  1. While I'm not sure, based on how the train has been sitting in the station with the restraints open and waiting for riders, I'm pretty sure SFMW could just power up, cycle it a couple times and open it. If they were planning on keeping it closed all year, I wish they had taken the train off the track. It just sits there waiting for something to happen.
  2. Looks like someone came up with a way to make DDR a little more entertaining. Could be be the hit at the next Burning Man. Click here for the hot details!
  3. I just received my Passholder newsletter yesterday and along with a note about them extending the season through the first weekend in November and VIP pass renewal prices, they have a small note saying "Just Announced: New Thrill Ride coming in 2006. Be here on opening day to ride!" (or something similar...its at home and I'm at work) Base on the phrasing, I don't think we are getting a coaster (boo!) or another kids/family ride (yeah!). But I guess it could be either an actual ride, or a waterslide. There was no mention of an announcement date, so I guess its still a waiting game.
  4. My friend who played it at the Tokyo Game Show says it controls horribly, but the music is better than Katamari 2. His review is in the bottom of the second news item from Sept. 18 on Insert Credit.
  5. True. I think I've only had one truely terrible ride on ME, (the rest were just mediocre) but with the price, its not even worth trying again. As for the restraints on Superman, I still don't see the need for the OSTRs but I can see why Intamin and/or the park would include them in the design. With the number of larger riders their lap bar only rides have lost, its better to just cover your arse and put the more restrictive restraints in. Does anyone know who made the final decision to put OSTRs on CA Screamin'? I know that when it was announced, they made a big deal about it being only lapbars (and the speed through the loop says they designed it that way). Was it a WDI/Disney Lawyer or an Intamin decision?
  6. ^ You obviously haven't been on a Togo. Manhatten Express has the push down OSTRs and it provides enough headbanging to make Flashback hang its head in shame.
  7. Sounds totally messed up in all the right ways. Well except for the line it will have...
  8. Its kinda creepy having someone else posting from Reno. I'm not used to seeing topics about 395. Speaking of people with signs asking for money, my dad and I were walking under the freeway at 80 and W. McCarren and there was a pile of like 8 different cardboard signs sitting there waiting for whoever to come back and use them.
  9. If they ever build it, I will be 5 minutes from the new baseball stadium in Sparks.
  10. The only problem with the Ghost Blasters is its $4 per ride and the POP doesn't work on it. Thats why I didn't ride it when I was there. I had spent all my money on the POP wristband assuming I could ride it only to find out I had to fork over more money.
  11. Send them to SFMW!!! They already have 2 that don't work.
  12. From what I understand, Astroworld has been having problems recently with the Astrodome and replacement stadium and the shared parking situation. Its not a complete suprise that Six Flags would finally give in and throw in the towel. Considering the lack of serious investment, I doubt the park was running at a loss. But if they were unable to work out a deal for parking that still keeps the park in the black, they would have no choice but to close. And knowing 6 Flags, they are counting the number of free rides they can add to parks in 2007. I want SFMM or SFMW to get Ultra Twister, SWAT, Diablo Falls, and the Intamin Giant Drop. I don't know if Astroworld had and good flats, but maybe SFMM would put one in if they didn't have to pay for it. Of course the rides would be better spent if sent to one of the smaller, non-flaged parks that SF Corp seems to have forgotten about. Oh... 1 more question. Is Greased Lightning the Fly-Wheel or Weight Drop Shuttle coaster. Not that 6 Flags will be in any hurry to rebuild it since they still have the one at SFMW.
  13. Its not so much sewage water as storm runnoff. But if it hasn't rained recently, it could still be pretty nasty.
  14. The official press release on six flags site mentions the loss of 115 permanent jobs and then says that the 1500 seasonal jobs won't be affected. I guess it makes a little sense because the people employed there this year will be able to finish out their season, but its still a loss of 1500 seasonal jobs in future years. How are the Intamin Giant Drops assembled? Is it possible to actually take them apart by just removing bolts, or does the entire ride have to be unwelded?
  15. ^^Its so easy to say that when you are in South Carolina. No offense there, just thought it was funny. Actually, I have to agree with you. Right now, Boomerang Bay needs another slide tower or something. Its got some good slides on the first tower, but the tower they added this year was a weak addition. The main focus was always on the wave pool and the lazy river. I think they should do another big tower with a master blaster or zip coaster, and some other awesome slides. And then put in a custom Super Saturator that winds between the towers, log ride, and lazy river.
  16. I loved Tibidabo when I went. I actually spent too much time there and missed the last train to Port Aventura that day. Whoops. I had originally gone for the V shaped dueling coaster I had seen, but it had been removed (the year before I went I think) I didn't ride the observation platform thing because of the heights, but I did ride the suspended monoral. From what I remember, the Suspended monoral/dark ride, observation platform, and big airplane ride (which is powered by its own propeller) are all insanely old. I picked up a replica poster from something like 1922 for the suspended dark ride. The other thing I loved about the park was the different types of transportation required to get there. Subway (with an insanely deep station), Streetcar from the end of the subway line. And finally, Funicular from the end of the Streetcar line up the mountain to the park.
  17. More importantly, why wasn't I involved??? Its how straight athletes say good job...
  18. I think my first rides on Cyclops at Mount Olympus (still Big Chiefs then) and Tonnierre de Zues at Parc Asterix. I was unprepared for the amount of air you recieve in the back seat. I was a little prepared for Cyclops, but it still scared me. TdZ though was a complete suprise. From the line, the first drop looked kinda rampy and not very impressive. Much to my suprise, I was standing up going down the first drop.
  19. You mean this is what happens when you build your city and park BELOW sea level NEXT to the ocean? It works for the Dutch. And Walabi World is below sea level... you can walk to one of the levees from the parking lot. Only reason I know this is Scouts had the World Jamboree on the land around the park in 1995. The lake Goliath wraps around was behind the stage and huge makeshift ampitheatre they set up. Unfortunately, my scoutmaster was a jerk and wouldn't give me permission to go to the park for a day so I had to sit there watching El Condor run all day long. If they rebuild New Orleans, I think they should bring in a bunch of Dutch engineers to not only rebuild the levees, but to build a barrier system similar to the one they built to reduce the effects of storm surge.
  20. Knowing SFMM and ACE, the ride will have some problem and will not be open that day.
  21. That was officially the highlight of the entire fire coverage that year. I thought it was hilarious when he began crying on live TV and talking about how they take things for granted and he could have died. Then the next day he was out there again.
  22. ^ But its field doesn't move!!! Actually that picture looks cool. I love checking out the architecture of stadiums. I was really impressed with the atmosphere Parc de Princes in Paris gave to the game when I saw PSG play there. The huge concrete shell/roofs over the stands kept most of the sound in the stadium making it much louder. And making the Auxerre fans even cooler for singing the whole time.
  23. After looking at the pics on the World Cup site, I want to see both stadiums, but the Schalke Arena is slightly higher on the list because of the movable field. I saw pics of it in an architecture magazine and I think that it is such a cool idea. (Of course if I don't actually see the field move, then maybe its not such a bid deal)
  24. I hope the construction pics of SFMM's flyer get me as excited as the pics of Black Mamba just did. For just being pics of the lift and a bunch of trenches, I shouldn't be this impressed. So is Phantasialand close to any of the World Cup venues? Not that I would have a choice as to which I get tickets to. I guess I should start paying more attention to the later rounds of tickets so I have a reason to go to Germany next year.
