Mark Shapiro Visits SFGAm
netdvn replied to mcjaco's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
FIXED Not really aimed at you, but CF fanboys in general... I should've worded it differently. I remember reading somewhere that operations have generally improved over time, and the $1 overmedicated fluffy goo filled bunnies are actually contributing because riders won't have to place their lose stuff in bins/bags in the station, which slows down ride operations. Busch does it and it doesn't really hinder operations at all. Dan - wanna see bad operations? I remember on a number of busy weekends in 2007, they were running 1-train operations on Griffon, which led to 2+ hour waits... It might've been an illusion, but I'm pretty sure they were one train operations. - Nguyen PS: Didn't Revolution recently receive a retro-upgrade where the trains reverted to their original color and the OTSRs were improved? -

^ It's actually not that hard to figure out. If you read through the thread and figure out which SF policies enthusiasts tend to bash, you'll find it. Ah, so the rehabilitation of the many aging thrill machines, the addition of the family friendly attractions, and the improvement in courtesy and hospitality are merely an illusion created by Shapiro to brainwash some enthusiasts into thinking SF is improving... And Shapiro is trying to brainwash the same enthusiasts into thinking that CF is declining in quality by creating images of Knott's losing its charm, trash can filled midways, and huge coasters over concrete. But the CF fanboys and SF bashers are much stronger than that. Combined with the grudges of the highly unsatisfied GP, this army will defeat the aging, poorly run, monster that is Six Flags. And the very fluffy, overmedicated, goo-filled bunny policies, overpriced merchandise, and parking prices will all be fair again... -

Alas, but the almighty Cedar Fair fanboys and Six Flags bashers will rejoice at the downfall of the once mighty Six Flags chain. The great battles between the L-word and heavy taxing policies and of parks will finally end. The stories of horrible SF experiences will finally be laid to rest. The many tears over the loss of rides like Tatsu, Bizarro North, and El Toro would fill many raging rivers though. But enthusiasts and fat ACErs will still flock to and praise the land of concrete, trash cans, and horrible rain policies. and all will be good once again... -

Its a reference to possible games prizes too big to fit in the... forbidden L-word! ... I think EDIT: I forgot to reply to this argument.... They already have... Adding nicely themed family friendly rides like TS and Bucceneer Battle isn't really setting a "Disney" image for Disney-style quality (that would be waay too hard), but it is for decently themed family friendly rides. Last time I checked, there have been fewer troublemakers at SF. On top of adding Thomas Town/Wiggles World as well as coasters and rides that the whole family can enjoy like Tony Hawk, EK, and Terminator SF is really trying their hardest to improve their formerly tattered image. Ummm... Just because you had a bad day at what is considered the worst run SF park doesn't mean you have to bash the entire chain. Those members of the GP probably haven't been to any of the other, better run, SF parks recently to see the positive changes going on. Chances are the last time they went to SF was in 1999-2005 when the chain was the butt-end of the amusement industry. The parks are cleaner, the rides are better maintained, and the staff is friendlier than ever... All parks will overcharge for food and merchandise. That's why I always bring food from home and take home brochures and maps as souvenirs. That way, you save money when visiting theme parks. I know at BGW, they charge $6 for cheap dollar store toys and candy that you can get outside the park for half the cost. -
According to Gas Buddy, the lowest price in Williamsburg is $2.08 and the highest is $2.39. Considering that it was almost $4/gallon around the same time last year, this is pretty good. EDIT: $2.08 is the lowest price for regular in the state of Virginia.

1. How in the world did a one page thread turn into 5 pages of discussion about medicine and goo filled bunnies? 2. How did this turn into a 5 page discussion about why SF sucks? If CF and Busch were the first companies to implement this apparently unpopular policy, then I'm gonna say that I despise CF and Busch for implementing these policies. Those chains will never be seeing my money anytime soon because of their horrible locker policies. The parking policies seem very reasonable as well as the season pass prices. In fact, according to Robb, the admission and parking are much more reasonable than the Busch and CF parks. Shapiro and Co. are trying their hardest to get the chain out of debt and the best all you picky enthusiasts can do is bash the chain. They've upgraded or removed old rides, improved customer service, and turned themselves around within the past few years now. Its been said many times before, but I'm gonna emphasize the fact that SF is becoming the CF of 1999-2005 and CF is becoming the SF of 1999-2005. I thought that CF was the new company to hate... -

^ Since when was SFGAm closing? I've never heard this rumor before... I doubt SF would want to close their most profitable park unless there was a really good reason. ^^ Do you have some sort of hatred toward SF? Most of those comments seem to have been made by members of the GP who have had bad experiences in the past (by past I mean around 1999-2005) and the chain has reformed since then... -
My 1,000th post will be in the Random Thread... Did you know that it is 100% impossible to lick your elbow, but 100% possible to lick the roof of your mouth?

^ Harry Traver was a controversial, but very famous coaster designer from the 1920s who was known for creating the legendary Crystal Beach Cyclone and its sisters, the Revere Beach Lightning and the Palisades Cyclone. Known as the "Terrifying Trio" all three coasters were clones and delivered a terrifyingly intense ride... He also created other types of rides and coasters as well, but those three are his most famous creations. A few questions.... Do you want an out and back layout or a twister layout? When was this coaster supposed to be built? Are you going for realism? If you're not, would you like specific elements to go on your ride (like a splashdown)? I will not send the pics through your email but I will post them here. I have a number of hyper concepts in mind that I'll be willing to make for you.

Better Theming or More Track
netdvn replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
A good theme will automatically take a mediocre ride and turn it into a grade-A world class attraction. Just look at Space Mountain and BTMRR. Without the theming, they're just mediocre, boring rides, but the extensive theme and storyline completely enhance the experience. So I prefer the more extensive theming, than just a good ride... So as long as there's a good theme, the ride is always much better... -
^ RFID = Radio Frequency IDentification... A People Mover is a mass transit system used to essentially move people. It basically consists of a track with vehicles propelled by drive tires. The vehicles are in constant motion and never stop. A perfect example is the People Mover at DL and MK... The MK one is the only one currently operating under the name, Tomorrowland Transit Authority. People movers can be found as transit in major cities as well as airports. EPCOT was also originally planned to use WEDway People Movers as a main form of transportation within the downtown area. EDIT: Added links http://www.yesterland.com/peoplemover.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People_mover

Everything looks amazing so far. I honestly cannot say anything negative it... well, except for the USA section's name. Maybe something like American Roadway or something like that. I can't wait to see the finished product... -

^ I've never seen those comments before but I have seen my fair share of pointless, unfunny chain letters... There seems to be a ton of comments about how 99% of all teens would cry if Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers jumped off of a tall building, which is strange because 99% of the teens that I know hate Disney pop (or any other kind of modern pop for that matter). And then there's the comments that talk about how 99% of teens listen to pop/rap by making a list of artists from two different genres and to copy/paste the comment in 10,000 videos or a scary clown will pop out of your closet and cut your dog's head off. I'm really starting to hate YouTube chain letters...
