Worst Announcements for 2016?
larrygator replied to Awesomefaceninja7's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Totally agree. Its the first of its kind in the world as far as I'm aware and could produce a really unique ride experience. It's a half pipe coaster with a splash, what's there to like about? So is it really a unique world's first? In my opninion no, and it's the 3rd shutle coaster they're having. Also don't expect a lot of theming. So excuse me for not being overly excited for this ride. It could surprise me, but I'm just not expecting a lot of it. I'm more looking forward to the wooden coaster @ Plopsa, because it's a full circuit coaster, a woodie and it will be nicely themed. To close things up, if you live in Belgium, only get the opportunity to visit 1 park and you want to drive 2 hours for it, which one would you prefer next year? - Walibi (Pulsar and mediocre Vekoma and Gerstlauer launch coasters), - Plopsaland (Heidi coaster, nice theming and a very good Gerstlauer launch coaster) or - Phantasialand (Taron, Black Mamba, Chiapas, theming, etc.)? I rest my case... (not even mentioning Efteling here with it's premium line-up) You know not every new ride needs to be a 600 foot tall inverting rmc monorail track launching wing free fly aquatrax megalite coaster. If it's fun that's far enough. And where in my post exactly am I saying that I want this? This tread is for people to say what announcement for 2016 they don't like. I don't like this one, period, get over it. The park doesn't need a 3rd mediocre shuttle coaster or a 2nd mediocre launched shuttle coaster. Walibi was ones a pioneer in Europe, then went through hell after the Six Flags period and Vertigo debacle. Now they are starting to redeem themselves, however, not with this latest addition. If you want your attendance number to rise again up to the old days and achieve growth in your business; then you have to come up with something other than what you allready have. well not to poo-poo on your shoes but just that it's a shuttle doesn't mean that it is the same as a boomerang. That's a bit like claiming YOLOcoaster is like revolution and that's why they shouldn't have gotten it because it's a full circuit coaster. I can argue even if you tell me to "Get over it". Sorry but what i meant with the "600 foot tall inverting rmc monorail track launching wing free fly aquatrax megalite coaster" was that enthusiasts (you) happen to expect way too much from parks even tho what they're getting is revolutionary to about 90% of the population but they don't realize it because they'll be quick to correct someone and say "Actually *insert maker* made a ride like *insert name* already in *year* so it's not anything NEW" The purpose of this thread is to discuss announcements that you do not like, not to debate someone elses opinion. You are free to disagree with someone's opinion but you do not need back and forth arguing after each side had made their point. At that point you agree to disagree and move on. -
Where Are You Going in 2016?
larrygator replied to ytterbiumanalyst's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My no brainers pretty much stay the same every year since they require no real planning (Hersheypark, Knoebels, SFGAdv, SFNE, Lake Compounce), but I'm sure I'll make a return trip to Playland Castaway Cove this year Possible 2016 trips(in order of likeliness to happen) Dollywood(if I head down there for Smoky Mountain Christmas next month, I'll buy a 2016 Season Pass) Spring Break trip to BGT and Orlando parks Lagoon and Colorado parks Drive to Cedar Point. Kings Island, Holiday World, Kentucky Kingdom and Kennywood Week is California to hit all major parks in NorCal and SoCal -

The empty building looks like the park's old Love Express ride We encountered these at many Chinese parks. The seats are on a pole and raise up and down. I believe the knobs and levers allowed the rider to control the ride. Popular with families having small kids, but not a thrill ride. -
Good Eating Outside of Theme Parks

Although it is about 12 miles from Six Flags Great Adventure, but if your GPS has you taking the New Jersey Turnpike, it is worth your time to make a ten minute side trip to Papa's Tomato Pies http://www.papastomatopies.com/ Large Tomato Pie with a glass of Red Cream Soda -
I hit the park up this morning getting there 10 minutes after opening. The place is going to be packed tonight. I got five quick rides on El Toro (first four without leaving the train) and then did a lap around the park and used my 2016 dining pass for the 6th time this year (Nathan's two hot dogs and fries this time). I'm certainly maxing out that dining option. I took the Sky Ride across the park to sea the Total Mayhem area. Only a small building (possibly where the pool filtering system was housed) and some of the crushed up foundation remain in the old Fort Independence footprint. I finally stopped at Papa's Tomato Pies in Robbinsville (about 12 miles from the park) on the way home and understand why this is rated one of the top pizza places in the country.

