To extrapolate on this, that storm missed MA by an insane margin, most of western Michigan got smoked.

Sort of off topic, but how busy should I expect Universal/IOA to be tomorrow? We are planning to be there for the park opening, and I'd really like to hit The Hulk, some of the Harry Potter stuff, The Simpson's Ride, and anything else I can fit in-Ripsaw, etc. Am I being realistic, or is tomorrow probably going to be a mess? Thanks in advance for any help.

Favorite park memory

Millennium Force with my daughter. She has loved theme parks and coasters since she was three, and was so proud of herself for being tall enough to ride it at age six. Yes, she loved it, and had her hands up going down the first hill. I was terrified. -

They have thai curry sauce that is killer. As a matter of fact, I am eating some right now. It is good, but it tastes more like Indian food than Thai, at least to me. Plus there's no peanut butter in it! -

Rode Raging Bull ten times in a row while alone at SFGAM. I was bored and waiting for a friend, and the wait was less than ten minutes. Rode Mean Streak at eleven in the morning with one of the worst hangovers I've ever had. Never again. -
Be very wary of Springtime in the Park. Here's a review of it I did last year: http://www.thecoastercritic.com/2010/04/hersheypark-springtime-in-the-park-trip-report.html I know that some of the days can be good, Sundays are supposed to be for example, just keep your fingers crossed.

'Sup, fellow 33 year old Grand Rapidian (I won't be 33 for a couple of months, but still)! My solid plans thus far, are Busch Gardens Tampa, Disney World (all parks), Sea World Orlando, and the Universal Orlando parks. Woo! I cannot imagine a summer without Michigan's Adventure, Cedar Point, or SFGAM, so all those are a lock. I just need to plan one more big trip, and I'll be all set. Canada's Wonderland? Virginia?

When BDubs got rid of the Thai sauce part of my soul died. But it's still totally delicious. -
Suprising Soakings
adavis replied to Kingsislandfreak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Already mentioned, but the first mini drop on Journey to Atlantis at Sea World Orlando. I thought I might get wet from the big drop, but was absolutely soaked from a little dip that almost capsized the boat! Buccaneer Battle at SFGAM. Yes it's a water ride, yes I expected to get wet. I did not expect a family of assholes to man all of the water guns and soak me and my then five year old daughter while they cackled laughing. We were on the other side of the boat, and could not shoot back, we had just wanted to shoot targets, and it was barely seventy out. I told the father I was going to :edited: mete out justice after the ride (a low moment, but I was so mad!!) , and he took off before I could get off the boat. It was one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a theme park. -
Having my novel published in March. I cannot wait for the release, and the first review went quite well. I'm also going BGT for the first time ever, and Universal Florida. If time permits, hopefully more midwest coasting trips, and if everything goes really well with the book, maybe some signings along with coasters.

For Robb, Elissa, or really anyone else who has a lot of global coaster experience: How does Cheetah Hunt stack up as far as anticipation? I haven't been a member of the site for very long, but have been a coaster enthusiast for most of my 32 years, and this coaster looks awesome to me. Does this-anticipation wise-equal a daunting project like I-305, or Millennium Force, or is it more akin to a really cool, yet smaller ride like Maverick or Fahrenheit? Is there another coaster, anywhere, that seems similar to this one? I'm sure other Intamin's share traits with this ride, but at least to my eyes, this thing seems quite special. No reason for asking, aside from curiosity. Thanks!

What park should have an Intamin Mega-Lite?

Biggest Disappointment of 2010?
adavis replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
1. Springtime in the Park. So packed. I drove eleven hours each way for one of the worst trips I've ever had, and the rides were totally awesome. It was that bad. 2. Pennsylvania. People there just really seem to hate me. 3. Cedar Point in September. Yes, it was empty. Yes, nearly everything was closed. 4. Another trip to King's Island, another trip with no ride on Vortex. It was still a good year, MA is getting new stuff that my kid will love. -
Best Amusement Industry Highlights of 2010?

1. This one's by a mile. Getting my then six year old daughter on Millennium Force for the first time. Yes, she loved it. 2. Going to Hershey Park and Kennywood. As rough as bits of those trips were, I loved getting to go to those two parks, as did the usual traveling posse. Although both parks were busy, I scored ten credits on some amazing rides. 3. Halloween at Cedar Point, even though we didn't go in a single haunted area and ninety percent of the coasters were closed due to wind. But Maverick wasn't! 4. Though I didn't get near either, the mere idea of two parks so close together, building rides by two of the top coaster building firms in such close proximity to one another, with essentially the same name and themeing is beyond cool. Whether you liked one and hated the other, or trims ruined your trip, you have to admit that it's a really cool concept, especially when we got to see a true Intamin versus B&M face off, and not in an ugly, internet fanboy kind of way. I cannot wait to ride them. Edited to add: Not park related, but getting a book deal was amazing, and I cannot wait for March when my novel comes out. -
Interview with Walter Bolliger!

So, we lose any validity on this interview? -
1. When I was fourteen I was riding Cedar Point's Blue Streak. Next to me was my best friend, in front of our row in the car was my sister and one of her buddies, and behind my friend and I were my Mom and Dad. The train leaped down the first hill like normal, but as it bottomed to the first valley, something whipped over my sister's head, as well as my own. It was gray, and the rest of the ride was normal. When we exited the ride, after the riders being welcomed back and then telling the ride ops how our ride was, a really rude woman pushed through our group. My Dad took after her like he was mad she touched his shoulder or kids or something. He caught her just before the ride op, and held up a gray purse. He said: "Ma'am, I caught your bag." She was delighted, and I got one more reason to think my Dad was super rad, he can catch random stuff thrown from a coaster. 2. A preface: I have a ton of tattoos and really, really big ear piercings. Most people that hate this are at least quiet about how gross I look. Last year, at Hershey Park's "Spring in the Park" event, a young woman was passing a friend and I as we rounded each lap in the derby to ride The Great Bear. When the line reached its splitter moment, the young woman in question held her phone to my face, took a picture of my big old ear, and said to her friend, "that's fucking disgusting." I said, "did you just take a picture of me?" And she turned away and I moved with the line. That was the apex of a really rotten trip to Pennsylvania.
