  1. I don't know who this guy is or is supposed to be. Why is he a douche?
  2. USA today article The only one on that list I have ridden is X2, and while it is an awesome ride it can beat you up. Are any on that list your favs? Are there any that should not be on the list or are missing? I thought this was interesting since the guy is 73 years old and has ridden almost 800 roller coasters! If only I were that lucky. There is also a link to some nice photos too.
  3. Then it is reasonable to assume that since it did not e stop, all the pedals were in a "locked" position, unless that sensor failed to detect it somehow. Then I just learned something new about these. The train I am familiar with you have to hold the pedal down and if a restraint was left up as the train was dispatched, the pedal stayed down, which would physically hit a switch and stop the lift, it was very cheesey and if you were on the train you could reach out and hit the switch as you went by, stopping the lift, I would guess by now that has been changed. The photo eye-reflector setup seems a lot better. This is an odd request, could someone post a pic of this setup so I could see it?
  4. The pedal stays down until you kick it back up.....where is the failsafe in that design?
  5. Even if they added more inversions I wouldn't care, if its another fun coaster then I am totally good with that. An Intamin 500 foot drop or Megalite coaster would be a lot of fun too. The 500 foot drop coaster would be a standard coaster, maybe have some inversions, a bunch of airtime, and way more than a mile long....record breaker is what I am thinking. That would be sweet. The largest park I have been to is MM and it is my favorite, I know its not the best and there are other parks that may have more or better coasters but I really enjoy my time at the mountain and look forward to going there every year, just wish it was closer. Next year though it will finally be a trip to Cedar Point, can't wait!
  6. I also doubt that someone already locked in the train would be able to reach out and press the pedal down. There are two things that make this a problem.... 1. You have to almost stand on most of the pedals to push them down and unless you hold them down, they will go back up and lock the restraints 2. The way the car and restraint are designed, once you are seated and locked in, it is impossible for you to somehow reach around the restraint and bend your arm down to reach the pedal. Even if you could the pedal is too far away from you to be able to reach it and push and hold it down long enough to lift the restraint, if even at all. Mechanical failure seems more likely although I dont know for sure.
  7. Exactly, I feel the same way and I have to drive six hours to get to the park. Over a parking lot? Who cares! Its a fun ride and that should be what matters most. Sure it would be nice to see something around it, I mean why not? But something silly like that is not going to ruin my experience on it or Goliath or Colossus or any other ride built on a parking lot. I'm not going to drive for six hours just to get all the way down there and say "oh, its over a parking lot, no thanks" that would just be stupid! Fresh cut fries across from Goliath? Will for sure do that....mmmm!
  8. The pedal is there, I already posted a picture of where it would be on the car.
  9. Well then I guess you haven't ridden Viper if you think Scream is rough. Here we go with the parking lot nonsense again... okay it's over a parking lot...SO WHAT, it's still a fun ride and I have to wonder, all these people that bring up the parking lot thing every frikin single time this ride is mentioned, is that all you think about when you ride it, really? That would be sad. Yes, we know it's over a parking lot people have been saying that for YEARS now, can we just move on please? And you know if Scream was gone tomorrow these same people would all of a sudden be complaining that it got removed......whatever.
  10. That thought has never crossed my mind on any ride I have been on but I think adding seatbelts would be a good idea especially after this. I agree they were very lucky, it could have been a horrible tragedy and the park is lucky too, maybe after this close call they will look into the seatbelt thing. Even with good maintenance freak things can happen and seatbelts would be one step in avoiding such an incident.
