Which park is the biggest pain to visit?
rctneil replied to Jackdude101's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The ones I can think of are Oakwood, it's just so totally out of the way and a long way from anywhere. I agree with Rusutsu Resort, that felt a long way away. I love the journey to Alton Towers around the lanes and through the countryside. Would hate to do it on public transport though. -
Going to Japan - Some questions about Fuji-Q
rctneil replied to CrazyAlex's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would say, if you are a coaster/theme park enthusiast you should definitely give Fuji Q a visit. The park itself is rather nice and Thomas Land is one of the best I have seen, (next to Drayton Manor's in quality). The Thomas Land dark ride is very cute too and really nicely done. The majority of the rides are not bad and as said by others, the food is reasonable too, the part of the park that is bad are the operations, if you get a single drop of rain on the day of your visit, expect the majority of coasters to close instantly. When I was there, I felt less than 3 drops and Dodonpa and Eejanaika were down. Saying that, they hadn't bothered opening Eejanaika at all up to that point in anticipation of the rain! They also have the most weird of procedures and are particularly slow. Some of the incidents I saw were: . Shoes were to be removed from everyone before riding Eejanaika - NOTHING is to be in your pockets on the coasters, not even a tissue. - Watches had to be removed on Takabisha only to be placed in a locker which gave you a solid metal key on a flimsy elastic band I wore around my wrist that could do more damage if it flew off than my watch ever could do. - Not being allowed to pull down and fasten your own restraints on most rides. Ops had to do it. Overall, give Fuji Q a go. You'll never know if you don't go. The other major thing holding people back on Fuji Q is the fact that The Tokyo Disney resort is not far away and is in total contrast to Fuji Q. Hope this helps. Neil -
Going to Japan - Some questions about Fuji-Q

The pizza I had from the place opposite from the fastpass building was very decent, not sure if it was Pizza La though, I was too hungry to look at the name of the place! -
Going to Japan - Some questions about Fuji-Q
rctneil replied to CrazyAlex's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The first thing I was told about Fuji Q was not to expect or assume anything and this is true. Thankfully our day at Fuji q was made 100 times better thanks to the amazing sacrifice to the enjoyment of their day by Robb and Elissa. All credit to them. I agree with Robb about eejanaika. I do like the 4d coasters but yes they do batter you about a lot! I wouldn't say eejanaika was the worst one I've ridden but that may be because I had a very bad ride on Dinoconda where I smacked my head badly. Maybe if that hadn't have happened I would say eejanaika was worse The mouse coaster is brutal. Hold tight and brace for everything if it is a turn or not. Fujiama has a great first half and then a terrible second half. Fujiq should build a half way station on this one! Dodonpa is an awesome ride and I really enjoyed it but it does shake a lot. The hill is amazing though. Overall just try to be logical, pray whole heartedly for not even a single drop of rain and don't wear a watch! -

Thorpe Park Discussion Thread
rctneil replied to Rooey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I got to visit Thorpe Park last night as part of their Annual Pass holder Fright Nights preview event. We were let into the park at 6:30 and went off to locate the mazes. First that we came across was Cabin in the Woods, this was set in the back of the X building and was off a new style where the maze is free flowing and you can choose your route through. It was the only horror maze that I actually got totally lost. It was also very nicely themed and really enjoyed it. Secondly we did SAW Alive, after quite a long queue we survived the maze. It's practically identical to every other time it has been open but there was a lot more mist keeping upcoming scares hidden which actually improved it a lot. 3rd was the Blair Witch Project, this turned out to be located on the train route down a large uneven pathway. Not a lot happened and you couldn't see much of the limited theming due to limited lighting. I saw 1 actor jump out and that was it. Highly disappointed here as it has a huge amount of potential and I think has one of the best locations for a scare maze and would be excellent if it was well used. 4th was My Bloody Valentine. Now this maze had an approx 1 hour queue zigzagging throughout the arena. Quite a few actors kept roaming the queue area which kept people entertained and they did a tremendous job. This was also the second free flowing maze but didn't seem to have multiple routes except at one point where they split people up to go either left, down several very long and very narrow corridors or right through crawling tunnels. A lot of this maze seemed very open and scares were throughout. Overall I thought it was just average. The final maze of the night was the Asylum, this was a returning maze and surprisingly I felt it was the best. The actors were on top form and the constant very powerful strobe was extremely disorientating. It was very highly themed and had an amazing atmosphere. After surviving all the mazes we headed to Swarm and got both a forwards and backwards ride the end the evening. Overall I enjoyed Fright Nights and i'm sure Thorpe will tweak the recipes of some of the mazes to improve them for the upcoming event days. -

I would have to say it's "smoothly rough" but on the other hand sometimes you ride it and it's "roughly smooth". -

