Most Overrated coaster?
Thom25 replied to BlackWidow's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ LMAO - no kidding. I miss Dragster's wheels and fins. I didn't get to CP this past season, so it's been a while since riding Maverick. I think it's a great ride no matter what, but I'd prefer to keep the momentum, not stop or slow down at all and hit the second launch like Volcano. That's probably why I love Intamin so much - mid course brakes do nothing for me personally on any ride. -
Most Overrated coaster?

Well put Electerik, I've always wanted to be a lemming, while I'd also like to know thrillrideseeker's favorite coasters. (jp) I too was disappointed in some of the rides mentioned, for me anyways, I just wouldn't say "they were huge disappointments." How can Nitro disappoint, since it's probably the best B&M hyper out there - What were you expecting Matt? (no worries, it's all good, just asking a rhetorical question). The most disappointing rides for me in no particular order is Mean Streak, Hercules, Great American Scream Machine (SFGA), Wild One, and to a lesser extent KK and Maverick. Being an ol' head, I rode all of these rides their very first season - Mean Streak and Hercules sucked from day one with minimal airtime or thrills (imo), GASM was rougher than hell from day one ruining the ride imo, while KK shakes far more than TTD, probably due to the OTSR, and Maverick's complete stop for the second launch just really destroys the ride's momentum imo. I did ride the Paragon Park version of Wild One as well, and let me tell ya, it was very good it's first season when SFA was a water park, but now - it SUCKS and has been neutered having NO resemblance to the ride Judy Garland once rode for an entire day. Shame. And after some more thought, AC was a HUGE disapointment for me (anyway). With all the "hype" about it's airtime, I was hoping for more ejector air than floater. It's a good ride, just not a RoS. I guess that's what threw me off with your Nitro comment Matt, after AC, I was thrilled Nitro delivered what it did. -
Regardless of the profits Kinsel has made in the past, it does appear he still owns 1.2 million shares and is in the same boat as many on this board. It's unfortunate if you bought shares above the offer amount, but that's the risk involved with these purchases. I also think assuming the market and economy will rebound in 2010 is delusional. The recent positive indicators are due to the tax breaks on housing, and the fact most firms don't down size during the holidays. I'm waiting till February before even thinking how 2010 will be economically, but I am not optimistic. With all that said, don't forget with CF's debt load, they could have followed SF and file bankruptcy. (then you'd loose everything). I believe CF has made a strong business decision to get them through their debt obligations and remaining solvent.

Which Coaster Gives The Best AIRTIME???
Thom25 replied to Crazy4Coasters!'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
For me, it's a tie between Bizzaro(RoS) and ET - Intamin ejector air heaven! When MF is running fast, it can provide amazing floating air on all the hills, while Maverick is very impressive too - just not to the level of RoS or ET (imo). -

Interesting post Mindy, too bad it has too many holes - giga division? 240 feet tall going 90 MPH (IMPOSSIBLE assuming you're only using gravity) - $30 million price tag vs Marvericks $21m and only 100 feet taller and no LSMs (unlikely). Big beefy track like F1, yet not a giga? The Intamin website list giga and Mega lite - the coaster you are describing would fall into the mega lite category ! Thanks for playing - interesting first post (no doubt) -

No worries. YUP - slight curves means HIGH speed - psyched ! -

At least half of the pieces on-site are curved as seen on that link. Look at pic 167 and both the foreground track piece and multiple pieces on the left are all slightly curved. Due to the speed of this ride, curves will be mulitple pieces. -

Nürburgring launched coaster
Thom25 replied to thomas2's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
All this ride does is demonstrate the acceleration of a drag race. In my opinion, this ride should be called Top Thrill Dragster, since the original one does a hell of a lot more. From the video a couple of pages back, the ride starts to slow down and head back as soon as the launch is over - the test video more than a few pages back does show it flys - but the cheapest component of this ride is length, and you'd think after going through all the expense, they'd figure out a way to go around the facility, more like a real F1 race, and offer a ride experience of at least 1 minute. Am I reading the chart above correctly? The top speed is achieved 200 meters into the ride, then you start slowing down at 450 meters and then reaching the top of the turn-around at around 700 meters? I think this ride will be one big disappointment. Have they published the price yet for it's 500 meters of potential thrills ? -

WOW - Thanks for sharing the video - I get it now. So is this the magnetic braking technology they got convicted of stealing or is the final brakes? Doubt the court's decision will effect this coaster, but it may impact 2011 and beyond? -

Intamin consistently surprises me and rarely disapointed with any of their rides. I think this ride will be epic ! -

The no-limits recreation was only done to see if a giga could fit in the space cleared so far. The creator made no claims about the lay-out other than he used about 6,000 feet of track. The good news is that MFs lift appears to be able to fit into the cleared land. -
Best Re-ride Roller Coasters
Thom25 replied to AviatorCoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My best experience was at the old "Boardwalk and Baseball" in Orlando where we rode three consecutive times without stopping in the station. No one wanted to get off, so the ride ops let us ride right through the station. Second best was at SFNE with 15 rides on RoS within 2 hours ! The park was empty (obviously), but we did have to walk around (ARG). -

Well said. Any theming at an amusement park is a positive, while personally, I prefer the ride itself and experience to take center stage. -

I would love an Intamin air-time machine as well. But honestly, I'm just thrilled they are the manufacturer. B&M is nice, but Intamin really tries to step it up, and I can't wait till August to see what KD has up their sleeve. Even if it's an MF clone, I'll be thrilled, though a giga sized RoS would make me the happiest. -

^^ Yeah, it is fun to see and speculate (no doubt). Thank you. Of course your drawing is more MF, while my wish is a giga sized RoS. Counting down the days till the end of August. -

WOW - First, thank you for the link and video. I also agree that the length of time on the brake run is too long and the pacing does appear horrible. With that said, the ride isn't even open yet, so I'm sure adjustments will be made. They almost have to be made if the ride is going to have any capacity. imo.
