The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread
SoCalCoasters replied to Wes's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've been thinking a lot about Legoland and it's future lately. There's been that suspended coaster tumor flying around for a few years now, but instead of building another Vekoma Jr. Suspended, I think Legoland should build an S&S Free Fly. With some impressive marketing, and a layout that appeals to not only kids but also adults, I think it could be a huge hit for Legoland. The unique design of it, along with some promotion of it being "first in the US" or "Only one in the US" would really attract people. And seeing as their layouts aren't large footprint wise or height wise, I really think they could get one to work, especially if they themed the cars to Airplanes and re-used the Flight School name. -
For some reason I can see him showing up as the Truck Driver you almost run into. That's one of the very few times you see people in the ride besides the main characters. I'm interested in seeing whether or not they'll changes the pre show around too, doesn't sound like it, but it'll be a liittle wired going from cartoony animation to ZOMFG Xtreme HD.

The Rumor / Crazy Idea Superthread

To pull the train of thought away from SFMM station for a moment... Does that supposed agreement that Busch had with B&M about building Dive Machines in the US include the smaller models like G5, Oblivion, and more recently Krake? I would really like a few more of these stateside, as they are fantastic rides. -
And those ones aren't even refurbished yet. Chuck has a furniture upholsterer who is going to help with the seats and Chuck is a whiz with the painting. He isn't known as the "Dark Ride Artist" for nothing. The upholsterer is an old-timer who Chuck says will retire after assisting on the cars. He's the Dark Ride Artist? I've been wondering who that was! I've seen his work all over the fair rides! I really like his style!

San Diego Zoo's Wild Safari Park TR
SoCalCoasters replied to SoCalCoasters's topic in Random, Random, Random
More pictures! Sorry these took nearly 6 months to post. The tram went all around "Africa". This giant exhibit is modeled with different parts of Africa. This giraffe was watching the tram as it went by. Beautiful Animals Springbalk? Can't remember exactly. This shows off a large portion of the African exhibit. I really love this park. Asses I think every Rhino I saw was asleep. The wild asses are shy, so they're put in a different exhibit thanb other animals. I just love the atmoshpere of this park! The entire tour takes around 30 minutes to complete, on a two mile loop. n a few years, this area will look more like a forest. Looking out over the valley. I really love the views! Coming back around you take a higher route with better views. Coming Around... These animals were on a hilly section above the tram. Flyby! Giraffes! OM NOM NOM This is the only time I've ever seen a Giraffe sitting down! Nevermind, I found some non-sleepy Rhinos. That;s the end of the Tram Safari. The next area was the African Loop, which is a very long winding path with African animals that takes around 30-45 minutes to walk through at a leasurely pace. Segway Safari. Let's just hope there aren't any cliff nearby This is the feeding Safari. Cheetah Chillin' in the tall grass. The path at the beginning of the loop. Looks like someone had one too many drinks. This section is out on a lake, with a man made island in the center. Another view of the prop car. Those were the flamingos from earlier. There were a gazillion ducks sleeping right here... Bright Sun is Bright Mother duck and her chicks. I'm pretty sure there are more ducks here than there are all other animals combined! This area is very nicely done. What's this? ON NOM NOM I randomly got this realy interesting shot. Where else can you get awesome landscaping like this in a ZOO! Going down? This area of the park was beautiful. This area was very photogenic. Don't touch my eggs. More animals. It took me like ten shots to get this, the bird wouldn't sit still. Vulture The head looks so disproportional... -
A variety of reasons brought The Thriller-Texas Tornado-Zonga to its knees before it was even installed in the park. When the original version of the ride, Thiller, was retired from the German Fair circut, it was purchased by SF (Who I believe were still premier parks at the time) and installed at Six Flags Astro World. The hot Texas sun completely did a number on the ride's electronics, and tire driven lift hill, causing the ride's reliability to be lower than the wind speed needed to stall Windjammer in its loop. After a few unsuccessful years, the ride was removed. Before being installed at Marine World, SF hired Premier rides to modify part of the ride to "reduce G forces" and also got new bulkier shoulder restraint trains that murdered your head through the layout. These supposedly helpful modifications only increased the negative aspects of the ride. When it was installed, all the damage done to it in Texas carried over and caused the ride numerous technical problems and severe amounts of downtime. And thus, the reason it was removed. Closed as much, or more than it operated, and had an unpopular reputation with many park guests.