I'm surprised you found it "very smooth". I have now ridden this ride several times from the first few days it was open up until last weekend and to me, it has progressively worsened in smoothness. It's not rough per say, more rattly and a lot of vibrations. The second half cobra roll jolt is well known and well disliked. Overall I wouldn't say it's very rough but nor would I say it's very smooth. -

47 for me, seems like the majority of my count are coasters well out of the way in China and Japan. It doesn't help that I have only ridden very limited coasters on east coast US. If I did some of those parks, that number would surely shoot up. Glad to see Hair Raiser on that list as that was a surprisingly cool little ride. -
I was really surprised by how reliable it was. That thing cycled constantly all day and didn't seem to have any downtime at all. Oh and the fact that the park was empty and it has one of the most unique coasters on the planet in it. What gives?

Ok, So today was our day at Lihpao Land, formally known as Discovery World. We got to the park nice and early ready to do some morning filming with Travel Channel (only extras this time) on the SCARY VEKOMA TILT COASTER!!! Colourful to say the least ARGH!!!!!! Our carriages await I hope this thing holds! We wandered up to the station platform where testing for the day was just about to begin so we could watch the train make it's first circuit with our own eyes. It crawled up the lift as a very very slow pace and sat on the tilt section for a very long time before it slowly tilted up and dropped into the tunnel below. When the train returned, we nervously took our seats and off we went for our first rides expecting the worst. Very surprisingly we arrived back with nothing bad to say about it. It was one of the smoothest Vekomas I have ever ridden and was actually a really awesome and fun ride. TILT The loop is as smooth as the rest of the ride. Park map After a few rounds on Gravity Max (as it was very much a nice re-rideable Vekoma) we wandered off to see what else the park had to offer. We came across the parks snail themed car ride which really must win the award for best name for a snail themed car ride! S-Car-Go The other coaster at Lihpao Land was Mine Express, this is yet another Vekoma roller skater in the standard layout and is just as everyone would expect. Mine Express Is it just me or does this park seem to be very quiet? JC happy he gained his Mine Express credit The park also had one of these, but the more exciting thing is the SCARY VEKOMA TIL.... oh, it wasn't that bad. This park had a very weird metal globe shaped object on some posts around one side of the park. It was a bit of an eyesore, was very rusty and didn;t seem to ahve any use other than to be there for people to take pictures of and wonder what use it actually held! Other members of the group decided to try out the flume ride. I had already conquered the parks rapids ride and survived so didn't need to go through two water rides in one day. Wheeee! ...Skloosh! After foolishly riding the one of these at one of China's Happy Valleys, I passed by this same with the top spin Jump Robb, Jump! Close up of the bottom of the tilt lock mechanism After Lihpao Land, we headed to ShanGri La Paradise to find their roller coaster. This was a VERY VERY large place and we had a long trek to the coasters area. The walk started through a shop and entrance building, down narrow tree covered pathways, around a nicely landscaped garden and then down a huge long seemingly never ending path until we found what is more like the coaster we should have been worrying about on this day. Oh No, It's a Blizzard! They also had a Tagada, we didn't ride as it looked closed but it would never beat the craziness of the one at Floraland! After ShanGri La we drove to our hotel which was at LeoFoo Amusement Park. This was an animal lodge style hotel with 3 buildings, (1 reception/shop/restaurant building and two room blocks) and in the middle was a small savannah with animals! I think I pretty much spent the evening wandering about and taking some photos and then went to the buffet style meal with the others. Trees, in the room. What else does a Giraffe do when it rains? Yes, I see you. FOOOD Next up, Leofoo!

I would say they are similar in ride experience. They both have the indoor heartline and both have two halves. I loved the launch on Takabisha and the really long hold on the 121deg drop was really awesome, but they both vibrated and shook quite a bit but I don't find either terribly rough. Takabisha looks absolutely massive compared to Smiler though. I'm guessing it's just down to the fact that Smiler is so much more compressed into the space than Takabisha. but overall Smiler has to win as it's not located at Fuji Q! -

Fantastic report Chuck. Really had a blast those few days wandering around TDR. DisneySea really is an awesome place to just wander around and take in all the small details. I'm glad I had the bonus day to whizz round and ride all the main attractions for the first time and then could relax and enjoy it on subsequent days and explore everything that was on offer. I'm sure there is a ton more to see and do though! -

Really enjoyed reading your reports of the last few days at TDR. It's such an amazing place and DisneySea is just spectacular. Next time definitely explore the Columbia. We went on and there is T Roosevelt's Lounge and looking off the ship from the decks is really cool. It's nice to see all the little details around the parks that you saw and shared with us all. Thanks again Bill
