  1. Maybe if you make a statue out of stone or rock it won't burn. Was this thing constructed with paper maiche and cow dung?
  2. ^That's part of the confusion and it's quite understandable. An owner/operator can name his ride whatever he wants, but that one is an Alpine Slide and not a "Coaster." Mountain/Alpine Coaster = runs on rails Alpine Slide = Sled on wheels in a trough (also sometimes called a tobaggon or luge) BobKart = Similar to an Alpine Slide (sled on wheels in a trough), but strudier cars with high chair backs and a mechanism for the ride operator to limit the top speed
  3. Scott - excellent, my life goal has been fulfilled. Since there are not a lot of chain hotels in the White Mountains of New Hampshire I stayed at a Ski Lodge, Attitash Mountain Village. I did not realize the Attitash Mountain would be opening a new Mountain Coaster two weeks after my visit, so maybe a return trip will be planned since I have a free admission tickets for Story Land. No new parks/coasters in this update just a lay of the land in New Hampshire. OK, the whole update is filler, deal with it. Lots of trees, shocking! Here is where I checked in for the night. The front desk had warning signs about black bears and what to do if encountered, but I failed to take a picture. My lodge. There must be a mountain here somewhere. My room with all my travel papers strewn across the bed. Ah oh, I forgot to eat dinner, let's try this place. Failed picture attempt of their awesome Seafood Nachos (Crabmeat, Scallops and Shrimp). In the morning I had to get my Mickey's Sweet Tea. So I stopped at a McDonald's. and it was themed to a ski lodge/resort. Awesome!
  4. To me the buzzing doesn't show excitement, it's just noise. Chants, instruments and cheering show excitement. One continuous sound shows lack of inerest in the game and interest only in the event. They might as well be doing the wave. To me there is a big difference between just making noise and being excited. In the end it's a lot better than sitting next to someone with a cowbell.
  5. The one at WISP (Maryland) also operates in the winter. As far as the defintions go I generally call them "Mountain Coasters" if they run on rail since "Alpine Coaster" can and does get cause confusion with the term Alpine Slide.
  6. Did you look at the video in first post? Even if you don't watch it and only look at the image you would have your answer. For the record a new Mountain Coaster is being built at Attitash Mountain in New Hampshire, they already have a Alpine Slide. These are fast becoming a way for ski resorts to make a little bit of revenue in the off-season.
  7. The next stop on the tour was about an hour south of Six Gun City. I had heard good things about the detail that went into Story Land in the past and was impressed with the theming I saw at such a small park. The park has lots for families to do together and even more for kids to do. This includes a very big story book area focusing on nursery rhymes and fairy tales. Many of the fairy tale exhibits include live barnyard animals, which is neat. Admission to the park was $27, and entering after 3PM gets you a return admission anytime before the end of the 2010 season. Another new park for me The park (along with Santa's Village) is pet friendly with kennels on site. You enter the park through The Crooked House. Cuckoo Clockenspiel is a very nice rendition of spinning tea cups. and these times spin pretty easily. Ride ops on the Polar Coaster wear these awesome vests. You know you want one. The station house is "COOL" also. The raft ride doesn't have any rapids but it will get you wet and possibly soaked. I love the expression on the face of the panda bear on the front of the Bamboo Chutes vehicle. There a booth where kids can get a driver's license. Tytus got one. This is not Tytus. On the SlipShod Safari you are in an animal cage and a tractor drags you through an on land Jungle Cruise with corny puns. The corny puns continue if you visit Los Bravos Silver Mine. A guide leads you through this tilt house, with a secret creaky elevator and takes you to the silver mine. Back to the Story Book area of the park You have the Old Woman in the Shoe. Chicken Little The three little pigs. and a naked Peena Puu! There's a Pumpkin Coach Ride with levitating plastic horses that take you up a hill to visit Cinderella in her castle. Although the park went a little overboard with rides on water in the same area including the Swan Boats. The Storyland Queen and The Buccaneer My battery died after this picture, but no fear. I bring to you a brand new park, an exclusive on TPR, with my next post. Stay Tuned!
  8. I'm not sure what you mean by the first part of your question. Some rides coasters have less than five piictures, some have more. We select as many quality pictures as are need to showcase each ride. We rarely put captions on the photos in the Park Index, they have to put inserted manually.
