Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
Tmcdllr replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It has already been said that the park stated they have no desire to trim it. -
Maybe it would have made a difference starting this sooner, maybe not, maybe if it was started sooner something still could have happened to delay it like this- NOBODY ON HERE KNOWS FOR SURE. It was 'supposed' to open on a certain date and will not, can't change that. (what's that saying..."you should worry about things you can change and not worry about things you have no control over"- [like this]). If you planned a trip based on when this was supposed to open you only have yourself to blame. All this bashing the park and SF is tiring. Is all of this energy being put into the negative commenting on this park really going to change anything? Probably not. Get over it, move on, ride it AFTER it has opened.

Well in that case no park should ever announce an opening date until the night before. Anything can happen to cause a delay, sometimes it's just part of the process. Yeah it sucks if you have made plans but it sucks even more if you have no backup plan. So then the best thing to do to not inconvenience yourself is to never plan on riding something when it is planned to open, wait until it is already open. The park did what it had to do and what it has done, that's all in the past now. You can't blame the park for messing up plans YOU made- it's just not their fault. Blame them if you will but it is misplaced.

The thought of a transfer track costing as little as $100,000 amuses me. You're talking cost for more track, an additional train, added hardware to move the tracks, larger station to accommodate plus queues to get to both sides, and computer hardware and software to control it all. Not to mention a higher operating cost for more ops to run both sides and higher maintenance cost to take care of an additional train and moving components. Overall you're looking at extra hundreds of thousands a year in operating/maintenance costs and would probably cost $500,000 to a million at initial installation. Agreeing with Double0Kevin I would also add that it makes no difference if they saved any money on an attraction for THIS year and it does not necessarily affect the new attractions budget for the FOLLOWING year. If I am not mistaken, each fiscal year they have a budget for rides. Whatever they don't spend within that fiscal year does not carry over to the next, or at least I would be a little surprised if they did it that way.

I'm sure the park/Six Flags considered all of the available options and chose this based on what they were able to do. Like said, capacity will suck but it's better than not having it at all. Also... I would not be surprised at all if this had a major impact on the decision for this ride.... if they can make more money off of Flash Pass due to low capacity, can you really blame them?

But if the block ahead of it is not yet cleat why would the computer even try to launch it? Why wouldn't it just stop the train there and wait? -
Backseat engineering? Personally, I wouldn't pretend to know things that I didn't. I'm pretty excited to see testing for this thing, and can't wait to hear reviews of people crapping their pants! EDIT: And here's a picture from the Park Index of two cables successfully holding the cars on Giant Drop in Dreamworld. I think 2 cables will be fine... No, not backseat engineering and I do not pretend to know these things which is why I asked a simple question based on an observation... something wrong with that?