Seriously, does anyone here realize how complex apps are and how much effort you have to put in to create one? You're talking about creating an IOS game that will have to run with relatively low processing power, that has the capabilities of RCT franchise without it crashing more than Infinity Blade? And you are also marketing it to an audience that will most likely not pay for an app that is more than $6-$7, and you'll have to constantly update and fix bugs and glitches that come up. Not to mention you have to use Apple's development software which is only available on a Mac. You would have to code every single thing into the game, unless you used a pre-existing engine liscened from another company. Even then, the development of an app is extremely long and very time consuming. Unless you are an app designer for a company or have considerable experience in the creation of these programs, t's not going to happen.

Mass ride removal trends
SoCalCoasters replied to megametal's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
HUSS as a company basically threw themselves away when they moved to a new production facility. They basically stopped keeping spare parts in exceess, so everytime a ride piece needs replacing, they have to build to order. Several of their Giant Frisbees were down for months on end because they needed a replacement motor, and constant problems and issues have come up with the Topple Towers (with Dollywood even suing HUSS over theirs). HUSS rides are fun, but for the parks, they are a total nightmare. -

Um... When you talk about pumping and jerks, take a trip to coaster hell and ride Psyclone, or go to Japan and ride White Cyclone, THEN come back and tell me that this ride is too jerky rough and bumpy. Sure it's not the smoothest coaster, wooden coasters commonly have the G almost no banking turns. There were 4 major dueling sections, that's more than Dueling Dragons and Lightning Racer. FOR GOD'S SAKE IT'S A WOODEN COASTER! Seriously... The ride looked very cool and very fun, not to mention a neat concept that I wish more wooden coasters would have (High 5). SoCal-I'd ride this over White Cyclone any day-Coasters. -
Sorry, but I have to call you out here. Six Flags Discovery Kingdom has a HUGE portfolio of attractions. Yes, it may not have the biggest and bestest coaster collection, but the park has SO much more to offer than you give it credit for. It really is three experiences in one, Marine Life Park, Zoo, and Amusement Park. If you go into the park focused on just the coasters, you're not going to get even close to the true experience of the park. Really for me, SFDK really is a very good triple header: three very different experiences put together in a single park. The park appeals to a very wide range of people, moreso than a normal SF park. And frankly, I think the animal exhibits are better than 90% of the rides. Skipping over them is a crime, especially when you consider SFDK started with just the animals.

If you notice, most park splash boats have theming in the splashdown area rather than on the lift, Monsoon Falls and the chute the shoot at CGA have no theming on the lift, but theming in the splashdown. Plus the ride is going to be integrated into an area of the park that is already very well themed, so I'm sure it'll turn out fine. I have yet to see a Lego attraction that didn't have a decent amount of theming. I was surprised to see the manufacturer name, OD Hopkins. I know they stopped making coasters in the late 90's, but they still make theme park rides? -

^^ That little upward steep climb right before the MCBR looks uncomfortable, I'd advise redesigning it to be more flowing. -

Nice to see that long-running rumor come true! Too bad the star wars area won't have a ride, I think the new Gerstlauer SkyFly would be great for a Star Wars attraction. -

Do you seriously have to be THAT rude about it? What do you expect from the Holidays? DId you happen to read the last line of Robb's post? Annoying trolls will be annoying trolls. -
Serves them right for shooting illegal POVs everywhere they go. I think COASTERFORCE's videos are taken with permission. Notice they don't put their cameras down when the On-Ride photo comes up and they take the POV videos in the stations, unlike the other illegal videos. This tweet from KINGS DOMINION pretty much says it all: Www.twitter.com/#!/KingsDominionVA/status/52438499877584896 For those too lazy to click the Link, it's King's Dominion telling CoasterForce not take take illegal POVs or they'll be ejected from the park.

Only complaint I have about the Pirate Ship is that the queue tile matches the main path tile. I'd give the queue line a different texture,or seperate it from the main path a bit more. -
