  1. I'm rooting for you both Chris's! Is it blue?
  2. Aftershock - Vekoma inverted - Family park - Still operating - Built after 1990
  3. Mindbender Steel Has inversions Six Flags Over Georgia - East Coast traditional lift hill custom designed Not B&M, Intamin, or Vekoma
  4. I know it's a little off topic, but... This quote really jumped out at me. Does this mean that there could be a potential major expansion for AK in the works (Pandora/Beastly Kindgom)? I don't remember hearing discussion about that outside of the deal Disney had with the Avatar franchise. Unless they're referring to the Fantasyland expansion and the MagiClone, but those are going into MK.
  5. Spent all last night reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. That was an epic book. I'm about halfway through and I'm having trouble putting it down.
  6. One thing I did to conquer my fear was to hit the biggest, most intimidating, most intense rides first and then work my way down from there. After conquering the big stuff, the smaller coasters didn't seem as terrifying and it was a lot easier for me to do the rest of the rides. Of course this isn't for everyone, but coming from someone who has a fear of heights and drops, it definitely worked for me.
  7. My family did Carnival twice (Fantasy both times). Yes there were obnoxious people on board. Yes the theming throughout the cruise was tacky (this includes the stage props in the shows too). But I still had a great time. Service was good and despite not being able to hit Bermuda and moving through a hurricane, we still had two ports planned out for us anyway. I'd probably sail with them again (on a different ship of course) because I had a good time although I'd probably prefer sailing with another line just to see how amazing RCL/Disney/etc can be.
  8. The employee lot sits between the AB Brewery and the park to the right of the England/bus/overflow lot tollbooths. When you ride Griffon, you can see it directly in front of you.
  9. Actually Disney/Universal own the rights to most of if not all the franchises you listed above except Rango. What gets me is that Paramount isn't investing in their old Hanna Barbara/Nickelodeon franchises for this park. Especially considering Nick's popularity with the current generation of kids and the rebirth of classic HB shows like Yogi Bear and the Smurfs. The stateside parks did pretty well with both franchises (KI's especially) and it would give kids/parents a reason to visit the park (probably more than Rango would). Hell, I'm also surprised that the park hasn't considered a Top Gun invert considering all the stateside parks had one (except KI's which was a suspended and KD, which got Volcano instead). Maybe they should contact Shane for that Morgan thrill lift concept. That would be really neat.
  10. It is a shame that a lot of these potential concepts never came to life. Like I said before, if Paramount had invested a bit more in these projects, the park might have been in a different state than it is now. As much as the park didn't want to compete directly with SFDK, a major thrill ride every once in a while would've been cool for the park. I really prefer the original Coney Island theme over the movie/TV show tie-ins (as much as I do like the names - Speed Coaster is too generic for me).
  11. No track as of yesterday. If track has already arrived, it would've arrived today.
  12. Howl O Scream is in full force! I'll probably change it to Verbolten once the HOS season is finished.
  13. More HOS stuff! I had the chance to check out the rest of the HOS mazes I missed over the weekend! Bitten - 5/5 Best maze at HOS! I got some awesome scares both times I went through! Definitely the strongest of the mazes so far. There were jump scares, noise scares, and distraction scares every corner you went through and the unpredictability of the maze made it even better. It was definitely worth the wait. Fear Fair - 2/5 The only "good" scares I got out of this maze were the noise scares. Most of the other actors just stood around both times I went through. Some of the other scares had plenty of potential (like the 3D room), but kinda fell short. Surprisingly, I got better scares walking through the maze in the daytime than at night, where it was harder to see the theming/props. Catacombs - 5/5 Another strong maze, this was probably the shortest of all the mazes in the park. This maze utilized it's location really well since the scareactors were hard to see and blended in everywhere. This maze had a lot more noise scares than the other mazes with the occasional distraction and jump out of nowhere scares. Deadline and 13 were still pretty good when I went through last night (although Deadline seems to have fewer actors than I remembered). Also it looks like Stitching Time has improved as well since the actors do less standing around and more time trying to scare you. The other scare zones were about the same. --- Last note: You can get some awesome views of Verbolten right outside of Bitten. The building's wall is now a bit higher than before and you can get a general overview of what happens in part of the building. Expect track to arrive very soon!

  15. That's actually kinda unfortunate for CGA since I don't recall Paramount investing much into the parks after Boomerang Bay outside of Survivor. The park invested fairly heavily in thrill rides during the 90s and it seemed to fare well. But what surprises me more is that Viacom refused to give their parks division a chance to advertise their own movies through the theme parks. Especially since WB did it with their superhero franchises and Disney/Universal do it for all their major rides. I'm very excited to see the Speed Coaster concept.
