  1. We will always be in debt to Mr. Toomer for his contributions. RIP.
  2. I also say Inverted. I still have yet to do a Floorless, a Dive Machine, and the new Wing Rider, but I have ridden one Hyper (Raging Bull- SFGA), one Flying (Superman: Ultimate Flight- SFGA), two Stand-Ups (Mantis-Cedar Point) (Iron Wolf- Soon-to-be-formerly of SFGA), two Sit-Downs (Kumba- Busch Gardens Tampa) (The Incredible Hulk-Islands of Adventure), and three Inverts (Batman: The Ride- SFGA) (Raptor-Cedar Point) (Montu- Busch Gardens Tampa).
  3. So far I think the Schwarzkopf Wildcat, the Windstorm models, and the S.D.C Galaxi are the best.
  4. I got one. While I'm glad my home park Michigan's Adventure got a fairly "new" coaster, even a Vekoma SLC, my choice would be Cedar Fair closing Geauga Lake and leaving Big Dipper to rot!
  5. http://www.latimes.com/travel/deals/themeparks/la-trb-deja-vu-six-flags-new-england-08201119,0,2637256.story?track=rss&dlvrit=70653 The Six Flags Ride Rotation Program is back, it seems! Think about it: Chang moves from the then Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom to Six Flags Great Adventure as The Green Lantern, Serial Thriller moves from the closed Astroworld to The Great Escape then to La Ronde, now Deja Vu moving from Magic Mountain to Six Flags New England.
  6. I see they went back to the classic four-across hyper train design that they used on their hypers and hyper twisters. Anyway, I cannot wait for this to open up. Now there's three companies that builds Giga coasters: Intamin (of course), Chance Morgan (Steel Dragon 9000), and now Bolliger and Mabillard with Leviathan!
  7. Only one problem with that: You can't burn treated wood without releasing toxins into the air!
  8. Have you tried its Florida counterpart? Much different, plus it has a "launch" lift hill. And the Florida version is a full circuit coaster.
  9. I will also say Millennium Force as well. While I liked the ride when I rode it, it left me wanting more. I'll say the same for Top Thrill.
  10. I was actually gonna mention this, glad I read through the post. I would have loved for a hyper to be at MiA. Since they still have a lot of room for expansion, it's still not out of the question.
  11. Built from scratch AND at least use the rolling stock!
  12. Steel: Top Thrill Wood: Mean Streak Both at Cedar Point.
  13. Even though we here in Michigan got Thunderhawk at Michigan's Adventure, the closing of Geauga Lake is one of the most shocking. Had it stayed open, Ohio would've had a Cedar Fair Trifecta, with Cedar Point and Kings Island included. I was also shocked at the closing of Kentucky Kingdom. At least folks are trying to re-open that one. As far as rides go, I was dismayed at the removal of Horizons, World of Motion, and Wonders of Life at Epcot. While Mission: Space took over the spot Horizons once sat at, and Test Track took over World of Motion and is still sponsored by GM, Wonders of Life just sits empty, only to be opened only for Epcot's Food and Wine Festival, or as a convention spot. I'd say maybe add an indoor coaster there. Epcot is the only Disney park, of all Disney parks worldwide, to not have a roller coaster!
