  4. This is a great point. If I were you I would avoid any restaurant that accepts the dining pass (unless you plan to use one of course) and expect a ton of food locations to be closed. I strongly recommend Panda Express if you want to eat without wasting an hour of your day. I've never had issues with a bad line at Nathan's with the dining pass as long as I can wait until after 2PM for lunch. But Panda Express is always a safe bet.
  5. ^Dave - your link wasn't working, so I fixed it for you.
  6. Sunday April 2nd, 23rd and 30th. I would suggest those days if you arrive prior to opening, even if it is a little cold. Just keep in mind and be prepared that food service will be EXTRA slow.
  7. In terms of new installations: Gale Force is my choice for the second consecutive year. In terms of new coasters for me: Lightning Run (followed by StormChaser, Twisted Colossus and RMC Joker) to complete the US RMC collection
  8. ^Good luck. I really enjoyed the trip, but I never did lose the weight I gained on this excursion.
  9. ^Family B understands the busy times and will adjust and eat a little earlier or later (if the whole family can deal with it). When I was a kid me and my siblings ate when my parents wanted to, if we were hungry before then we had to tough it out. I understand the dynamics are much different for someone visiting solo but I rarely wait more than five minutes for food using this strategy.
  10. I know many of the new rides are still months from opening, and as we near the season I'll add the new 2017 rides to the needs list Let's keep The Park Index as accurate as possible, I can't do it all myself. Please submit only your own photos. Do not take them from another person or website. You can post your photos of any size in this thread or in your Trip Reports Or you can use the submission tool in the Park Index, but in that case please resize your photos to 800x600 or smaller before submitting, otherwise they are difficult for me to review and place in the Park Index. Or if you have any of those photos already in an existing PTR just send me a PM and let me know. 11. The parking lot is being paved in the three waves over a three year period. Only 1/3 was completed in spring of 2016, an additional 1/3 will be paved in spring 2017 and the final third in Spring 2018. The attached link explains the rationale. It is free for Six Flags to have it done in this manner. http://themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1707823#p1707823
  12. And quite frankly it is not surprising that those would be the last 4 in the US. Georgia Scorcher, Riddler's Revenge and Chang were always considered the 3 best. Some people complain about Chang's new life at SFGAdv but I still enjoy it. Apocalypse, I know some complain about it being uncomfortable, but I just find it very boring. I expect stand-ups to be around until at least 2025.
  13. But just this year DisneyWorld customers were complaining about supposed price gouging during a hurricane. If you look at BBB complaints for DisneyWorld you would think they have it out for their customers.
  14. Kings Dominion has 3, but had 4 at one time.
  15. Do you head to a ride near the entrance? Your favorite ride? A lower capacity ride? Or do you vary your choice? Since I usually arrive around opening, I ride El Toro at SFGAdv until it is no longer a walk-on.
  16. So your theory is that Dollywood keeps people hanging on the line to increase ticket sales. But the truth is that Lightning Rod's problems probably kept a lot of people from making a trip to the park this year.
  17. While I can't speak to the reputability of the article some might find it interesting. http://english.cri.cn/12394/2016/12/28/4261s948379.htm Only 10% theme parks in China make a profit 2016-12-28 08:40:45 CRIENGLISH.com Web Editor: Xu Yaqi 2016 has seen theme park industry in China grow in leaps and bounds, with Disneyland launching an outlet in Shanghai, and domestic brands such as Happy Valley and Fantawild Adventure expanding across into new regions. According to the 2016 report on Chinese theme parks, of the 2,700 theme parks in the country, only 10 % are reportedly making profits. 70 % are said to be in the red, with the rest at break-even point. Dai Bin, president of China Tourism Academy, says most indigenous Chinese theme parks are unable to meet public demand in design, operation, and maintenance, and are in particular lacking cultural creativity. "Theme parks in the past were no more than a landscape show. Now they have become amusement parks as the second generation, which still don't have an attractive theme and a story or logic thread to link up all elements. Theme parks don't mean you display a dinosaur statue or a Ultraman. They should be alive and interactive with visitors. People come to pursue inner values and feelings," said Dai. Industry experts observe that many theme parks mainly rely on ticket sales for their profit, providing a flimsy business, and leaving little left over to invest in new recreational facilities to attract repeat visitors. Dai Bin said many parks opened are used simply to attract prospective investors to local property developments. The parks soon stop operating once the surrounding land begins to make a profit. By then, the theme parks have done their job. Business insiders have called for the authorities to stop granting licenses for new parks for the sake of the industry. The theme park report says 64 new parks were expected to be established between 2015 to 2020, with a total investment of about 24 billion US dollars.
  18. THIS, 2 acres is not big enough for many of the coasters that people are discussing.