  16. ^ I'm planning a meetup with some friends this Friday if you're interested in showing up. I'm planning on doing only mazes and scare zones though (we may do rides if it's not busy enough). Just drop me a PM and we'll work something out.
  17. Thank goodness for brochure collecting. I wouldn't have gotten some of those right if it weren't for hours of looking at that theme park brochure website. 11/20
  18. ^ Dark Side of the Gardens is the overall theme for HOS this year. On another note... Verbolten construction is going full steam now! The floor of the warehouse is now concrete and what looks like footers are being placed into the ground. The building walls are a little higher than they were last week. Decorations have already been placed in the future queue area (look toward the construction wall by BBW's old entrance). Only a matter of time before track arrives!
  19. I got to attend HOS employee night last Thursday and it was good. The park only had two mazes and one scare zone open to us, which was a disappointment, but overall I had a good time. I did some wandering around the park yesterday and explored the rest of the scare zones that I missed on Thursday. Scare Zones Scavengers – 2/5 The atmosphere both nights was pretty good, but the scares were too concentrated at the entrance and the exit. There were at least two people at the entrance and about three at the exit with one person in the middle. During team night there were only three people at the entrance. This maze could’ve benefitted from more people. Stitching Time – 1/5 This zone didn’t have as much atmosphere as the other areas and the actors really weren’t going out of their way to scare people outside of one or two jump scares here and there. The area had plenty of actors to go around, but they mainly just stood there, which was kinda disappointing. Unleashed – 4/5 One of the better scare zones, the atmosphere was great and the scares were everywhere. The camouflage actors combined with costumed werewolves was really well-done! My only disappointment is that the zone is a little small and there were tons of props, but not enough actors. Despite that, it’s definitely one of the better zones. Grin and Scare it -- 3/5 A solid scare zone, the actors were ok and there were a few scares here and there. I loved the puppeteer clown. Wandering through a few times, there weren’t enough jump scare or stalk scares to bring this up to a 5. Most of the actors just stood around doing nothing. There was a decent amount of props, but they weren’t used as well. Like it was mentioned before, this area would’ve been better if it were longer. Widowmakers – 5/5 Easily the best zone in the park. When you see streams of people running and screaming out of the scare zone (and running all over the place inside the scare zone), you’ve got a good scare zone. The chainsaws plus the fog really added a lot to the atmosphere, providing the most scares. On top of that, the actors went out of their way to scare anyone that waked by. This was also probably the largest scare zone in the park, taking up all of New France. My main gripe is that the park didn’t utilize the spiders like it could have, but that doesn’t take away from the rating because the zone was so good. Mazes Deadline – 4/5 I enjoyed this maze. Being behind a group when I went, I managed to miss out on a lot of the scares, but it was fun to watch their reactions. Actors were kinda sparse and hit-miss when it came to scares but the theming made up for it. Subway car was awesome! 13 – 4/5 I got some solid scares in here, despite having a lack of actors (much like Deadline). One of the big standout rooms was Fear of Falling. It took me a while to realize it was fake. Theming doesn’t compare to Deadline though. Overall, from what I’ve seen so far, BGW did a good job with HOS this year. Music and atmosphere all around the park was great! My only gripe is that the scares were a bit lacking and maybe the park could benefit from having a few actors wandering outside the scare zones. Most of the scare zones were too small to utilize their full potential or didn’t have enough actors jumping out at you. Still, for my first HOS, I enjoyed it.
  20. Anyone wanna do a meetup tonight? Hopefully the rain will keep all the crowds away. Just message me up and we can do all the mazes.
  21. Pretty sweet video of the park during it's construction phase in the 70s as well as old & rare Marriott-era footage/commercials. Both Great America parks have had an interesting history, one being the crown jewel of the chain and the other placed on the other end of the spectrum. Despite the kinda low quality of the footage, it's still fun to watch how the park evolved since it opened.
  22. Jersey is actually a nice state. Even the stereotypes are wrong. A good chunk of the state is forested and it has a ton of beautiful areas (even on the Turnpike). Once you get past the huge power plant in Linden, the area becomes more urbanized (which may be where the stereotypes of pollution and a red-headed stepchild to New York comes from). But it's still not that bad (it looks just like any other city in America) since that area has natural marshes that break up the urbanized sections. Hell you can get some of the best views of Manhattan from Jersey. From what I've seen, the area doesn't have as many industrial sites (mostly warehouses and storage facilities) either. New York itself isn't very polluted (in terms of smog) so Jersey doesn't seem to have that issue either. Jersey's also one of the few states where you're not allowed to pump your own gas Atlantic City is scary though. Probably one of the few places where I felt genuinely scared that somebody was gonna mug me. It didn't help that the casinos felt dated and that we parked in front of a seedy motel either.
