  1. Actually IIRC, Scooby Doo is still going strong after all these years, a live action CGI Yogi Bear movie was just released and there's a planned Smurfs movie in production, so I wouldn't say HB is out of date yet (especially with beloved 80s cartoon franchises coming back). It would be interesting to see how some of these rides would turn out today if they were actually built. That dark ride concept is pretty cool on top of the well-themed Flintstones and Jetsons rides. I wonder how some of these rides would transition to the Nickelodeon/Peanuts rethemes that most of the former Paramount parks underwent.
  2. Follow me on deviantART Become a fan on Facebook Flickr too! Walt Disney Studios Walt Disney Studios is a compact Disney theme park located in an undisclosed location. Tons of rides ranging from the traditional family-friendly rides that Disney is well-known for to high-speed thrill rides and everything in between! Rides include Superstar Limo - Not the cheesy dark ride at California Adventure... High speed launch coaster into the heart of LA to your favorite songs. Twilight Zone Escape the 5th Dimension - Dark ride into a cursed movie studio abandoned for decades. Lightning McQueen's Road Rally - 65 mph racing family ride based off of Radiator Springs Racers Jungle Rumble Rapids ride deep into the jungle. Geyser Mountain - Water roller coaster Rusty Mountain - Roller coaster through an abandoned factory... Includes 40 foot drop off. ... and more! I actually posted this online at the beginning of this month.
  3. 1) VW Darth Vader kid... This commercial was cute. And seeing the backstory of the kid as well as the extended commercial really made it even more profound for me. 2) Coke Siege - Definitely a fun commercial. Super Bowl commercials should look high-budget and this one definitely did. The little story was also pretty fun/creative. 3) Doritos Addiction - This commercial seriously made me laugh. Probably the funniest of the entire Super Bowl. Not as good as last years, but one of the better commercials. 4) Both Eminem commercials. I loved the Brisk commercial and I loved the Chrysler commercial. One of them was funny and the other was serious. 5) Snickers - Last year's commercial was great. This year's commercial was pretty much on par. 6) Kia - They had a good commercial last year and this year's commercial was just as good. Not really funny, but definitely high budget.
  4. I wouldn't recommend doing this. The old entrance is meant for staff and tour buses (they also use it for media days), and I doubt the park would look kindly on others trying to use it. Really? I've seen cars parked in there as late as Howl-O-Scream last year, so I know BGW is still using that lot for preferred parking/overflow (at least up until last season). Can't remember if there were any cars for Christmas Town, but the every time I went by BGW for that, the main lot was barely full.
  5. Technically Marriott and Paramount didn't really "dump" just CGA... Both chains basically dropped out of the theme park industry and CGA happened to constantly end up operating under chains that didn't put too many capital investments into it compared to the other parks (although Paramount did an okay job with adding Top Gun, Drop Zone, and Stealth). That's not to say that CGA was "neglected' compared to other parks in the chain because it certainly was.
  6. Saw people in chat and decided to jump in... Just a blank screen, nothing else.
  7. I've been following this (or at least the stuff you posted) on deviantART and I can honestly say, I love reading your comics! I wish you the best of luck with this book. The panels from the book that you posted on dA are phenomenal! -- You haven't contacted Robb about selling copies in the store yet have you?
  8. I was at BGW two weeks ago for a job fair and saw no traces of construction except for the scrambler sitting in the employee lot. I came back a few days later to get some paperwork put together and nothing changed. Driving by BGW, the area seems pretty quiet... No cranes or traces of construction except for some of the visual upgrades Oktoberfest is getting (and those can only be seen inside the park). - Future Mach Tower (and surrounding rides) operator
  9. Station is a bit small and blocky and both immellmans are a bit small compared to the massive first drop. The line goes to the right in front of the station and under the first drop (this is more of along the lines of being picky though). I would suggest drawing some of the elements out a bit more (like the turnaround going into the drop and the MCBR) and then working on the minor details (like the line and the station) once you get better. With the paths, just work on widening the layout of the coaster and the paths will work for you a little better. If you widen the turnaround on the drop, you'll be able to fit the main walkway over the drop and compress the queue line. Same goes for the exit... Widen the drop outside the station (maybe change the terrain a bit to make it a bit closer to the real ride since it goes down a hill) and then move the exit queue closer to the station so it can go over the platform. You have a good start, but building real rides in RCT takes tons of practice to get right. So far the ride looks solid, but I would suggest working on drawing out the elements on the coaster before worrying too much about the scenery. Use pictures of the actual ride as inspiration and you should even work on designing fictional coasters and perfecting the scenery before jumping into ride recreations. - Really hope this helps!
  10. Superman the Escape - should it be classified as a coaster? Texas Giant 2/El Toro - should it be classified as a wood or steel coaster?
  11. Good news: I got a job at my home park and might get to see some TPR members! Bad news: My trip to Europe got cancelled. Good news: I'm going to Atlanta and Toronto, which means possible trips to CW and SFOG with other TPR members. Bad news: There is a chance that I won't be able to visit CW and/or SFOG next year. I'm looking forward to riding some good coasters next year! (and making some good trades)
  12. I literally live next to BGW... I tend to ride my bike/walk there when I have the time. KD is about an hour north in the middle of nowhere. Motor World/VA Beach Amusement Park are an hour and a half south (depending on traffic).
