The GCI Mystery Project
HowieP replied to atem122's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^I'm gonna throw my hat in and also say it should be at Silver Dollar City. With Celebration City closed, SDC could use a wooden coaster. It looks like it could fit the terrain. I also agree with Robb. They should use parts off Ozark, that is, if they don't move it first. -
Kentucky Kingdom (SFKK, KK) Discussion Thread
HowieP replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I also think the writing was on the wall with the removal of Chang last year. As a memory, I used to see SFKK in the distance from the freeway on the way to Florida, but we didn't go because it was always during the off-season. Maybe the Kentucky State Fairgrounds could keep some of the rides and run it a la Pullyap Fair. Just an idea! -
Roller Coaster Haiku

Mean Streak was rough; Gwazi was worse; Need some Tylenol. -
Across from Michigan's Adventure, there's a campground being built. When it'll open (or is it??) is anyone's guess.

Actually, not quite. They technically didn't buy this coaster from Vekoma, they just relocated it. It was originally bought before the anti-Vekoma embargo, so it doesn't mean that it has ended. And yes, the Bradley Kaye kiddie coaster is still there. Ok, thanks! That makes sense (the kiddie coaster relocation).

1. What are your initial thoughts? This is a good idea. I am all for it. 2. Can you think of anything else we could be offering? As ginzo has previously stated, probably access to exclusive "PRESS ONLY" events. 3. Is this something that interests you? Without a doubt! 4. Why would you NOT be interested in this? As previously stated, priority seating is a big issue as well. 5. Any additional feedback you can give us based on the information you see here. Not at the moment.

Knoebel's allow food to be brought in though, right? -
Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
HowieP replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I will try to make it out to Holiday World next year. The only Indiana-based park I've been to is Indiana Beach, and Holiday World is high on my "Parks-To-Do-Before-I-Die" list! -
Your Favorite Ride of The 1970's
HowieP replied to duffgun's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Off the top of my head: Gemini (Cedar Point) Whizzer (Six Flags Great America) Space Mountain (Magic Kingdom) Honorable mention: Corkscrew (Michigan's Adventure)-probably the smoothest of all the corky's Demon (Six Flags Great America) Wildcat (Cedar Point) I still have to ride coasters like Shockwave, Mindbender, Loch Ness, etc. I did ride other 70's coasters like the defunct Python (BGT), Galaxi (Indiana Beach), sooperdooperlooper (Hersheypark), just to name a few. -

Calling All Coaster Enthusiasts!
HowieP replied to bigjohnson51's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Name: Howard Parks Age: 32 What is your roller coaster count? About 55 What is your home park? Michigan's Adventure What is the nearest big city? Detroit and/or Chicago What is your occupation? Custodian/Musician About how many times a year do you visit a park (including your home park)? 1-3 times on average, however in 2007 I visited six, including my home park! About how many times a year do you travel to a park that is not your home park? Every so often. When you travel do you go primarily to amusement parks or do you also try and hit other sites? Sometimes What is the farthest you’ve traveled to go to an amusement park? With my family, Florida to go to Disney, Universal, Busch, etc.; on my own, Six Flags Great America Does roller coaster time get in the way of family time? (Do you choose to miss your children’s or family’s sporting events, holidays, birthdays, etc…) One, I don't have children, and two, I don't usually miss any family functions. Do you have any other major hobbies? Making and writing music, traveling (besides theme parks), biking (haven't done it in a while, need to get back into it), cooking. Do you get feelings of sadness in the offseason? Do you even have an offseason? Do you travel during the offseason? a)I don't think about the off season b)We do have an off season (I'm in Michigan!) c)Not too often unless we go to Florida. Do you consider yourself friends with someone you met who works at an amusement park? (Or reverse it, if you work or worked and an amusement park have you made friends with enthusiasts?) I never really made friends but rode with very cool people on rides before! Would it bother you to go to an amusement park by yourself? Not really. In fact I like going by myself because you can ride rides that you normally wouldn't get to if you were with someone, although it's always fun to go with someone. Have you gone to an amusement park by yourself? If so have you ever ran into another enthusiast and tagged along with them? I've been to Michigan's Adventure, Six Flags Great America, and Indiana Beach by myself. And I really haven't hung out with another enthusiast, but not opposed to it. Do you find it easy to make friends with other enthusiasts? Haven't yet. I'll get back once I join up with a future TPR trip. How do you get your coaster news? ACE Online, here on TPR, from the major sites for various parks, Wikipedia. How many different forum sites do you regularly post on? Lost count. If there was a poll that asked a large pool of enthusiasts what their favorite roller coaster is, what do you think would be the top 3 responses be for wood? And for steel? Can't answer for everyone else but for me it's as follows: WOOD Shivering Timbers Cornball Express Blue Streak (Cedar Point) STEEL Maverick Raging Bull Montu Same scenario but for amusement parks, what would be the top 3? Michigan's Adventure (for obvious reasons) Cedar Point Walt Disney World (I know it's four parks, but as a whole) Have you ever “stole a kid” to get a credit on a kiddie coaster? I'm not that desperate! Do you cut other categories out of your budget to make trips to parks? (Entertainment, fast food, holidays, tobacco or alcohol, etc…) I usually eat BEFORE and AFTER going to a park, like Six Flags. Before you visit a new park do you research the park finding the best way to navigate the park, get the best deals, or what days to go? All of the above! Do you feel the roller coaster enthusiast community is a warm and accepting community, or a negative and discouraging community? It can be all of that in different situations especially one community in particular that will remain nameless! Theme Park Critic! Do you like to talk about your hobby with people who are not roller coaster enthusiasts? Absolutely! -

Worst Theme Park Experience
HowieP replied to deathbydinn's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
2007, I went to Islands Of Adventure. I did manage to ride Hulk and Spider Man, but then a huge storm rolled through and it rained non-stop from there. So as soon as I get back to Florida, I'm hitting IOA and praying it's a good day. -
Besides Michigan's Adventure, there are several smaller amusement/theme parks in the great lakes region. Here's a list of them: DEER ACRES AMUSEMENT PARK This one has the potential to grow. Located north of Bay City, Michigan, Deer Acres is now under new ownership as of 2008. Some of the rides they have are a Ferris Wheel, Carousel, Car Ride, and a train. Website: www.deeracres.com/ DEER FOREST FUN PARK This little park is located in Colomba, Michigan, outside of Benton Harbor. It has animals to pet, plus rides for kids like the kiddie copter ride, Tree Top Ferris Wheel, and even a kiddie coaster. Website: www.deerforest.com/ NELIS' DUTCH VILLAGE This is Michigan's oldest operating theme park. Located in Holland, Michigan, it's themed to look like an old dutch town. It has many activities and presentations. The park operates from April to October, while the shops up front are open year-round. The park has only two rides; a carousel and a swing ride. What Do You Think Of Morgan
HowieP replied to coasterfreaksrttd's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have yet to ride a Chance Morgan hyper. They look like they have some mean airtime, though.
