I just visited the park Saturday for the Christmas Celebration and it was INCREDIBLE. I took plenty of pictures, so I'm thinking about doing a trip report in the coming days; also, it depends on when my aunt puts her pictures up on her facebook (If she does) considering she has a far nicer camera compared to my iPhone, so I can download some off of her facebook. So be prepared for some iPhone shots!

The Screwed-Up Coaster Thread
boardwalkbullet91507 replied to GigaG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I thought it was pretty cool. Before RCT3 stopped working on my laptop, I'd recreate it many times and place it in many of my parks. Then, it stopped working. I thought it was an ingenious idea, just would be nicer if it were developed by a better manufacturer like Intamin. -
^^^When they built the Star Flyer at the Galveton Island Historic Pleasure Pier, it took them a million years to do the foundation work, then the tower went up practically in a day or two. Again, this ride is built 100% over water, so Six Flags has the advantage of it's Sky Screamer being on land, so foundation work should go quicker as they had a lot to do underneath the pier in Galeston as well, the tower is taller and more complex, but that should go up fast. The ride looks exciting! Although it wasn't as thrilling as the Iron Shark, the Star Flyer at the Pleausre Pier was excellent! It really picks up speed and you see the entire island all while feeling so free. I didn't feel restrained at all. Since this one is bigger I can only assume it will be greater!

Just looking at it, it looks possible the brake run is in line with the original dip to the brake run, and the tunnel slightly to the right in the picture. It doesn't look like the helix by road runner is being completely demolished. So, my instincts are telling me there just might be something at the end of that tunnel. The picture is at an angle so there isn't a safe guesstimation. After the drop off the cliff, especially since it looks like it will be elevated a little more, there should be a decent amount of speed coming out of the tunnel, too much to slow down in that small amount of space for the brake run without trimmers in my opinion.

^^^ I thought B&M too because Astroworld never had one. Well, they had an Intamin standup, but that's the closest they had. Rumored a B&M hyper in '06 but they closed the park. The land XLR-8 was on was a very large plot of land, enough for a large coaster. Although the park could have opted to keep XLR-8. In my opinion, it was aging well despite the squeaky trains in its final months.

They should attempt a Guinness World Record! I've never been to SFOT for Holiday in the Park. I have been however to the one at Six Flags Fiesta Texas and despite the fact that half the rides were not opperational, and half of the opperational rides were broken, it was decorated real nicely! Glad to see sky streamer construction is coming along!

Agreed. The park was real diverse. It had an awesome woodie, a standup, a suspended, whatever ultra twister was, an indoor, and the bamboo chute was an awesome flume! Their schwarzkopf had a freaking tunnel!I just wish they would have given it a few more years. Especially in a city as busy as Houston, that park could have have been amazing.

I figured this could have been a thread of it's own rather than on the SFAW thread. If Six Flags Astroworld wouldn't have closed, what would it be like today? What would be new? What rides would have been retired? To start off, I think that the XLR-8 would have been retired due to it being at the end of it's life-span, and maybe SWAT. Maybe new trains on Batman? I read on an Astroworld forum that Goliath at Six Flags La Ronde would have been new for 2006 at Astroworld! Ultimately, they were planning for the closure of the park rather than a new ride. What are ya'lls opinions?
