksgiving area especially with Hyena Falls' uncomfortable placement in between the two. I'm sure it'll make since later down the road once they repurpose Pilgrim's Plunge/Giraffica and add more attractions. Since Hyena Falls' placement in 2013 I haven't been a fan of it at all, but believe the master plan has everything making sense eventually. I am a fan of Sparkler's relocation and re-theme. Right now it's just as bad as Intimidator 305 being next to an alien/UFO coaster in the Congo area of Kings Dominion. I have faith in HolidayWorld that they'll stick to their word and surprise us of how it'll all make sense later on though. -

They better make this Dive Coaster red in Dick Kinzel's honor. Might as well name it DiveHawk 223 too. -

I couldn't agree more. It really does make you wonder if a Busch Gardens/B&M contract actually existed because the Dive Coasters are in my opinion their best and most innovative design... with not much of a price tag compared to other B&M's. I'm not much of a B&M guy, but I do love Griffon and Sheikra as they're my favorite B&M's and in my top 10 coasters. If there is any doubt that CP doesn't have the best coaster line-up in the country, a Dive Machine would push them over the edge in my opinion. -

The radius of that final turn is massive (and after a trim) so the ending to this ride should be equally as boring as Intimidator's just a couple hundred feet away. The rest of the ride should be filled with lots of speed though so at least this ride will gradually coast into the brakes rather than randomly hit a brake run with lots of momentum....Leviathan.... I'm still thankful this ride is just a little over 2.5 hours from me. -
Seatbelt Survey

Done. Although I feel the need for seat belts are pointless, if I ride has to have them I prefer specialized Intamin seat belts. -

For the people saying that Rougarou will be too similar to a dive machine because they're both floorless remember we are dealing with the same company who spent 50 million at Canada's Wonderland and 50 million at Carowinds building 2 of the same rides. A dive machine would be much different from Rougarou compared to the hyper/giga additions at Wonderland and Carowinds. I think it's a good fit for CP. 2016 should also be the year for KD's next big one too. -
First of all, thanks for the update as always Chuck. I love how BGW takes the worst looking area of the park and makes it the best looking Christmas area of the park during ChristmasTown. I'm talking about Holiday Hills of course. Also, I'm not so sure how I feel about the hanging garland around England's clock during the day (looks cheap), but at night I like the use of white lights on the clock and in the area much more than the colored lights.

I went to the park Friday night (7-midnight) and Saturday morning (10-1) for my final trip of the season. We left at 1 knowing the park was going to be near capacity on Saturday. Overall thoughts on Haunt 2014: -Love the return of Maze of Madness, it was actually everyone's favorite maze of the night -Cleaver Brothers Carnival was loaded with scare-actors, best zone of the night -Longest maze wait was 10 mins, and that was for Club Blood -Weren't any bad mazes for the first time ever, even Bloodbath had a few scares -I really miss having a maze in WWC. Please bring one back, that area of the park seems so sad w/o one -Five seasons down, and Intimidator 305 is still glass smooth <3 Reached 110 rides this season From best to worst of the night I'd rank: Mazes- 1) Maze of Madness (love to see how they improve it next year) 2) Zombie High (much better than last year) 3) SlaughterHouse 4) CornStalkers 5) Club Blood 6) Doll Factory 7) No Vacancy (weaker this year, but still good) 8) Outbreak 9) Blue Ridge Bloodbath Zones- 1) Cleaver Brothers Carnival 2) The Lair (big surprise) 3) Feary Tales 4) IronWorX (love the new details) 5) Necropolis 6) The Ruins (very small this season) -

Thanks for the update, Chuck! I'll finally be getting to the park for Halloween Haunt next Friday and Saturday to wrap up the season. I've heard mixed reviews for the return of Maze of Madness so I'm looking forward to checking it out for myself. I was always a big fan of The Asylum when others weren't. -
Amusement Today Golden Ticket Awards 2014
Intimidator305 replied to A.J.'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This takes the cake for being the biggest joke year of the awards. I swear they get worse every year... The only thing I like is Thunderhead down at Dollywood getting some love that it deserves. Can anyone honestly look me in the eye and say InTRIMidator at Carowinds is a top 10 ride in the world? Hell, if that's a top 10 to these awards, then Fury 325 will be top 3 next year by this bias for sure. -

