Ride Simulators?
themeparkman25 replied to Kingbooba's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
What is up with all the simulator questions and threads all of the sudden? must be a new fad. -
Well, to begin I want to tell you it is a very rewarding project when complete but can take a lot of time, money and supplies to complete. I myself have built three models so far from scratch, no knex, coasterdyamix or anything of the like. The models I have made are of SheiKra, Top Thrill and Tele2 Insane, or 1 B&M and 2 Intamins. To start the project- Research research research, plan plan plan. You can never do enough. To build SheiKra I used google earth to get an above view and then used the angle of the lift hill, the height of the hill and some trig to determine lengths of pieces on the screen. For the Intamins I used every single picture I could find as well as help from the TPR community to get designs and more. Just ask, someone has got to help. Before building- For the B&M I used a lot of supplies, and based on what you would like to do you will likely too. I went to Hobby Lobby and bought sheets of balsa wood and lots of dowels. The thin sheets of balsa wood would bend pretty well in one direction and you use that to your advantage to create the box style track. For the "how to" of build the track, PM me and I will write exactly how I did it. I used the sheets of balsa wood as well to create the ties which I then glued copper electrical wiring too (found at home depot) So overall, Sheikra took about 80 feet of wiring, 2 sheets of wood and a lot of dowels. Intamins are similar but different. I use 2 more additional rails and then balsa sticks to create the ties. I found Intamins to be easier because the wiring was a million times easier to bend than the sheet wood. During construction- I always went piece by piece in place for the B&Ms similar to real coasters which would allow me to build them to be more accurate. Start with supports, then tweak the box of the track as you see fit, then put the ties in and do that all the way for the entire coaster. The FINAL step was to put the actual rail on the track and decorate. I hope this helps and if you need any help at all please feel free to message me, I too am considering building Led Zep, but this time instead of creating a static (just for looks) model, I will be making a working model. I plan to start that model in the upcoming days! Pictures of the three models I have made, and soon to be the fourth, can be found at this link! On that thread, you will find completed pictures of Sheikra (Sorry, I didn't take pictures during construction), semi completed pictures of TTD and then a thorough storyline of the construction of Insane. There are also links to plastic manufacturers, of which I will be using to build my next model.

Don't get discouraged, it is a tough program to master. Just keep plugging away, trying different things and seeing what works and then eventually you will be a master of the program. But in the mean time keep trying. -

^That must be why I enjoyed the layout so much! It all makes sense now. -

^^Sorry for not picking up on that, I got all confused with all the jokes being slapped in this thread. In the case of desperado (a credit I missed cause of high winds dangit), the span between supports is needed because there is a huge building beneath it but I can't think of anything that large laying beneath this coaster albeit the layout isn't even known. But look at all the other coasters looping through other stuff...coughtatsu...coughsilverbullet... and they still manage to get by with normal looking supports and track. I don't see it at this point being a reason to eliminate supports to avoid obstacles beneath them but perhaps simply to eliminate supports for costs. -

I think because it was so short, multiple circuits would have been more fun. I also thought that it was fun going forward and backward in the flying position but it also lacked a unique something to make the ride really stand out. Besides that, I thought that supports were pretty good and the forces too. Perhaps if you took this concept and developed it into something bigger, you might actually have a ride design that vekoma would consider! Lovely vekoma. -

What a treat! This coaster supplied everything B&M puts into there coasters and then a few extra elements to top it off, fantastic. What I liked: -The layout. It was compact, realistic and very interactive with the rest of the track. The track had all the "necessary" (IMO) elements to be an awesome coaster but the best part was how it just seemed to run loops in itself. Great job. -The colors. I thought they were fun and bright, though not necessarily relevant to steel...on fire...with lazer snakes and horses. I had to put that in there, sorry. What I didn't like: -The pacing. If you look, the immelmann is larger than the loop with the zgr and cobra roll not much smaller. If the coaster was a hair taller it would be able to carry more speed, be a little more forceful and not slow so much on the tops of the elements. -I didn't find the transport wheels on the final brake run necessary. Since the run is a downhill grade, gravity will naturally pull the train back into the station. It's not really a critique, but more of a realistic thing to do I think. Overall this coaster rocked, by far the best one I have downloaded in awhile. Thanks for posting and can't wait to ride more of your works! -

Unfortunately I would have to disagree with you on the "perfect banking, no pumping" comment. Here is what I liked about the ride: -Launches. I love launches. But why have a brake segment lead right into more friction wheels and brakes? There is a conflict of interests. -The zgr. I love them too. Here is where I think you can improve. Please don't take it personally, it is just my opinion on the coaster. -"it only took from 10-2 to build". It showed that you spent such little time, the banking was off and there were in fact pumps. Ride the coaster in the simulator in the back and you will be able to see awkward movement of the train in addition to places of weird forces. Please take your time and really try to work the program to create a smooth and pain free experience, it really helps. -The launches. Neither of the launches are straight, so they could never in fact work on a real coaster. This can be fixed by simply pressing "I". Also, the second launch isn't really necessary because the coaster should just be able to carry the coarse on its own momentum, and to further that, the launched slowed the trained right into brakes. Just keep in mind the progression of the coaster and the speed you already have. -The pre made supports and zgr. This could be just me but I do not like custom supports because I feel they do not properly support a coaster and I don't like pre made elements because (in the case of the zgr) they are not heartlined. Heartlining would have eliminated unnecessary forces and made it actually a zero g roll. I hope you would consider this on a future coaster you may build, and don't get me wrong, I thought it was a fun coaster, but you could tell you built it in 4 hours.[/i] -

