  1. This.... This looks incredibly fun. I like it very much.
  2. they should rename the article "Why Intamin craps all over just about every other coaster in the world but a select few"... and none of them are in California.
  3. Here's something that I just thought about, is Mantis Man still doing his daily marathons on Xcelerator? The last discussion we had of him was in 2008, and that was probably the last time I visited the park frequently enough where I would run into him. I wonder what his number is at now.
  4. What if they just set up the attraction to serve only guests with park hopper tickets? If you only have a single park ticket, you wouldn't be allowed access to the Express. Sure it would rustle some jimmies, but it seems like the most efficient way to handle such a process. We shall see how its handled by next summer. Ultimately, its just a minor detail anyways.
  5. If they get rid of haunt they could finally build that B&Intamin HYPER GIGA ROCKET LAUNCH MILLENNIA COASTER RAWRRZZZ!!!!!!111111 But seriously, Knotts NEEDS haunt. They're not trying to kill it. That's absolutely silly.
  6. You don't really need gimmicks. Honestly a brand new ride for the region to conquer is gimmick enough. Just make the ride look cool and interesting. There's also word of mouth. I think the "gimmick" might be necessary for parks like Six Flags who generally have a low quality park experience to begin with, but for places like knoebel or Holiday World that are generally regarded as good as is, any sort of new addition would only continue to add and build upon the current experience.
  7. True, but makes you wonder what happened to the "whatever your job is, do it as well as you can" idea. Still, would the pay would be significantly different to that on offer at Knotts or Disneyland? Those parks don't seem to have a reputation for unprofessional staff. Company culture plays a huge role in employee behaviour. Having worked for Disney and Knotts, I can say that Disney pays slightly better starting out and there is a greater potential to move up. There's also the hope of becoming full time which gives Disney employees benefits such as health and vacation time. Disney also provides a significant discount on vacation packages for its employees. Not to mention the perks of working for a company with a well respected and loved brand. People love disney, and if you work for Disney people will come up to you and tell you how cool they think that is. It helps to establish a sense of pride. If people care about what you're doing, you'll in return care. Not to say that there aren't people who are currently working for Disney that don't give a shit, but I feel in general most people do care and try to meet those high level of expectations. Knott's on the other hand, I think they pull from a more enthusiastic bunch. The employees are still underpaid and it didn't seem like there was much hope to move up beyond shift lead. I personally didn't last more then 3 months at Knotts. I worked at Disney for over 2 years and would work there again under the right circumstances. I agree with your idea about company culture though. I think my experiences reflect that. And its kind of one of those things where poisonous attitudes will continue to breed the same attitude among others and it seems like it would be nearly impossible to change. I think you'd see a huge difference between SFDK employees vs SFMM, but I feel that SFDK offers more to be proud of. It's not just a bunch of coasters spread out over a hill in the middle of the desert more or less.
  8. What do you expect from the demographic who acquire a low level job at SFMM? Its kind of the nature of the beast.
  9. I really hope this element makes up for the removal of what looked to be a gnarly airtime hill! It looks really cool though.
  10. Agreed. That's what I've been saying all along... Yea, I never understand the critique of video quality for what is essentially free content.
  11. Sounds like a total failure on the manufacturer's part to have not foreseen these issues and made an appropriate and efficient design to appropriately accomodate such issues.
  12. Now there's nothing to explore. Go on rides. Go home. That's it. There's no imagination.
  13. Interesting topic to say the least. I feel like I'd have to put my money on Vortex at PGA. I dont see any of the batman's going away because I think they're still very popular. Led Zeppelin... you don't think anyone would try and purchase it from the park?
  14. Gatekeeper easily. It looks well thought out, and as always, CP really invests into their rides. YOLOcoaster looks like it will be good, sure, but they still should have thrown in a couple more hills before the breaks. Just saying. My prediction for that ride will be an initial very enthusiastic reception, but as time continues, it will drop on the ratings because it just isn't as complete of an experience as it could have been. I think Gatekeepers reception will be much more consistant.
  15. I've only been on the SLC at SFDK, but in general I didn't find it to be that bad. I actually, dare I say, enjoyed it! I don't know how Mexican SLC stacks up against it, and grant it Batman is still better, but I'd honestly take an SLC over a boomerang any day.
  16. I was actually just thinking that it looked like it might be a bit more interesting to be going the other way. It actually does seem a bit more interesting of an experience. The loop as the finish would be exhilarating to say the least.
  17. Lies! They'll just roll out the 2nd train when it's time to maintain the 1st train.
  18. Planking on YOLOcoaster's track is the epitome of YOLO.
  19. How big are the drops you say? Baauer big! *Do the harlem shake* YOLO!!!
  20. Generally speaking, too, when building an attraction, they look at the best methods to deliver the story or experience they are looking to share. Sometimes that 30 year old simulator technology IS the best method. Just because its old doesn't mean it doesn't work. Little Mermaid uses the omnimover system which has been around forever, but it was best suited for the space and attraction that Disney wanted to create. I'd imagine that same mentality was applied here.
  21. I had to do the exact same thing when my friends were talking about it! Honestly, I think we should all agree only to ever acknowledge this ride as ever being YOLOcoaster. And if any one (GP) calls it by its non-kosher name, you just pretend like they did. They'll catch on eventually!
  22. ^ Track being built on top of each other is definitely a unique engineering feat, but does not in any shape add to the ride experience, just the overall outward appearance. YOLO! Also, put my name on the list for parks that receive ONE GREAT coaster every 4 - 5 years vs 1 decent but forgettable coaster every other year. While some of you coaster ho's may YOLO out and say it's all about quantity, I prefer my experience to be filled with quality. I mean after all YOLO and started from the bottom now we here, dats the *poop* I dont like, other cliche pop culture rap expressions I can throw into this with out any regard to its relevancy.
  23. Those average things can sometimes pack quite the punch! It's just a shame when it ends.... prematurely... Giggity!
  24. I would really like to see them take the park in the same direction as Holiday World, Dollywood, or Silver Dollar City. Obviously they don't have the same geographic similarities, but they can apply the similar concepts which would work well, I think.
  25. El Loco's are cool and all but I still think they would have been better off with a 14 inversion euro fighter, amarite?
