  1. What part of Malaysia are you and your girlfriend visiting? It's a BIG country - about the same size as the state of California. Malaysia ranges from the metropolis of Kuala Lumpur, to the classic old town of Malacca, to the endless tropical jungles and palm plantations throughout most of the country, to some of the best scuba diving and snorkling waters in the world. I assume, from your message, that Kuala Lumpur is part of your itinerary. Here are some notes on the parks and other attractions to help you out. Overall: Make sure to know how you will be "getting around" - taxis require negotiation (they have meters....but they are all "broken"), drivers can be arranged in advance and are recommended. Watch your valuables. Don't worry about language - most everyone speaks both Malay and English. Be ready for some hot weather. The country is just (barely) North of the Equator - so there are no "seasons" - it's always hot and humid Summertime. Finally, have patience - there's alot of amazing culture to see, but some things you will not find are up to "Western standards." Sunway Lagoon - Great place with lots to do. The resort advertises that it has 5 (or more) theme parks but, in reality, each of these are more like "lands" to a single park. The park was built in an old tin mine - so the entire park is built inside what looks like an old quarry that the jungle is trying to takeover. The water park is huge and has some great "classic" water slides. The coasters at Sunway are nothing to brag about but each is a fun little ride. If you just want to do the "rides" - this is a half-day park. If you want to hit the waterpark (the waterpark is home to the largest wave pool in the world) - then plan on spending most of a day. Genting Highlands - Don't stay overnight up there. Take a day trip using the cable car to reach the resort. Get there at opening and hit the coasters first. Most all of the rides are "off the shelf" - but the cooler temperatures on top of the mountain are a welcome relief from KL. There is some exploring to do up at Genting - but not much. Endless carnival and video games - food is primarily Western fast food (McD's, BK, Pizza Hut). You should be able to do most of the place in a few hours. The cable car station is about an hour's drive from Central KL. Watch out for wild monkey's on the cable car ride! Times Square - A DEFINITE MUST STOP! Not much to do other than an absolute GREAT Intamin multi-looper built inside a shopping mall! It's right in the heart of KL. The park is rarely crowded - and won't take too long to see - but, if you are going to go anywhere in KL for rides - this is the one place to hit! Tickets to the top of the Petronas Twin Towers in KL are hell to get. Arrange in advance with a local guide - these "companies" have people sit in line each morning around 4am to buy tickets in advance. There is a slight mark-up and who knows the legality of it - but it's the only way to get up to the top Don't forget! Legoland Malaysia just opened directly across the Southern border near Singapore (just down the street from the AMAZING Danga World theme park resort). These are the only other amusement/theme parks in Malaysia. Not sure what your travel schedule is - but if you are going to Malaysia and have a few extra days - a visit to Singapore is a must! You can incorporate Legoland into the trip - their are shuttles that run direct from Singapore to Legoland a couple times a day. TONS of attractions (Universal Studios!), history, architecture, and the cleanest country you've ever visited!
  2. Chuanlord was also home to the absolute best walk-through haunt of the trip! Who can forget the AMAZING pre-show (was Johnny Depp really in Treasure Island?)....then just when you thought that was it....you were led into an incredibly confusing walk-through haunt operated by a bunch of the craziest job-loving old Chinese women! Who would have thought a t-shirt tied to a mop handle could be so damn scary!
  3. Keep the photo's coming Ken! - I'm still looking for a picture of the creepy "doll walk thru" in Europa's Switzerland. One thing you really failed to mention - and needed to - was the incredible Italian dinner that TPR provided at Europa Park!
