  1. I have to admit the main reason I stopped by was to check the progress of Zamperla's big new ride at Luna Park, Windstar. Here are some construction pictures along with the other new rides at Luna Park, Scream Zone and Deno's Lastly, storm damaged Mega Whirl is finally removed replaced with the food stands and art. Which fits in perfectly for the hispters that are starting to frequent Coney Island on summer afternoons and early evenings Lastly, New York Trapeze School is also here for the summer Brooklyn Barge replaces Surf's Up at Luna Park Sea Side Swing replaces the smaller Happy Swing at Luna Park Windstar, Luna Park's big installation for 2015. I don't know much about it. It looks like a larger version of one of their current kiddie rides At Scream Zone, they shoehorned in a Power Surge. At Deno's they added a Scrambler
  2. I stopped by Coney Island today and was pleasantly surprised that the two largest empty lots between Thunderbolt and Deno's have been transformed for eight weeks into an arts and food park. About 20 street art murals and a dozen food stands occupy the premises. The food stands are set up in converted shipping containers. I'll let the pictures tell the story as I took a photo of each menu also. The owner of this stand saw me taking a picture and I told nim I was posting it online, he wanted me to tell everyone this is not the full menu, I'll try to stop by next week to get a new picture Bar Non-bar Bar And Pizza by Luzzo also set up on premises.
  3. I like the idea, but Randall's Island is not easy to access without a car. The clientele the event is looking to attract probably are not willing to wait for a public bus in Harlem/Spanish Harlem at night. Using the pedestrian/bike walkway is a scary proposition during daylight hours, between the homeless wandering the area and the stench of urine.
  4. How does this clear up the myth? It all depends on the size/design of the make-over and the size/design of the new coaster.
  5. RaiFox - based on all you wrote Dorney Park is your safest bet to minimize crowds and driving Not sure who you are listening to, but many people who post regularly in this thread think it is the world's best coaster and have been saying it for years.
  6. Rye Playland's bumper cars are good (probably the best non-Lusse in the US), but not in the same class as Knoebels
  7. Bob - There is not a limit, as far as I know.
  8. Doubling ride capacity and attracting more interest does not increase ROI. Increase ticket and season pass sales increase ROI. It takes years to see a positive ROI from a large investment. Some might think a $15MM investment can be returned through 375,000 additional attendees paying $40 per admission. This is quite different then just an increase in attendance of 375,000, because many of the return attendees are season pass holders, who are not contributing an additional $40 every time they visit the park. Also, the whole additional attendee admission cost doesn't go straight to the bottom line, as more attendees mean more overhead for the park. But of course it is up to the park bean counters to determine all those figures.
  9. http://www.kentuckykingdom.com/comingsoon/storm-chaser/ KENTUCKY KINGDOM ANNOUNCES ITS MOST EXCITING COASTER YET! STORM CHASER TO DEBUT IN 2016 Louisville, Kentucky, July 20, 2015: Kentucky Kingdom announces the upcoming addition of Storm Chaser, its fifth roller coaster and second new coaster since the theme park reopened 14 months ago. Kentucky Kingdom is recognized within the amusement industry for its diverse mix of thrilling coasters, which include Thunder Run, the classic wooden coaster ranked among the top “woodies” in the world; T3, its newly revamped and reopened suspended looping coaster; Lightning Run, a one-of-a-kind hyper coaster introduced in 2014 and rated among the top 25 steel coasters in the world by Amusement Today; and the Roller Skater, a whimsically themed family coaster and a favorite with all ages. With the objective of offering its guests something truly unique, the park commissioned Rocky Mountain Construction to design and build its fifth and newest coaster. According to John Mulcahy, the park’s Director of Marketing and Communication, “Rocky Mountain Construction (RMC) is on the leading edge of coaster design and engineering, admired by both coaster enthusiasts and industry professionals.” Mulcahy went on to say, “What makes Storm Chaser so special is that it will have RMC’s unique and patented iBox track, which will rest on wood, creating the “feel” of a wooden coaster, but will be supported by a steel superstructure. This yields a ride that’s smooth as glass, yet also very fast and intense. The iBox track also allows for the addition of exciting elements not normally associated with traditional wooden coasters.” Some might refer to Storm Chaser as a hybrid coaster, but it’s actually an entirely new category of coaster. There are only five other parks in the world to have a coaster with the revolutionary iBox track and they are the marquee