Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread

That only applies to those who were season pass holders for this year. Otherwise, it says Bring a Friend for $25 once per month. -

Stand-Up Waterslides
Midgetman82 replied to I305forever's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think some water parks make you sign a waiver, but I've been to some that don't. I think you have to sign something if you're standing-up surfing. -
Stand-Up Waterslides
Midgetman82 replied to I305forever's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Maybe in the U.S. But they're pretty lenient on lots of slide concepts in many parts in Europe! There's crazier stuff out there that exist. -
Crazy Chinese Water Canon Slide.
Midgetman82 replied to Gutterflower's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's a European creation! The guys that pioneered this machine also do titanium dry and water slides, and they make a good majority of the high quality alpine coasters we've all come to love. I'm personally a bit iffy about ever trying one of those things, but they certainly look neat!! -
LR runs both trains on weekends, but with recent issues with the purple train it may drop to 1 for a bit. T3 will get a second train eventually, and Thunder Run doesn't slow down enough to stop its train from slightly entering the station. You could easily spend 4 hours in the park only riding major rides (LR, Thunder Run, FearFall, Cyclos, maybe some more flats), and probably a little over 5 if you include T3. Though, I understand if you wouldn't want to pay day admission to do only those... which is another reason why I would very-highly recommend including the water park in a visit.

I love Holiday World very dearly, but I do want to point out that they did scatter two of their billboards mere walking distance from different sides of Kentucky Kingdom! There's an extra along the highway near the airport as well. Holiday World Advert Outside KK by Marcus Dorsey, on Flickr -
Go Cards. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh C A-s much as this isn't the place to discuss what college we root for (or attend/ed), I do find this hilarious.T-o be honest, I wish parks would pick different colors than red for once. S-ince T3 is already red, it would make more sense to pick another color like green.

I wouldn't call it the most intense body slide I've been on, but the length of the drop and the speed reached is definitely something I've never felt on another water slide! Sheesh, really?! You mean in complete flips?! The most I've seen it do was 6 (with me onboard, it was beyond amazing). I knew Luna 360 at Coney Island did a s***-ton of flips already, so I'm assuming Cyclos just needed to warm up or something, especially considering that the first weekend it opened it averaged only 1 flip.

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
Midgetman82 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Jumping-in on the hopeful-thinking train: bulldozing (or repurposing) the theater and using that space to plant a station for a possible giga would be a great option imo. Plenty of space between the Racer's fork, and they already have a queue that they could easily add-on to. Do what Kings Dominion did and place it near the back. It will get crowds towards its back corner towards Windseeker and Vortex, and also disperse crowds to the other major-ride corners like Banshee's and Diamondback's areas of the park. -

^Capacity would be better suited for a park of this size too, I would assume. -
Uh, my recent top-3: 1-GWAZI 2-Voyage 3-Kentucky Rumbler T3 is still a close top 5 contender in some (front) seats, I will admit, but at least it's survivable without headaches in any seat.

Beech Bend Discussion Thread
Midgetman82 replied to Jonathan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I rode a couple weekends ago for the first time. Very kooky, but very fun ride! Had many laps on it, and even once beside an older lady who seemed like she would've hated it but was surprisingly chill the entire time (she did say she was a thrill seeker )! I didn't really get disoriented on it. Edit: Totally missed the post above me somehow. That is very unfortunate, and I definitely hope everyone hurt recovers well. -

Are they saying "Lift... off... lift-off... lift-off...?" -
Let's not forget the name of the water park: Hurricane Bay... shucks, there's a world class launched coaster 1.5 hours northwest at another park that has some sort of "storm" in its name. I'm all for the consistent theming. It kind of goes along with some pre-existing theming within the park already (aside from the coasters, plus Cyclos) like the entire water park, Mile High Falls, Raging River Rapids, and Swampwater Jacks restaurant (sort of, though more of Louisiana swamp diner). T3 has a new in-station safety announcement audio track that has lightning sounds in it too. I remember seeing the same stuff happening with T-Bird's announcement. It wasn't until the ride was nearing closer to completion that people learned to love it more and more. I may be getting ahead of myself, but I'm definitely expecting the same with this.

I don't think KK has the time or marketing team capable of doing something like that, or the cash to bring-in a third party to help do it for them (somewhat like Thunderbird, which I'm certain was one you had in mind). KK hasn't really done any super-special announcements since the Lightning Run reveal, usually it's just press conferences for the media and then posting images/videos/press release online. He's just a CP fan boy , who is upset because Kentucky Kingdom is getting something unique, besides a " Dive Coaster" Also, I tend to use the sentence "something somebody designed in NL2" as a compliment nowadays. There's some freakin' mind-blowing concepts made in that simulator that I would LOVE to see produced in real life. Yowza, that person was ready to recreate it!

Very happy to see a good majority of the rumors were true! The coaster layout looks amazing, like Lightning Run but a few steps above in terms of throwing in actual inversions. I'm proud to see Kentucky Kingdom finally getting a second unique coaster, and I'm twice as excited to have both a Chance "Mega-Lite" AND an RMC just 30 minutes from home!

KMG new rides in 2012 and 2013

A 200+ foot trailer-mounted inverted swing ride...? Sign me up! Europe gets all the good flatrides. -
Sorry to hear you had a horrible time at the park. I can understand your pain for single trains on Thunder Run and T3 (if you got to try it), but if Lightning Run was only 1 train, then that might have been a bit inexcusable. The only time you'll really see 15 minute waits or less are on days of inclement weather, or some days in May or early June. And just to update anyone else trying to hit Kentucky Kingdom anytime this summer, make T3 a priority. People wait for the park to open, then immediately power-walk their way to the back just to hop in line. A little over an hour after park opening can see to 30-45+ minute waits on certain days. Later in the day, it can get to over an hour.

It sure did have a lot of laterals, so there's a start. Lots of those strong turns could become overbanks or camelbacks. Plus when you consider the entire second half of Wicked Cyclone, you can bet the company can still make an insane ride from tiny bunny-hops and ground-hugging barrel rolls. Add in the dueling aspect and possible Mobius loop, and you've got a potential hit for the park. Of course, this is just me finally jumping on the speculating bandwagon.
