2012-- What was your highlight?
CoasterRollin replied to Chroniq's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
First weekend of August was mine: On Friday August 3rd, I went to Knoebels for the first time. Obviously popping my Phoenix cherry was a glorious experience. Had to be one of the most insane an hilarious moments in my life when the damn thing tried to throw me out of my seat. With no seatbelts, it definitely felt like I was going up and wasn't going to come back. On Saturday, I went to Dorney and the Drum Corps International Eastern Classic in Allentown. On Sunday, I went to Hersheypark and rode Skyrush for the first time. Got to ride it 3 times (fairly large crowd), once in the front, somewhere in the middle, and once in the back. What a furious ride. -

Not me Perhaps for Sunday??? Though with Hurricane Sandy coming, that's probably not likely... -
TPR! The Travel Channel Needs YOU!
CoasterRollin replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That's good to hear. I was thinking about sending a "friendly inquiry" myself, but the SFA shoot isn't for another two weeks. Understandably, as Robb pointed out, such a big production company doesn't have the time (or the obligation) to answer every little e-mail. Even so, just out of curiousity, has anyone heard replies regarding the CP or SFA shoots? I'm getting giddy. -
Favorite roller coaster?

El Toro - SFGAdv Discerningly quick lift hill that doesn't really give you time to prepare yourself (especially on your first ride) Absolutely breathtaking first drop Crazy insane ejector air time in all seats that you can really feel in your stomach, especially the back Smooth Gives great sense of speed, especially with the twisting finale Intamin "farting" sound as the upstop wheels slam against the tracks I base my decision on how repeatable/memorable the ride experience is. I love S:RoS at SFA, but I can easily get bored with I ride it too much. El Toro, never never gets old... plus it's just better anyway -
You say awkward, I say strategic

If it's anything like the Saturday I went 2 weeks ago... Do the back half of the park first. If it's a sunny/hot day, most people will stick to the front of the park and Wildwater Kingdom. Get on Stinger first if you want the credit and avoid possible breakdowns. If Steel Force is running 3 trains, you'll get rerides like no other. Every time I've visited, Dorney has proved to have stellar operations on most rides. Thunderhawk and Possessed will get longer lines later for the aformentioned 1 train operations. Between 10am and 12:30pm, my ride count was Stinger: 1 (that was one of the days it valleyed) Possessed: 3 Revolution: 2 Thunderhawk: 2 Steel Force: 6 Dominator: 1 And that was all in between taking tons of photos. If you want Talon and Hydra without long waits, then yes, go there first. Their lines can get lengthy pretty early. I only got 1 ride and Talon and Hydra each after 1pm (and Steel Force 2 more times), but that's because I had to leave at 4pm. If the week day crowds are anything like or less than the weekend crowds I've experienced, you'll have no problem doing everything.

Hershey Park Strategy
CoasterRollin replied to roblshan2000's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Honestly, I've never had a bad day there, even on Saturdays. Most I've ever had to wait for anything was around 30 minutes or so, but I guess I've just been lucky. I went on Sunday (and by chance ran into some friends), and coasterfreak101's strategy worked! Got on Farenheit first, and then headed over to the back of the park. The Boardwalk side was criminally empty for a good while after the park opened. Got in Farenheit, Wild Cat (twice), Wild Mouse, Lightning Racer, Trail Blazer, and Storm Runner in by 11:30am. Around 2pm we headed over to Skyrush... waited 15 minutes. I couldn't believe it. I'll post a more detailed PTR about my weekend eventually. Even saw a fellow TPR member sporting the Club TPR shirt! -
Yep, I will be posting pictures later (today? Idk). I made sure to ride it first thing when the park opened because I had a feeling something like this would happen. Demon drop is having problems too. This might be the 2nd year it eludes me. On the other hand, operations on the working rides are great. Steel force is running all 3 trains and the ops are like lighting. I got 4 rerides.

Hershey Park Strategy

This actually helps me out too because I'm going on Sunday. I will try your strategy too and let you know if it works. Thanks! -
What Was the Last Beer You Drank?
CoasterRollin replied to robbalvey's topic in Random, Random, Random
^^I'm recently legal myself. I haven't acquired the taste for dark beers yet either. I like Sam Adams Boston Lager Blue Moon (Belgian White and Honey Wheat are pretty good) Landshark (better than Corona Extra, though that's good too, imo) Dos Equis (when ya wanna be interestin') These are all pretty light beers. -
On Six Flags' post about Titan at SFoT: General nonsense, nothing special. But I must say, what is with the GP obsession of stating that "NO-ONE-CARES-WHERE HAS THE SAME THING" or "SO-AND-SO JUST COPIED WHOSE-IT-NOW. THERE'S IS LYKE 999564743X betturrrlol!" You know that's exactly how they sound in real life. P.S., the bad grammar was intentional

Hey! I'm going to be there that weekend too! Drum Corps International (DCI), has an annual 2-day competition the first weekend in August at J. Birney Crum Stadium just 5 minutes up the street. I'm a drummer and I have friends that march drum corps, so I take this opportunity to go to Dorney. Super convenient. Anyway, when I went that Saturday last year, the biggest lines were for Dominator, Revolution, Possessed, and Talon--even then they were 10-15, maybe 20, minutes max. I actually really enjoy Dorney Park. They have a great collection of rides, they are well-maintained, the scenery is beautiful (especially the river down by Thuderhawk and Steel Force), and it's clean. I rarely buy park food, so that has never been an issue for me. I've even gotten re-rides on Thunderhawk and Steel Force before, but the stations were close to empty.

^ And thanks for sharing; your report was great! I enjoyed reading what you thought about all the coasters. As others have stated (around the forums in general), it's good to see what other enthusiasts think because we all of love coasters, but we do experience them differently! Hope the Washington Beltway (I-495) didn't beat you up too badly.

^^ Good luck! But really, have fun! Something is ALWAYS down at some point, but it's usually minor issues, so you should be able to hit up all the coasters, like vacoaster09 said. Most of the coasters tend to be walk-ons during week days if they have 2 train operations... again, aside from Batwing because of aformentioned "technical difficulties" and perpetual single train operation. I'd recommend riding front row on Apocalypse; seemed to be smoother than the other rows the times I've been on it.