  4. Uh...oh.... The initial investigate stems from an event in the Spring of 2012 where a group of American's consumed an unexpected amount of beer and meat - pushing the owners to try almost anything to recover from the loss Germany's Fort Fun Park Owners Sentenced for Fraud German: WAZ (Essen, Germany) – December 18 The 29-year-old former owner of the Sauerland amusement park, identified in court documents as Matthäus Z., was sentenced to three years, 10 months in prison after he admitted culpability in a multi-million Euro fraud that began in 2011. His mother and co-conspirator was given a two-year suspended sentence. The scheme resulted in the park owner and a roller coaster developer loosing more than €6 million (US$7.9 million). Lawyers said the pair were given lighter sentences because they admitted guilt. / Bestwig., The 29-year-old Matthew Z. in Fort Fun Process sentenced on Tuesday by the Economic Chamber of the District Court of Arnsberg to a prison term of three years and ten months for fraud. His co-accused mother escaped with a two-year suspended sentence. The dream life of only 29 years old, interim Fort Fun-owner Matthew Z. since Tuesday dreamed out in legal terms. He was driven by the desire to own someday an amusement park, said the presiding judge of the Criminal Court of Arnsberg economy, Klaus-Peter Teipel, at the sentencing hearing. Despite its parlous financial situation he had worked hard to achieve this goal - and the offenses committed. The acknowledgment was the former singer and media mogul a sentence of 3 years and 10 months for fraud. His co-accused mother escaped with a two-year suspended sentence. So the events of the year 2011/2012 in Hochsauerland spectacular abspielten so unspectacular was the end of the procedure on the fifth trial. The ruling is the result of an agreement of the parties - the legal framework ("no deal, no wheeling and dealing"), as Judge Teipel reiterated. Z. had been picked in a statement through his lawyer, to have faked a bank statement and a letter from a bank - to the Fort Fun Adventure Land for EUR 6 million can buy. The fixed amount of EUR 250,000 was paid family breeder with the commission for the appointment of a roller coaster. Court certifies cheated a "naive" Teipel judge could not avoid the impression that the previous convictions for fraud and prisoners as of 29-year-old has never traded some "talent" for falsifying documents. Certainly a "talent that is inconsistent with the legal system in line." The chamber attested yesterday the parties of the family Z. a "certain degree of naivety." So it is a mandated "highly paid" law firm had failed at a bank to ask whether any money is in an account under the Frankish family. Teipel: "They would just have to ask the bailiff, then the business would not even come about." The court found in the 29-year-old Matthew, who initiated the fraud. His mother, but I partake. Her sentence was suspended because it was not previously entered against it in appearance. For prosecutor Henning Michels was the motivation of the former owner of a small supermarket in the dark: "Why do you do that when you're gone before quite solid through life?" Strafmilderndes confession A mitigating deemed the court the confession of the accused and their commitment to a civil claim for compensation. Mother and son Z. who yesterday apologized to the park staff for them to have been of great concern. "It was a serious mistake," said the 29-year and stressed that they have not had the aim to enrich themselves. Attorney Michels saw in the purchase of many years' hinkriselnden right "Fort Fun Adventure Land is the last chance for Ziegler (" he had a penchant for something bigger "), to acquire a recreational park. Previously, several attempts had been unsuccessful. "With audacity and criminal energy and the knowledge to have no capital, hell-bent on trying to fulfill his life's dream."
  5. ^ The park has been owned by Six Flag's for more than 11 years now. I'm sure that's more than enough time for people to give Six Flag's the opportunity to change some very basic policies. ....and I think you just gave an excellent answer as to why this type of decision is made...
  6. ^ Damn. Ok. I'll be the first to say it. "...that's right. Old and Stupid."
  7. I've been to all of 'em and hands down the winner is Tokyo Disneysea. If you haven't been - trust me - it not only lives up to expectations...but blows them away. This park truly excels at the "wow" factor both in themed environments, attraction mix, and service! Disneyland Paris may sweep the "prettiest" park award for this list - but the operations there and (not naming any specific demographics) the guest behavior at the park drop it in my rankings. I completely agree with "rcdude" - Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Paris is absolutely at the bottom of my list too. Yes - it's version of Rock n Roller Coaster is an exceptional improvement over Florida's, and the Nemo coaster is alot of fun. But the park really is pretty dismal overall. Heading back to Disneyland in February...."the original" still holds a "very close Best Disney Park #2" in my heart!
  8. I'm sorry but, to be honest, I think the "country-style dinner" was one of the most entertaining parts of the China trip!!!! Most common quotes heard during this historic TPR dinner? "What do you think that is?" "Is that the beak or a foot?" "Are you going to try that? Really?" I found Mr. Fish and Mr. Chicken. Any idea what animal that one is? "Does anyone have any idea where we are?" "Give it to James. I'll bet he will eat it!" "If it's not a beak and not a foot. Why is it crunchy? Oh god what am I eating?!?!?!" "Yes, I live in Asia. No, I have no friggin' clue what this is" It's some sort of Chinese Flan. But why is a served in a bowl bigger than my head? "The bug zapper just got a big one! Did you hear it?!?!?!" "I will pay someone 1000 Yuan for a Big Mac right now" "Those children bussing tables need to get to sleep. My iPhone 5 needs to be shipped by the time I get home!" Anyone else?
