Worlds of Fun (WOF) Discussion Thread

As much money as they've sunk into Thunderhawk over the last three years they could've damn near bought a launched MACK coaster. At some point the losses have to be cut on that one, nothing but a money pit. Shame that HUSS built some real crap before the bankruptcy as they were known for quality. But the topple towers and these things are just as expensive to keep running as a woodie. -
^^ On a Tuesday in the middle of hotter than hell season, crowds can go either way. However you can safely wait until day of to purchase a flash pass. Unrelated, last night was the Discover Card sponsored ERT event across the chain. Only advertised as available we Titan, NTAG, and Sidewinder. While Sidewinder is down for needed repairs post flood, it was expected a ride to be substituted, which they did, with the entire Mexico section of the park, something they didn't have to do, but was welcomed by all. So kudos to the park.

And the catapult goes bye bye. Although this ride was operated by a vendor, thats still two accidents in as many years. Such a shame for a park that still has so much potential to be really awesome, even if it is in the Dells. Still seems as if it would be cheaper and easier to maintain than just get rid of stuff. But in this case it wasn't theirs so why should they care.

And another one files a lawsuit for discrimination over not being able to ride due to a change in policy requiring two natural legs. Too bad they settled the first one as now it opens the floodgates. The kicker is a Florida park told him a similar story, sorry you must have two natural legs. http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2015/07/08/amputee-sues-six-flags-for-discrimination/

Lakeside has a pretty good Whip -
I kind of didn't like this update at first, but now that I have my version of a Ninja Warrior course setup thanks to the daily prizes I'm 'ok' with it, not my favorite. Too bad I have all the obstacle courses now as the rest of the prizes aren't very appealing, other than the community prizes for free donuts, buildings, and such.

I found the flume to be 'ok' certainly not the best and not one that I would ever rush back to ride. For a family owned park they've dumped a ton of money into it the last few years, more so than it's closest competitor in KC... -
While I can't validate that rumor, I don't believe they've consistently ever used all the cars at SFOT, to me when they upped the number of cars on the rails it became less efficient due to the park patron factor, so if it did come from SFOT, it would make sense. I did something last night I hadn't done in a very long time, rode Yosemite Sam. Why, who knows. But what it did was remind me of how far animatronic technology has come since that ride was re-done and it's a ride that I would like to see receive another overhaul because the ride adds value to the park's collection and is a big hit with kids.

So most of you have seen that I've been really positive towards the park the last six months and deservedly so. But today the park made a decision to do away with the single rider line on JL. I realize they've had issues with groups of people, large groups skipping the line, but that can be overcome if it were policed better, after all they have two 'security' peeps at the ride, but nope it's just easier to eliminate it. It's really sad and not sure how I feel about cars going around with empty seats. The security personal who've I've come to know only by riding, were e completely in shock and felt it was not an appropriate action. Oh well, hope they reopen it, but like skyskreame's single rider line, I'm afraid it might disappear for good. :/ As far as break downs a lot of this could be patron caused as I know they've been extremely rough on the guns and too many fat people cause the cars to wig out, but Sally has one of the best track records in the business and I'm sure the problems will get sorted.

^The price tag includes all theming, ground prep, design, engineering, manufacturing, and installation. In other words, that's the final cost for everything. -
And why would RMC want to sell their patented topper track to GCI? The closest they could get without infringing would be an edge to edge plate over the top layer, which is basically what GG did on Hades, installed a wider top plate (running steel) which still leaves you with a maintenance issue when water finds its way in, sits, and rots out the wood.

If faced with the choice of more surgeries that likely would never restore my leg to even some level of walking normalcy, and starting over with a prosthetic that would allow me to run and or be active at a level much closer to the real thing, I'd choose amputation in a heart beat. Sure I would try, as she and her doctors did, to save my leg, but if the end result was going to be a greatly diminished quality of life, off it goes. Granted, this accident should have never occurred in the first place, but it did, so it has to be dealt with in the most positive light. -
oh look, two new levels this month

I'm sure Schlitterbahn wouldn't mind picking up a few more slides like they've done from Wet-N-Wild in the past. That time frame would give them enough time to ramp down the operation, move what they need to, transfer and re-train the staff. Which leaves the question, what do they do with a semi-prime piece of land. Resort, condos, tourist traps?