What I liked: -The size. It had the potential to have a lot of speed, fast turns and airtime! -The layout. The layout would appear to have a fun and unique set of elements. What I didn't like: -The layout. You may ask how I like and and don't like it and it is as simple as this. Though the layout has the possibility to be fast and fun, you took it down by the poor banking and awkward pacing. -The brakes. I don't know what is going on here. You had brakes in places brakes would never work. What you can improve on: -When in the simulator, watch the forces and then adjust the ride to not have awkward forces and unnecessary (or necessary) banking. Also watch for the pacing, for how large the ride is it seemed fairly slow at times. -When you say its your first wood, use wood supports instead of steel haha. I had to tease you for it, sorry. Overall it wasn't bad but definitely could use some work. Keep it up! -

^yes that is the picture that the question arises from. What you are saying is that that entire thing is in fact supports and then that tiny (it looks tiny) thing in the top right with the tiny rails is in fact the actual track? Why does the support need to be that big, MF's doesnt look that big in the pictures posted two page back. -

^^So be it, I am not debating if it is elevator or not because I am certain it is elevator. My question still stands though at where do the road, side friction and up stop wheels touch the track of the connecting bars are welded on all sides? Does anyone understand what I mean. -
^Like the mom eating the brownie scene? I would agree.

^Launch maybe? In regards to the pictures, the funky section that sure looks like it will have a catch car, but I don't see the rail the car goes on. In the old Intamin 4 bar track the rails were on the outside of the box but in this track the connecting bars attach right to the rails. I don't get it, or the straight single spine track. -

I thought the patent was only on the scoops on the train. Someone posted the patent itself somewhere on this site, if only I could find it. -

According to screamscape, which is in accordance to cincinnati.com, the women was admitted to ICU (Intensive care unit) with a broken blood vessel in her brain. That sounds pretty serious if you ask me, but I wonder if you can actual trace the root of the problem down to SoB? I mean I am sure SoB played a cause in the injury but couldn't there have been a series of unrelated injuries that built up to the injury? Either way, it will be interesting to see what happens to her, the ride and the law. -

I don't see what you are getting at by saying that. A simple video put on Intamins website doesn't "prove" or "confirm" anything. Case and point, go click on the ZacSpin coaster and it will show you the design of Kirnu and Inferno as well as a couple designs not yet built but it does not show the now open design of Tele2 Insane. My point being is that Intamin doesn't have to update their website the second a new project is announced and probably tries to keep the professional look with actual footage instead of computer generated imagery. You say "exact replica" and "completely different track" all in the same sentence, it made me laugh. And then in regards to what everyone is saying, couldn't you theoretically build a lift like Maverick utilizing LSM technology? I mean its a stretch, and something B&M doesn't have, but Intamin could feasibly do it right? -

^I think just your simulator because it worked fine for me, though I will say it was painfully slow over that hill. For the most part I would have to agree with TLM on what he had to say. I do not get at all why there are footers in the middle of nowhere that attach to supports now many feet beneath the ground (I don't even get how you did that cause whenever I terraform you can never place a support beneath the ground). Also I would have to agree with the extreme headchoppers and the appearance of other places it failed a tunnel test. Now I do think the ride was fun when you look at it for airtime and layout and it did seem to carry its speed well (minus the end). Keep up the good work, I didn't think it was half bad. -
Transformers!!! Guess who can't wait? This man. Just got to wake up, finish model of TTD, go work some rides then movie!

The time has come and it is one of my favorite times, the official release of my model! This model was started approximately in the middle of March and took until just now to complete, keep in mind I took a month or so off for finals and summer classes. This model is by far my best IMO and I think it is the most accurate one I have made to date. The model stands about 14 inches in height and close to 18 inches in length, has 1500 sticks (Intamin 4 rail style), 80 feet in solid copper wiring and almost a full poster board to create the train, buildings etc. A couple errors I know I made are that the track is not that close between the MCBR and the final break run and also that the buildings are not 100% accurate. In regards to the closeness of the track, it is an accident I did not mean to happen and tried my best to avoid happening, sorry. In regards to the buildings, there really was no pictures for me to base my buildings off of so I kind of just "guessed" what I thought they would look like based on what I saw, but you didn't hear me say that. Also, the buildings opposite the loading side connect to a much larger building that I can not and could not create, again I am sorry. I want to thank everyone for following this project in addition to all the other ones I am working (worked) on. Thanks for all the comments, critiques and ideas, I cannot wait to start my next......B&M....project. Excuse me, the future projects should be cool and if I can figure it out, working. So please, without further a due, I present to you my hand made model of TELE2 INSANE!!! VIOLA! The view from the front! The windows are crooked, the doors are funny and the coaster looks sweet! Thanks for following this project! The view from the back? I am not sure that it has a back, but this is the side with NO pictures that connects to a building. I made up my buildings The train minus restraints, I don't really know what to do for them. I couldn't make the body of water it actually lies on, but I did my best. I think in real life that first drop would be crazy over the water. Glare...lame. But it shows off the layout, the lift and the train at the end! Watch out! I think it is pretty accurate, what do you think? I am quite proud of my work.