attractions at some of the largest parks in the world, including Six Flags Magic Mountain (Valencia, California), Six Flags Fiesta Texas (San Antonio, Texas), and Six Flags New England (Agawam, Massachusetts). “These other iBox coasters have gotten rave reviews and we’re very proud to be joining their ranks,” remarked Mulcahy. Storm Chaser will give our guests a coaster experience like no other in the region.” Mulcahy continued, “Storm Chaser, standing 100 feet tall at its highest point, will be the first coaster in America to feature a barrel roll drop from a 10-story lift hill, not to mention a near-perpendicular 78-degree angle of descent. But that’s just the beginning. That first roll is followed by a stall dive, a tip-out corner, airtime hills, a twisted airtime drop, and even a corkscrew, features that simply can’t be offered on traditional wooden coasters.” Mulcahy confirmed that Storm Chaser will replace the coaster formerly known as Twisted Twins. Work on this project has already begun and Storm Chaser will be ready for its first riders when the park opens in the spring of 2016. Ed Hart, President and CEO of Kentucky Kingdom, noted, “Since we’re all about creating exceptional thrills at Kentucky Kingdom, Storm Chaser fits the bill. Storm Chaser would normally cost as much as $15 million all-in, but we’re saving money by using some of the existing superstructure from Twisted Twins. However, because of the new configuration, taller lift hill, and many other innovative features, we are essentially redesigning and building a new coaster.” Hart went on to ask, “When’s the last time you dropped ten stories while doing a barrel roll?” Fred Grubb, co-founder and “chief innovator” of RMC, added, “We are thrilled to have been selected for this project and to help introduce our special brand of coaster design to Kentucky. Storm Chaser will be one of the most exciting coasters we’ve ever built!” Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay is open daily through August 11th, the weekend of August 15th and 16th. Kentucky Kingdom (only) operates as part of the Kentucky State Fair August 20 through 30 (see website for alternate operating hour and ticketing). Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay then reopen for Labor Day weekend and select weekends during the month of September (check park schedule via kentuckykingdom.com).
  10. It's pretty much a guarantee that WLKY posted information before they were instructed to by the park since KK just release a statement while I was typing this post..
  11. If you have never done a Mad House / Haunted Swing you should do Houdini's Great Escape.
  12. ^^It's no surprise that you found Hersheypark to be a better park than SFGAdv. Coaster wise it is easy to make comparisons between the parks and debate which coaster line-up is better. Zunmanjaro and SkyScreamer add to the roster if you want to compare thrills. However, most of the intangibles lean towards Hersheypark, because Hersheypark is more rounded. I'm not an entertainment person, but I do like the option to take a 30 minute break to rest my feet and be entertained (with air conditioning if possible).
  13. Based on this comment, you cut. SFStL Dorney Coney Island SFoG
  14. As I see so many people asking road trip questions and I've just planned my big coaster road trip, I'm curious what your longest coaster road trip was. Now to be an official road trip, you have to drive. So what's your longest coaster road trip. I just planned a 2,650 mile trip through the Southwest, which surpassed my previous long trip of 2,638 miles. This trip starts in SFoT and continues with Frontier City, Silver Dollar City, Joyland, Wonderland, Cliffs, Western Playland, SFFT. I just need to ride more RMC coasters. I know many TPR have planned and executed most longer road trips, let's hear about them.
  15. I wouldn't expect them to sell a Season Platinum Flash Pass for only an additional $150 when it costs $145 to buy one during a busy summer day?
  16. I merged this into a very similar thread.
  17. It already sounds like you are concerned with costs therefore if I was you I would do a lot of research myself first on the combination of air travel and rental car online. You never know when a certain route will have a good deal. I don't think there is a simple answer to your questions. You may be able to save quite a few bucks by being flexible in city you fly into, I'm assuming you are returning your rental car to the original airport. I know rentals cars in the NYC area will easily be the highest. Include ALL possible airports in the region in your search, there are many options.

  20. They have my favorite amusement park pizza at DelGrosso's, but it's all about spaghetti Wednesdays. 2015 Spaghetti Wednesday Menu
  21. So you are looking a one hotel that is near two parks located 63 miles away from each other?????
  22. This answers your question http://www.dollywood.com/Deals/Special-Offers.aspx?icid=dw-so-nav-txtlink But of course the park could change policies in 2016