  11. Especially since these are old Arrow trains. The Vekoma trains have much stronger pedals, that can't be pushed easily (Emergency only). The Arrow trains used to be operated without the 'restraint opening bar' underneath the train in the station. They needed to have weaker springs, so operators wouldn't break their legs kicking the pedals Does anyone know if these restraints are still opened by foot? The old Arrow trains, like on Demon at CGA, have an automated restraint opening bar at the station under the train to automatically unlock/lock all the restraints on the train at the same time, but each car has a manual release pedal on the "exit" side to manually unlock all the restraints on that car if for some reason the automated system did not, or, say, they needed to evacuate the train on the lift. This train looks very similar and maybe from about the same era so I would guess in the station the automated system is there plus the manual release on the side. In order for all the restraints in one car to unlock during the ride, either there was some kind of malfunction on the locking mechanism on the car, there was something in or on the track that hit the lever underneath the car to unlock them, or somehow the manual release pedal on the side magically got pushed down. From my experience working on Demon, the foot pedals are not that easy to push down, you almost have to stand on them to get the restraints to unlock. This is a pic of the Boomerang train from this ride (from rcdb), the yellow circle shows where the manual restraint release pedal would be on the back of the 'exit' side of the car sticking out... How something could hit or even push down on this pedal is beyond me and unlikely, maybe something happened underneath that car when the train grabbed the lift chain on the second lift hill and the fact that it grabs the chain pretty hard might be enough to jar the lock mechanism on the train if for some reason it was damaged or weak. I must point out I am no expert on this and I wasn't there when this happened, I can only base my statements on my experience with this type of train. This is very interesting.
  12. The games make money for the park kind of like the way slot machines make money for the casinos.
  13. A couple of areas I can think of... "Coasters of pain and doom"...featuring only coasters by Vekoma, Arrow, Togo, and any other horrible head bashing and painful coasters. Guests must sign a liability waiver before entering this section of the park. There would also be an upcharge for the previously mentioned "Vekoma bracing techniques" course which every guest must take to gain entry to this section. This would be in contrast to the "Coasters of happy smiling smoothness of joy", featuring some of the best and smoothest coasters of B&M, Intamin, and others. Guests entering this section would receive a refund of the Vekoma course, even if they did not take it. "WTF is that...coasters"..featuring the "odd Boomerang", "CGAs Grizzly", The dog fart coaster, the spinning batwing suspended coaster that does not spin, and many, many more! Guests entering this section would receive free gifts such as used napkins and toilet paper, and the TPR bag O REAL CRAP!
  14. I put my hands up and might utter an "oh" or a "yeah" or "whoooa" but am usually quiet just intensly enjoying the experience, but I always have a big smile on my face through the whole thing. And if it was really an intense ride, I might say afterwords it was fun. I don't scream mostly because rides don't ever scare me, to me they just are really very fun and enjoyable to the point of making me feel very happy.
  15. 500-600 foot drop tower, heck make it 555 feet tall... omg I'm drooling!
  16. Yay! After I visit SFMM, and SFDK, I will for sure go and get my Invertigo credit for the year.
  17. Yeah, I've heard Top Gun has been sinking for the last 10 years...lol! I thought I read years ago that the last helix part of the track in the lagoon actually was but was fixed. At any rate, I'm sure if it really still is sinking we would have all known about it by now.
  18. What a total dumb s@*t! They caught his stupid ass....good!!!
  19. I remember you pointed this out in a discussion as to why some coasters are rough and why some are not. It was something about the way they are tralered or axled, not necessarily if there is a gap between the upstops and track.... or something like that. But I remember you saying that on most Arrow coasters if you don't want to get your brains bashed out you should sit in these seats. Actually, I'm glad that you mentioned it now because I'm visiting there soon and I totally forgot about that little secret. I was going to do my usual sit in the very last row thing, and if I did, I would have a gooey gooey brain mush mess, so thanks for bringing that up. My brain thanks you! And as for one of the Superman captions, "hopefully they'll turn this thing around", that's really funny.
  20. Except for a little head banging and the MCBR/trims, I still enjoy riding Viper.
  21. Snakes and fries....ride a lamp post .....lol The gum steps look really cool! That ride a lamp post pic is my new phone wallpaper As for the Terminator audio, I'm finally going to ride it for the first time in a couple of weeks, if only I had gone to WCB......stupid work!
  22. Has the audio been removed from the trains on Terminator? Thought I read that somewhere and if it was removed, why?