  9. AGREED! Spin Bullet was awful. We all had to do it because of the credit (stupid hobby!) - but should have had a few hours of Asahi "party beer" before attempting that evil contraption of pain. Now the other attractions at Joypolis = AMAZING! The Room of the Living Dolls was still a blast - and, as bad as the capacity is, Halfpipe Canyon is still a damn fun time. So.....How many enthusiasts would count Halfpipe Canyon as a credit? Much less FOUR different credits??!?!?!?
  10. Sorry guys, but your comparisons are very much inaccurate On a scale of size and hotel rooms - you would need to compare the entire country of Singapore if you wanted to compare it to the City of Orlando. The 17 million annual visitors quoted in the article is ONLY for Resorts World Sentosa - this includes the attractions at the resort (Universal Studios Singapore, Adventure Cove Waterpark, and S.E.A. Aquarium) plus the resort's six hotels, casino, and the public spaces (restaurants, etc). Just the small island of Sentosa (which is MUCH smaller than even WDW) hit 19.1 million guests in 2011 - and is likely to break the 20 million guest mark in 2012. ....business and the economy is really good in Asia!
  11. Reason #743 why running Windows on your Mac is probably a waste Honestly - this just made my day! I was just glancing down the forums and saw this - wow! I've searched off and on around the Ap Store in the past and it wasn't there - and, for simplicity, didn't want to be forced to run Windows (ugh) on my Mac just to play RCT I'm also one of those folks who haven't played in years - looking forward to getting back into the game Thanks for the great news!
  12. I've enjoyed this App ever since Robb made the beta version up for download - it's a great time waster on the train to work! Nice work Robb on this project - we appreciate it! Quick question: I purchased the Photo Trivia Pack Two on my old iPhone 4S (and it transferred nicely to my 5 thank you Apple & TPR!). But, when I open the TPR Trivia App on my iPad - it wants me to purchase Photo Pack 2 again. Is the purchase device-specific and not account-specific? Thanks! (waiting for my TPR ornament to arrive....I've already picked the ride to hang it in for a Christmas holiday "easter egg"!)
  13. Great pics Kyle! One thing you are forgetting is the AMAZING cleanliness and sanitary conditions at Movie Park Germany - Dan "What the F*&K" Rapids Man Let's start with the friendly German guy who politely asked everyone to lean to the right-side of the boat at Alien Encounter so he could stick his hose in the boat and suck out all the black water from the bottom! (that last sentence was NOT meant to be sexual you sick freaks!) Seriously. The water was black. If I left with ONLY malaria - I would be happy. The hourly capacity of the ride was ENTIRELY dependent on how fast this dude could suck! And PLEASE don't forget about the queue of Van Helsing's Factory. Seriously, please don't forget about it - because apparently all of the employees there already have
  14. They were following the group right up to the steps of the bus and were quite relentless. Larry did score a laser pointer, cheap, from one after the river cruise. Got it for about $3 USD. I'll never use it but better to waste $3 than $11 Fact: Larry is 10x a better negotiator than Universal Dan Another Fact: Dan's housekeeper at the Shanghai Westin got herself a piece-of-crap $11 laser pointer for a tip!
  15. ^ Chuanlord was a creepy-enough place that if we stayed there any longer...that probably would have happened!
  16. Larry, you are absolutely correct! Chuanlord's Monkey on a Goat on a Stool on a Tightrope = James and Dan in complete amazement!
  17. Absolutely great trip report so far, Megan! Happy Valley Beijing is everything (or less) you've described. I'm typically one of those people who want to spend as much time at a park as possible to experience everything I can (hence the jokes about me wanting to see all the shows) - but after a few hours at HVB I couldn't wait to get out of there...and fast! Thanks for the great TR and pix - keep it up!
  18. Is it wrong if I throw a vote in for Universal Studios Singapore's Revenge of the Mummy? It is a MUCH improved version of Orlando's Mummy (hint hint....no Brendan Frasier) with a great storyline and improved effects
  19. 2 photos of the infamous "Crab Island Bathrooms of Chinese Death"
  20. ....scare zones AND an original event icon with a great backstory!
  21. FINALLY (thanks Joey) someone mentioned Dodonpa. I love airtime as much as anyone - but putting my hands up on that first front-row ride was probably the stupidest thing I've done. Well - there are some Chinese knock-off SLCs and credit whore runs we've done on TPR trips which are probably just as stupid. But, the pain from Dodonpa's restraint hitting a rider's legs is crazy-bruising awful
  22. 2 nights into the event and rolling strong!
  23. Don't forget Universal Studios Singapore's new attraction!
