This is really terrible! The loser-niners need to go away somewhere else and not come down here to ruin a perfectly good park. Take your crappy football team and ruin some other community. At least there is still the VERY GOOD CHANCE the residents will vote it down. I appeal to all the Santa Clara residents, this is a very bad thing please vote against it. Not only is it bad for the park, which not to long ago YOU voted to save, but YOU will be paying for the stadium, yes YOU in the form of a tax. Is that what you really want? I know I would much rather take my family to a fun, safe theme park instead of a dangerous, crappy football game. I think if anything, it's the demands of Cedar Fair that could, fortunately, ruin this deal for the niner-losers.

I've been Hired at California's Great America!

When did that change? When I was there you had to be 18. -

What happens when there is a miscatch? Never seen one. I was a ride op there for several rides/coasters in 1989 and I really liked it. Being outside and watching girls "fall out of their tops" on Grizzly was very enjoyable. It was a little boring at times, pushing buttons and announcing the same spiels for hours on end. We had one goofy op that when he was at panel, he sounded exactly like the famous guy that did all the park announcements for years...creepy! But I will tell you it was absolutely the most fun I have ever had working anywhere. Good luck with it and have a good time. It really is a great place to work at. -
^True you could but that doesnt mean anything since at this point nobody knows which parks are going. And, as someone pointed out, its going, most likely first, into smaller parks with fewer rides which would tend to have longer lines so it would not make sense to use it yet at the bigger parks with more rides and comparably shorter lines. So in that respect, you cannot use this to judge which parks would be sold off, in my opinion.

..."the official chicken of Six Flags"...lol! They should strike a deal with LG so the employees while working could be on "the official personal electronic device of Six Flags." Besides all that, I hope the new system works well. I have not had the pleasure of using it but it sounds like a really good thing.

CGA Gets New Signs
Tmcdllr replied to Stealthguy05's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wow that is pretty plain, it looks generic like it says to passers by.."oh yeah, over here is great america but whatever" when it should have more color and maybe 3-D lettering/graphics, and be higher so it shouts "HEY HERE IS GREAT AMERICA COME IN AND CHECK IT OUT!!!." But that's just me. I wonder what the sign on 101 will look like. Recently when Paramount redid it it looked really cool and bright, but now I wonder if it will even look halfway decent. -
^^^As far as Mantis that was caused by wet tires not wet brakes. And for Magnum, I find it hard to believe wet brakes caused that on their own, something else had to be going on too. If it were just because of wet brakes, as PURE mentioned, then everytime it rained all the coasters would have to be shut down because the brakes would not work. Wet brakes alone are not going to cause problems. The rides are designed to be used outside in the rain and the brakes will work just fine wet or dry.

^Good information, glad it came from someone who has had experience rather than just guessing. As far as RRv and Goliath misparking, since there are no brakes in those stations only drive tires, I can see how wet tires can affect train positioning as they wouldnt have as good a grip on the train as brakes would. Also, have either of the cars on Superman ever reached the brakes at the top of the tower?
-
^So when it does overshoot the station what stops it back there...mechanical brakes, right? And what happens when its coming back down the tower and the power goes out? I dont quite remember how the LSMs work on that ride. Does the car stop mid-track or does it coast until it hits the station holding brake? Maybe the same would apply for an E-stop situation?

Great America Renames Top Gun

And you never get worked up over anything? Yeah the ride is not gonna be any different but the name does totally blow chunks. -

Well we have to spaz out about something. Not impressed with the name. If this is the shining example of their creative genious then they should just give up on thinking up coaster names and call them all "roller-coaster." Never the less, I cant wait to ride it again, whatever it is called. -
I say good! Nobody wants to have their expensive dining experience ruined by a bunch of screaming, messy kids running around. Disney is all about kids but it is nice to see that they realize that the adults that bring the kids, which are the ones that are paying, have a place of their own away from "children hell" that is void of kids. Taking trips with your kids is great, but sometimes on the trip you need some time away from the them and this is a great place for that.

1997 Water World slide collapse
Tmcdllr replied to speedracer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Even if emergency stop was pressed the water in the slide is not going to stop or instantly go away. I agree though there is something missing here. Is there a link to the official report on the findings of the investigation? -

On the one hand I know its just a waterslide but it should have been designed to handle something like that. On the other hand, how can you protect against stupid people doing stupid things and ignoring warning signs and employees? Yeah maybe this could have been avoided if it was stronger but the same is true if they obeyed the signs. No matter what someone sometime will pull a stunt like this and it is unfortunate because somebody usually gets hurt or killed. This is what stupidity and trying to be cool at theme/water parks will get you....is it really worth losing a life for it? -
I wanted to ride it as it was the only credit I did not have and the last 3 years I visited I was hoping to get on it, impossible now. Eventhough it sounded like it was absolutely horrible I still wanted to try it. But its good they are removing it instead of letting it sit there forever. Now I would like to see Revolution get some tlc and remove the otsr...at least finish painting the rest of, always thought it was kind of stupid the way they half-ass painted it. If you are going to paint something do the whole thing, especially what we can see.
-
Can you imagine parks doing this every time there was an accident, even if it was the riders fault? Not likely but the thought makes me cringe. I think its great the park is doing something about it but removing it completely is a little too much. If it were not for the bad press and media kind of exploiting this I think the ride would have stayed put, where it should be.
-
^Generally speaking, its like that because the GP is ill-informed or just ignorant of how truly safe amusement park rides are and that is unfortunate because it causes people to get the wrong idea and gives rides a bad rap and, its not fair to the parks either. The GP needs to be educated on the excellent safety records many rides have. As much as this needs to be done, I dont see it happening.
-
It totally figures. Leave it to the general public to completely misunderstand something like this and blow it way out of proportion. When I hear stuff like that in line I just laugh to myself and say whatever. Try to explain to them they are way safer on the rides than in their car and you are just wasting your time. Again, whatever.

Worst Coaster Experience
Tmcdllr replied to airforcekid's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Psyclone... I had a less painful experience throwing myself against the wall outside the station repeatedly face first than I did riding it. X was pretty painful on the outsides too. Grizzly @ CGA, I dont what pissed me off more- it being slow or it being painful, yeah both. I hate that thing and every ride on it sucks, but I ride it anyway.
