  1. By car you could add a couple parks and simply take the ferry or train to Calais, instead of a plane. day 1: get an early ferry or train to Calais; then drive 4 hours to Walibi World day 2: 4 hours to Heide-Park day 3: 3 hours to Phantasialand day 4: 2.5 hours to Holiday Park day 5: 2 hours to Europa-Park day 6: 2.5 hours to Walygator day 7: 2 hours to Bobbejaanland; 2.5 hours back to Calais You could even spend the afternoon at Tripsdrill, the day you're doing Holidaypark. They're only an hour apart and it won't affect the distance to Europa-Park. Do consider spending two days at Europa-Park.
  2. I'm not the only one doubting this project's location and accessibility: (and that's just for roads) I wasn't aware of the following facts, but they confirm the doubts I had... ...regarding the wallets of the locals... ...and the weather... Apparently, it will be completely indoors and pretty small. Not a true Universal Studios park, which could tarnish the brand if people visit it and think "Is this it ? Is this what Orlando is about?" Again, I'm not against a theme park for Moscow. I'm only saying Universal Studios and Moscow aren't a good match. The combination of expensive licenses with questionable locations rarely works out. Space Park and Hard Rock Park couldn't even survive a single season because of their expensive themes and rather poor location. Warner Bros Madrid has been performing far below expectations and Ferrari World is in serious trouble.
  3. I would consider Bobbejaanland instead of Walibi.Walibi doesn't have anything interesting, except for a Vekoma woodie, a 260ft Intamin freefall and a pretty good Sally dark ride. Bobbejaanland is only an hour away and has a unique Eurofighter, a unique indoor Vekoma (a clone of Opryland's Chaos), a rare Vekoma suspended coaster, a unique family Vekoma and a unique Maurer spinner. Also a couple of crazy dark rides, lots of flat rides, including a Huss giant frisbee. Two Intamin flumes, one indoor; and Hafema river rapids. Efteling is 1.5 hours from Brussels. Even Phantasialand and Toverland are reasonable to visit from Brussels, both are around 2 hours. Walibi World is 2.5 hours, which is still reasonable for a day trip. Has a 150ft Intamin hypercoaster, Vekoma woodie, an outdoor Rock'n'RollerCoaster, a Boomerang with on-board music. And Vekoma rapids.
  4. Not really, it's a very simple layout and I'm pretty sure it has proper supports from start to finish. Having said that, it does need a trench just before the loop.
  5. That's a very good suggestion. edit: If you want Olympia Looping, it'll likely be at: 13-22 July -----> Düsseldorf 03-12 August --> Herne
  6. It's the most populated city alright, but 10 million isn't that many if in the same area in western Europe (for example here in Flanders), you have 50 million people in the same radius. Then there's another very important question. How many of those 10 million can afford a visit ? Probably not even half. Finally, you're 1,500 miles away from the rest of Europe. Will they visit ? Unlikely. Then there's the climate. Winters can be brutal, so you're looking at 3 or 4 months of closure... or at least the outdoor rides will be closed. Potentially lots of maintenance costs. Can the scenery handle the freezing temperatures ? And that's ignoring the reputation of the city. Corruption, piracy, violence. Or Russia itself, always anti-America. Not a good place for an American pop culture park. The investors should consider a smaller park, something the size of a small Six Flags. Moscow deserves a theme park - and so do many eastern European and former Soviet countries - but a Universal Studios is not the right park. Not for Moscow, not for Universal.
  7. Moscow is just about the worst possible location for a European Universal Studios park.
  8. Europe is huge. Any particular ride you really like (wood, Intamin, water rides, Schwarzkopf, flat rides, etc. ?) No idea where you'll be heading ? Not even a couple possible destinations ? Will you be renting a car or travel by train ? Will planes be an option ? Anyway... great parks: Europa-Park Disneyland Port Aventura Mirabilandia Parc Astérix Efteling Phantasialand Blackpool for the ride(s): Warner Bros Madrid (Superman, Giant Boomerang) Holiday Park (GeForce) Alton Towers (Nemesis) Heide-Park (Colossos) Gardaland (Raptor, Screaming Squirrel) I would forget about everything else, until you've visited the above.
  9. No. Original themes, original rides, please.
  10. The scenery really is something else... more: Neverland Themepark Projects
  11. Beautiful shot.I hope this path will still be accessible once the ride is open.
  12. It's a bit unfair - to other parks - to classify this one as "small" though. While it really is small, literally, it's not small financially and creatively. Its parent company is an incredibly successful media company, making movies, music, tv shows and theater productions. Look at some "nicely themed stations" at their flagship park Plopsaland: Yes, even the last one is a station building. Built from scratch only a few years ago. Fun fact: not a single brick was used, it's nothing but concrete, sculpted and painted to look like weathered brick.
  13. You can hear the name at 1:13:
  14. There's no official opening date yet, but it's unlikely to be earlier than May 15.
  15. That looks incredibly cheap. Another disappointment after Green Lantern.
  16. 10th time's a charm ? Paramount Park: opening in 2009 --> cancelled F1 X: opening in 2009 --> cancelled Universal Studios: opening in 2010 --> cancelled Dreamworks Studios: opening in 2010 --> cancelled Legoland: opening in 2011 --> cancelled Marvel Super Heroes Park: opening in 2011 --> cancelled SeaWorld: opening in 2012 --> cancelled Six Flags: opening in 2013 --> cancelled Busch Gardens: opening in 2015 --> cancelled
  17. Why shouldn't they ? Concrete is cheap and it's a detail that goes a long way, especially for what will be one of the most photographed sections of the ride. (And before anyone mentions it... Yes, I know the water level is currently lower than what it eventually will be.)
  18. Concrete footers can have any shape. Some parks sculpt the actual footer, others cover them up. Kumali, Flamingoland: That tunnel entrance can be surrounded with something like this:
  19. (I hope this is hydroseeding and not spray-painted concrete ) It wouldn't hurt to plant some proper trees in this area though: A river full of cubes, why not theme them to rocks ? Floating tunnel entrance; why not extend it to the ground, with a bit of a hill around it:
  20. I doubt it will close. Worst case scenario: the park could get rid of the expensive WB theme and maybe scale down a little.
  21. GCIs simply lack the layouts for airtime. Most of them start with a curving first drop, followed by lots of twists and turns. You need straight drops for air time.
  22. Aha, but Skyrush doesn't have that. It does have a bückel, which is similar, but on a hill. It will be installed right here: The entry will go over the long, low curve on the left. The exit will connect to that piece on the right.