Not very jealous - I'd rather KD spend 30 million on a unique ride that can't be found on the other side of the park. In all seriousness though, I live 3 hours away from each park and even with the addition of Fury 325, I'll probably still visit KD nearly 8 or so times next season with probably 2 trips down to Carowinds. Ever since the Intimidator additions, Kings Dominion has gotten many more investments in general sprucing up the park, renovating every section of the park (after next season with WaterWorks), not to mention getting a whole new children's area. Carowinds definitely deserved a coaster before KD. 2016 will be the next big year for KD, I've been saying that since 2010. It's only fair that KD has to wait an extra season since they got arguably one of the best coasters in the world (plus it's a giga) and all the others got your general cookie cutter hyper. -

Been to the park this summer? It isn't perfect, but it's a hell of a lot better than it was. Anyways, I do think 2016 will be the 'big year' for Kings Dominion. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Call me crazy, but I was thinking the same thing. Having new sit-down trains, a new theme/name, a new color scheme AND having the second half indoors with special effects would be very marketable. Definitely a heck of a lot better than some of the coasters parks are putting in nowadays... Totally could be done in my opinion, but I still don't think it will. Everything after the MCBR could easily be put indoors and is low to the ground so a high ugly building wouldn't be necessary. Plus, the second half is in an area of the park that is hardly visible, so the building wouldn't have to be beautiful. But we all know CP doesn't mind ugly buildings anyways *cough*Disaster Transport*cough*. See below: I'd take this over a Wonder Mountain's Guardian ride any day. Before you jump on me, I don't think this is happening, just throwing out some wild thoughts. -

Haunt XIV construction update & some goodies I was at the park on Wednesday for my final trip of the summer before Haunt season arrives and took some shots of the new Maze of Madness in Dodgem and SlaughterHouse and thought I'd share. I also snapped some other shots and picked a few. Enjoy! Also, I was shocked with the crowd at the park. It was a nice day and I guess everyone was getting their back to school trips in. I did manage to hit all the big rides with multiple rides on Intimidator 305 of course and Windseeker. Maze of Madness Construction Maze of Madness Construction Maze of Madness front facade SlaughterHouse front facade Obligatory KD shot - so much prettier than KI's International Street Mandatory 305 shot - nice try Fury 325, but you won't even compare Feeling artsy with Americana - I love all the new landscaping this season, thanks Matt Ouimet SlaughterHouse front facade -
Carowinds Discussion Thread

Living in Roanoke, Virginia I'm exactly in the middle of Carowinds and Kings Dominion - each being 3 hours away. However, due to each park's lineup I visit KD about 8 times a season and Carowinds once about every other year. This will bring me down to Charlotte more if it delivers. How many people can say that they have 2 giga coasters 3 hours away from them? I think the awesomeness of the entrance plaza to the park is being overlooked. It looks like it'll be even better than Cedar Point's nice new one. However, it does not look like any heritage and Carowinds past will survive in it's construction. Also, the ride's actual entry plaza seems lackluster in the videos so I hope we have surprises left. It is nestled behind Juke Box Diner and yes, has a cool Leviathan/Gatekeeper/Banshee like sign, but other than that it doesn't really look as up to par as Banshee and Gatekeeper's plazas. I'm sure there's some details they're hiding like with the Intimidator additions. -

Going with KD's current trend, with the addition will also bring a refresh of the whole area including new paint on slides, signage, ect. Now that the park has improved every area of the dry park, WaterWorks is definitely next on the list and next year is the time to do it. I also love the placement of this complex as it will bring a better flow to the water park. I'm interested to find out where Splash Island will go, but that will be the perfect fit for the replacement of Snoopy's Splash Dance in Planet Snoopy. The only disappointment I have is I was hoping for a rename of the water park to "Hurricane Reef" (it's original name) as a part of the second part of the 40th Celebration. I'm sure we'll see plenty more bringing back the past next year as well as general park improvements while getting that budget ready for the next large investment. Bring on the 2016 roller coaster. I've attached a photo of the slide complex. -

^ On top of many complaints on their Facebook page saying they'd never return to the park again, it made local news all across the region. www.wsls.com/story/23797028/miners-union-va-theme-park-attraction-an-insult Americans are more sensitive than Canadians. This maze made a long-run at Wonderland.