Legoland Shanghai announced
larrygator replied to larrygator's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thanks or answer this question before I asked. Also intellectual property might not be protected for any of the major theme park players, but Disney and Universal movies are intellectual properties that are not commodities. -
Multiple media sources have reported this week that Merlin is expanding the Legoland brand into Shanghai. There are currently 6 Legoland parks operating and this makes four make in the works (Dubai, Korea, Japan and Shanghai) http://uk.reuters.com/article/2015/10/21/uk-merlin-ent-china-idUKKCN0SF0GK20151021 Merlin to open Legoland in Shanghai as part of China growth plans LONDON | By Li-mei Hoang A branch of the Legoland amusement park is to open in Shanghai under a likely $300 million (194 million pounds) joint venture investment by Britain's Merlin Entertainments Plc (MERL.L), announced during the state visit to Britain of Chinese President Xi Jinping. Under a deal agreed with investment firm China Media Capital (CMC), Merlin, the world's second-biggest visitor attractions group behind Walt Disney Co (DIS.N), plans to open a Legoland branch in the Shanghai area, as well as additional brands throughout China. Legoland is aimed at younger children and features rides as well as models of landmarks from around the world, made of millions of the Lego bricks whose popularity as toys has been recently boosted by the success of the Lego Movie. Merlin Chief Executive Nick Varney told Reuters the Legoland park in Shanghai would be a similarly sized investment to the $300 million parks it is building in Japan, Korea and Dubai. Merlin will also develop some of its existing brands, such as The Dungeons, which showcase murky historic events and scenes, for the Chinese market, as well new brands including DreamWorks Tours, Kung Fu Panda Adventures and others. The Merlin announcement came during Xi's state visit to Britain, promoted as boosting business ties between the two countries and promised to involve more than 30 billion pounds worth of deals. The company already operates five attractions in China including Madame Tussauds and the Chang Feng Ocean World aquarium. It had also announced plans for three further attractions to open in the next 18 months, including a smaller Legoland site.