  14. I figured I'd start my coaster season and take a day trip down to Indiana Beach and check out Steel Hawg for the first time. It was exciting! I tried to get one of my sisters to go, but she had to work, so I took a solo flight. And here are the pics! On the way to Indiana Beach. Noting but corn fields as far as the eye can see! Tried to get a picture of the new sign, but the sun had other plans! The familiar view from the bridge. Here's the Hawg! S&S Ride in all its glory! In the words of the great Robb Alvey, "NINETY DEGREES!!!" The logo. Yeah. Some Cornball Express. Still a great ride and much better with single buzz bars. Hoosier or Rapids? Pick your poison... Time for some Hot Schwarzkopf Action on Tig'rr! These turns are excellent! Galaxi. Still holding up and still has some of the best floater air on any coaster. I literally rose up half a foot out of my seat on the big drops! "Entrance" to Galaxi. Noted! Only got to ride Lost Coaster once. They shut it down later. On the plus side, they were running both trains. Last time I was there, they only ran one, which made for extremely low rider capacity. Somewhere in that mess of waterslides, Galaxi sits. The famous Shafer Queen. Wasn't running that day, as noted by the closed sign. There were a few rides that were shut down, including Music Express, which moved closer to Steel Hawg. It is still under maintenance. Also The Artist Formerly Known As Water Swings is in that area and fully operational. Looks like they turned the old Superstition Mountain cars into a bitchin' motorcycle! A big change happened to Tig'rr since I was there last time... ... and here it is! SEAT BELTS!! Guess it's a necessary evil. Alright, back to the Hawg! Here's that world-famous drop! Here's the first of the two inversions. The other is a barrel roll/corkscrew element. Nerd shot. See that white thing behind the car? That rises up from between the tracks and releases the shoulder harness with compressed air. Here's where the Falling Star is supposed to go, eventually. Still the cheesiest attraction I've ever been on, yet, I'm always entertained! Splash Battle was also down. Dan, you're safe! New for 2011, Adventure Point! Some of the Rope Course. Here's where the Water Swings were before being moved to its current location near Steel Hawg. Now an Air Jump sits here as part of the Adventure Point expansion. Some more of the Rope Course. Here's where the Mini Golf under the Hoosier Hurricane turn used to be. They are adding to the Adventure Point area a Zip Line that starts by the suspension bridge parking lot and goes towards the old mini golf area. The other Mini Golf was also demolished to make room for the cabana's at the waterpark. More of the former Mini Golf. As I was leaving, I was lucky enough to get a photo of Hoosier going under the bridge. Hoosier is also pretty good due in part to having the classic buzz bars on their PTC's as opposed to individual lap bars. Here's one of the new ticket booths by the free parking at the bridge. And finally, here's the new wristband that we have to scan at every ride!
  15. I wouldn't say tear down, but rather re-track Mean Streak in one of three ways: Give it the Intamin Pre-Fab treatment, give it the topper track from Rocky Mountain, or give it the "Texas Giant" treatment with the Iron Horse track, also from Rocky Mountain. I would definitely give the wrecking ball to Son of Beast and replace it with another coaster; maybe a B&M floorless or another woodie. I almost said Gwazi, but they finally replaced the PTC trains with the Millennium Flyers.
  16. Thunderhawk isn't a B&M Invert FYI. It's a Vekoma SLC. I know. I just consider it an invert (B&M or not). I'll edit, either way.
  17. Here's mine 1. Montu (BGT) 2. Raptor (Cedar Point) 3. Batman The Ride (SF Great America) 4. Thunderhawk (Michigan's Adventure) (I KNOW IT"S NOT B&M BUT I'M INCLUDING IT ANYWAY!) 5. N/A
  18. Here are my candidates: For the Iron Horse Track, I also agree that Mean Streak and Son of Beast needs it, with the latter having the loop back in for a thrill. Even if its layout is boring in its current state, with what they did with Texas Giant, SOB could be an actual thrill with overbanked turns that goes beyond 90 degrees. For the Topper Track, I will also say my home coaster, Shivering Timbers, would benefit from this, as well as getting some Timberliners. Another coaster that could use it, that I don't think got mentioned so far, is Clementon's Hellcat. It would do away with the trims on the top of the first drop. Also Rattler is a great candidate for the Topper. Maybe that'll bring back the extreme drop. I'll even throw Hades at Mt. Olympus in the hat for the Topper.
  19. ^Real nice! Reminds me of Rollo Coaster at Idlewild, another small, yet powerful coaster!
  20. You are right. Just look at some of the older coasters like Blue Streak at Cedar Point. Compare it to Mean Streak also at Cedar Point. Height and size aside, Blue was probably made with Fir, and Mean was without a doubt made with pine. Blue is considered the better of the two woodies and stood the test of time since 1964. Mean, on the other hand, always needs work. This is part of the reason Mean was trimmed with brakes at the top of the first drop.
  21. Only one real big one: Shivering Timbers becoming rougher and getting trimmed at the helix.