  13. The killer was chillin' in the back seat. What's black, white, and red all over? (I can't think of a good riddle )
  14. That's actually not too far from the truth considering the noise from the shows/train ride is far louder than the noise coming from the coasters. You can even sit outside on one of the golf courses nearby and hear the music coming from the shows word for word (although it's a bit muffled because of the trees). BTW: I'd love to hear death metal every night... That would be amazing
  15. Well... Technically it is a retracked version of the original Giant, just with steel track instead of wooden track.
  16. Thanks again Ace of Spades! Really appreciate it! It's a possibility, but Project 2010 isn't scanned due to it's size (14x17). Funland Amusement Park is scanned, just not sure yet... If they were available for print, possibly everyone on here would buy them in a heartbeat. Many art websites allow for prints like dA... As long as you upload a high quality image, you'll be able to get some high quality prints.
  17. Over Christmas break I managed to stumble across some Taco Doritos and Throwback Cap'n Crunch in a supermarket. Here's a link to a picture of the bag. Then in the same supermarket, another throwback caught my eye... Cap'n Crunch. Click for image... The back of the box has collector cards (for vintage cereal fans), but you'll have to be lucky enough to find throwback Peanut Butter Crunch and Throwback Crunch Berries as well in order to get all of them. While Throwback taco-flavored Doritos has caught some buzz, the interwebz have been mostly quiet about the Cap'n Crunch Throwback (at least compared to the Mountain Dew, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper throwbacks). Anybody have any more info on these? All I could find was a press release and a few Flickr images/blog posts about the Doritos and a handful of blog posts about the Crunch. I haven't seen too many of these floating around here either. I'm mainly interested in seeing how the Doritos taste considering those were discontinued before I was born. Anybody bought/tried these yet?
  18. An amusement industry with nothing but incredible coasters and Tokyo Disney Sea-style parks.
  19. The amusement industry needs less blunders and more achievements.
  20. It doesn't look that bad., although it looks like it's in much better shape here. Clicky If it were treated right, it would definitely deliver a unique ride.
  21. I'm gonna go for rides that drastically changed the industry over specific ride types that I really like. While PnP's are nice, I don't really think they changed the industry all that much to make a huge impact . Intamin Rockets - Rocket coasters really put Intamin on the map (along with hypers) in terms of extreme coasters and IMO really caused the rocket coaster boom. Before the rockets really "took off" launch coasters were either shuttles or spaghetti bowls. Rockets changed that, bringing in more unique, intense layouts and drawing more companies into the launch coaster market. Spinning coasters - like the Intamin Rocket, spinning coasters really took off in the 2000s from the cookie-cutter models first designed in the 90s. The layouts became bigger and more diverse while providing a great family ride that was inexpensive and drew crowds. With the economic downturn, these provided really cheap and inexpensive ways to bring people to the park. Eurofighters - Like the spinning coaster, Eurofighters provided a small and cheap alternative to larger, more expensive coasters, but the Eurofighter went one step beyond by delivering a thrilling ride. By making the drops steeper, other companies decided to go into the 90+ degree drop coaster concept. Like rocket coasters, Eurofighters also began morphing into more unique designs, which also drew companies like Premier and Intamin into building smaller, more compact coasters. Interactive family rides - Shooting dark rides and splash battles quickly took off, in the 2000s as more and more parks opted for building family rides over large coasters. Water parks - Water parks in general took off as a result of newer and zanier water slides. On top of that, making the water park indoors and sticking it inside of a hotel really proves to be a very popular idea. The 2000s brought a slew of brand new water slide designs like (Tornado and LIM slides) and expanded on existing concepts (Aqualoops and toilet bowls). With more parks opting for water-based family attractions (SFGAm and SDC come to mind first), water parks and water park expansions will probably continue to rise in popularity with parks. Q-Bots/Fastpasses also seem to be on a sharp rise as more and more parks realize that they can make an extra profit and guests can stand in line without literally standing in line. While these are fairly controversial, more parks will opt for these because of the potential profits they could make. The internet/viral media is definitely at the top of the list as well as more parks opt for using viral marketing to spread the rumors of new rides (Fahrenheit, Diamondback, etc..). With the rise of social media like Facebook (as well as large-scale sites like TPR), more parks are definitely gonna turn to the internet as a form of advertising. ... I know there's more but I can't think of any off the top of my head.
  22. I would go with all the typical SOB, Hard Rock Park, Astroworld/GL, SF bankruptcy thing but... Seeing all the roller coaster sites that I used to frequent in middle school as inactive shells of their former selves. Aside from TPR, Coasterbuzz, and a few sites outside of that, most of the theme park fansites that I lurked around back in 2003-2004 are dead or dying. It's kinda depressing. ** This may not be a blunder for everyone, but it feels like one for me ** And I definitely feel that a lot of brand new parks outside of China are facing blunders of their own (Universal Singapore, HRP/FMP being the obvious examples, and apparently Ferrari World according to one of the posts above). Dubailand (and Dubai in general) could also be considered a "blunder" in the sense that most of the projects planned never really came to reality/halted before they could complete construction because of the failing economy and the elaborate-ness of the projects.
  23. Broke out Pokemon White yesterday... WOW! It may beat second generation and fourth generation as my favorite! Camera isn't fixed anymore, graphics are incredible, and gameplay doesn't feel so dumbed down (which means no tutorials on how to catch Pokemon, etc). Even the intro is absoulutely incredible. This could be the best generation of Pokemon yet.
  24. I'm getting pretty tired of people (Zubat and co.) talking about RCT in the chatroom too. Plus the drama that happens in there was one of the reasons I skipped coming there for a few weeks. Somebody mentioned a separate room for RCT only not too long ago. I'm hoping something like this happens.