Some of this is rehashing, but there is a little bit of new info/details on some of the rides from this LA Times article. http://www.latimes.com/travel/themeparks/la-trb-motiongate-bollywood-legoland-dubai-20151023-story.html What to expect at Dubai's 'Hollywood in the desert' theme park 'Hunger Games' Brady MacDonald A $2.85-billion project boasting three theme parks in a Middle Eastern desert will include the worldâs first âHunger Gamesâ rides along with attractions based on âGhostbusters,â âHotel Transylvaniaâ and âHow to Train Your Dragon.â Set to debut in October 2016, the massive Dubai theme-park complex will include Motiongate Dubai, featuring zones based on a trio of Hollywood movie studios; Bollywood Park, showcasing Mumbaiâs major film studios; and Legoland Dubai, catering to the grade-school crowd. The improbable notion of a theme park oasis in the desert has been contemplated for more than a decade. The first mega-theme park project â dubbed Dubailand â would have been twice the size of the 40-square-mile Disney World resort. Universal Studios, Six Flags, Dreamworks and Marvel all announced projects that eventually were put on hold following the 2008 global recession. 'Hollywood in the desert' theme park coming to Dubai The success of Ferrari World in nearby Abu Dhabi proved that the concept of an indoor-outdoor theme park set in an environment of relentless 120-degree heat and sky-darkening sandstorms was indeed possible. The new project by Dubai Parks & Resorts will open with 73 attractions from a host of international ridemakers, including Dynamic Attractions, Gerstlauer, Mack Rides, S&S-Sansei, Triotech, WhiteWater Attractions, Zamperla and Zierer. Dubbed âHollywood in the desert,â the Motiongate Dubai movie theme park will feature 27 attractions, including five roller coasters. Backed by a trio of Hollywood movie studios, the park will be divided into four zones: DreamWorks, Lionsgate, Sony Pictures and Smurfs Village. Visitors will enter through an area known as Studios Central. Geared toward tweens and teens, the Lionsgate zone will feature state-of-the-art âHunger Gamesâ attractions along with a retail store focused on the dystopian book and film series. One of the âHunger Gamesâ rides will be a launched roller coaster, according to Screamscape. Curiously, the Lionsgate zone also will include a live stage show with singing, dancing and acrobatics based on the trilogy of âStep Upâ movies. It will be interesting to see how a themed land focused primarily on a deadly teenage battle royal will mesh with a pump-up-the-party dance show. The Sony Pictures zone will include a New York City backlot highlighting the movie-making experience along with a working movie studio. The highlight of the Sony zone will be an ETF Ride Systems trackless dark ride based on the âHotel Transylvaniaâ animated films. After crossing a moat into a castle, visitors will board a family-friendly ride that travels through a surprise âBon Voyageâ party for Draculaâs teenage daughter. The Sony zone will feature a white-water rapids ride, a drop tower and 3-D theater show with themes based on âCloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,â âGhostbusters,â âThe Green Hornetâ and âZombieland.â The Dreamworks zone will feature attractions based on âShrek,â âKung Fu Pandaâ and âMadagascar,â including roller coasters, a motion simulator and a show in a 1,000-seat theater. The highlight of the themed land will be a âHow to Train Your Dragonâ interactive multimedia experience. Motiongate Dubaiâs final zone, Smurfs Village, takes kids into the giant toadstool homes of the small blue creatures. The family-friendly land will include play areas, character shows and a kiddie coaster. The massive desert complex will include two other theme parks and a central shopping district. With 16 attractions, Bollywood Park will showcase Indian movies with themed lands dedicated to five of Mumbaiâs major film studios. The Bollywood Boulevard entrance will feature dancers and street theater, while the 800-seat Raj Mahal theater will present a Broadway-style Bollywood show. Legoland Dubai will follow the model of the chainâs other theme parks, with kid-sized rides and a Miniland centerpiece made from millions of Lego bricks. The park will include 40 attractions plus a Legoland water park. Water taxis will navigate a canal running through the Riverpark shopping district that makes architectural homages to a medieval French village, mid-century Los Angeles and neon Las Vegas. A 500-room Marriott-run hotel will be incorporated into the mall. Dubai Parks & Resorts is using only about a quarter of its 2,000-acre property for this first phase of development, leaving plenty of room for future projects. The developer recently signed an agreement to build a Six Flags park on the site.

Announcing "Skyline Attractions"
larrygator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
"We got together some time ago and discussed the shortcomings in what manufacturers offer to the amusement industry â an industry we all love. Weâre here to fill those gaps. For years, we have been hearing operators asking âWhatâs new?â and âWhere to next?â Skylineâs mission is to answer these questions with new and innovative attractions for fixed-site and traveling facilities every year." Skyplex Orlando Discussion Thread

I had a little issue with this run-on sentence, but signed the petition If you are I favor of this project, and oppose corporate city buy outs, and want to start densifying the city to protect wetlands, and restrict intense development to I drive and Downtown Orlando, this would set the precedent of where the center of Orlando is, and that it is an exciting city that takes risk...the alternative is all other developers seeing proposals shot down in Orlando and deciding "let me build this in Tampa (with the beach one county over and Bush Gardens...Orlando would loose jobs, respect, tax money, and continue to spread every which way with no center to look to, to properly develop only certain areas intensely, and allow the outskirts to be peaceful. -

Bullying is using a position of power to influence others. SkyPlex, the new kid in town is not in a position of power so they are lobbying for change. Now if they were using intimidating tactics, such as threatening other businesses with harm, that would be bullying. -

Very odd that an experienced employee would take this chance! -
Also False From the beginning, both USD and USS were always designed to have Revenge of the Mummy - both with track layouts virtually identical to USF To be fair, even though USD and USS share(d) the same track layout as USF, the show for USS is pretty different than the USF version. USS isn't about riding the movie like USF is and there's a lot of things Universal improved upon. Whether or not USD was going to be the same show as USF is up in the air since it was never built, but I can guarantee the track for Dubai was not used in the Singapore version. No offense EastCoastn7, but I'm listening the guy that worked at Universal and has first hand knowledge of the situation, in this case CoasterFEV.