  9. Don't forget to vote this week, each and every day!
  10. Lately there have been a lot of PTRs that make people say "I want to go to that park." This will not be one of them. A couple of miles south of Santa's Village is Six Gun City. It was also Customer Appreciation Weekend at Six Gun City, so admission was only $11 versus the usual $22. Let me just say that this is a park best visited when you can get in for half price. There just isn't enough for me to justify the regular $22 admission price. There's a big sign to greet you The facade outside the park is impressive. And the entrance area looks very nice also. The first attraction is two people trying to escape from the park by canoe. Too bad they are in Lake Malaria and there is no river flowing into the lake, they are trapped. Around the corner from Lake Malaria is the reason I'm here, "The Gold Rush Express Runaway Train Roller Coaster," could be the longest name of any coaster. Cute train and forceful in the turns. I was going to ride Prospector's Plunge but a kid came off the ride drenched right before I started walking up the stairs. A really poorly acted out shootout with corny jokes. They had an authentic antique jail cell donated by the town. Cool huh, that was worth about $0.30 to see. A mini carousel plopped down next to the Carriage Musuem. I'll admit, some of the antique carriages were neat to see. In addition to a mini carousel, they have real mini horses. The map they gave when when I entered the park says there should be paddle boats here. The map was from the 2007 season. The highlight of the park was the Tumbleweed Speedway, the go-karts had a surprising amount of power. Mini Golf is included in the admission price. Bumper Boats Pony rides for the kids, although this guy would be more productive at the glue factory. Free rides on the Stagecoach. Not exactly the most authentic stagecoach I've ever seen. From the parking lot, one last shot of my fourth new credit on the trip. For the record, I neglected to show a cool little log flume for kids, because I didn't take a photo. But that's pretty much the whole park.
  11. I'm pretty sure UGA is going to try to block GT, just like Florida will try to block FSU and Miami. I think the North Carolina and the Virgina schools are the more likely ACC targets, but the SEC is going to go after the Texas and Oklahoma schools hard.
  12. You beat me to it, I was just going to make a post about the sound of a swarm. I remember hearing this same sound while watching other international matches in the past also, so I don't blame South Africa. The bees must be on the move.
  13. Regarding the picture of the Character Cafe, yes that is an original building. In the early years it was called the "Yum Yum Ice Cream Palace." Be grateful you only got a small glass of water, I can not tolerate the taste of Jersey water. SFGAdv is one of the few parks where I'll gladly pay for a bottled water.
  14. ^You really should have done the haunted house. It's just dark with tight hallways and bad props. And now I have a picture of it for the Park Index
  15. Thanks KoolKid - I just added this park to the Park Index
  16. ^Such a cynic. It's a teaching tool to teach children know how to pronounce Zulema, since they know it rhymes with creama. My apologies if the pages are loading slow because there are so many pictures on each page. I want to keep this PTR moving along so whether you are enjoying it or hating it, if you want it to load faster post a comment. That way the stops will be spread out on seperate pages.
  17. I look forward to pictures from the Destruction Derby and the sign for the Ice Mountain Bobsleds.
  18. ^In a related note, TruTV will be there to film all the line cutters.
  19. We are getting very close to making this thread extinct each week. Robb has promised to double my salary when this is complete, so please help. Remember photos must be .jpg should not exceed 800x600 (Unfortunately, in the past many people have submitted photos that are too large for TPR to use or in pdf form.) High quality photos, please (not blurry, distorted or out of focus). Lastly, we are not adding kiddie rides or major upcharges at this time, but we are at the point where family rides such: transportation rides, carousels, ferris wheels and bumper cars are being added. We are also not adding FECs (Family Entertainment Centers) to the Park Index. And if you have to ability to scan your park maps, feel free to submit those for the years that all not already in the Park Index. Of course any PTRs containing superior photos or entertaining captions and a variety of pictures including multiple rides and areas. (Not just one or two rides/attractions) are always valued. Attention has been given to every previously submitted Photo TR. Don't feel discouraged if we can't include every one. Photo in your PTRs must be downloaded onto the Theme Park Review server (not Imageshack, photobucket) for it to be included in the Park Index, that way we know a Red X will never appear. Lastly, if you have photos of a non-kiddie ride that is not in TPR's Park Index, please submit that also.
  20. ^^I knew I should some dug out some pictures of the bears to entice comments. After leaving Clark's Trading Post I drove another hour or so on the road until I arrived at Santa's Village. I had heard really nice things about the theming at Santa's Village so I had to document it for myself. I only planned to spend two hours at the park but extended the stay to three hours. This is a great park for families with young kids. Plenty of shade, ride experiences the family can share, wildlife, random activites for the kids to do and Santa. All the parks in New Hampshire had customer appreciation special last weekend so it was only $20 for admission ($5 off). The most unique aspect of this park was an activity for kids called Elfabet University. Kids explored the park to find 26 elves corresponding to each letter of the alphabet to gain a diploma. Are we there yet? Igloo on the right is the entrance, igloo on the left is the exit. Those are the regular prices. Is that a real reindeer? No, but this one is real! Check out the rack on this one! I think you are in the wrong place Mr. Easter Bunny. That's right, get the hell out of here rabbit! Where can I get some of the stuff you're on? Go to the corner of Jinglebell and Kringle and look for a guy in a red suit. Light up in the Car Wash kid, the cops won't see ya. Back to the serious stuff, the Yule Log Flume will get you wet. "Yule Log", get it? The elevated Skyway Sleigh is a relaxing way to see half of the park. Since rain was in the forecast they provided umbrellas on the Skyway Sleigh. Rudy's Rapid Transit POV Reindeer instead of horse on the carousel A unique kiddie flat ride that is like a suspended scrambler. Random playground rides in the park One of those scary ferris wheels that I won't ride. Do you know the difference between snow men and snow women? Snow Balls In the Workshop kid's can create/personalize their own toys/souvenirs. Personalized t-shirts This is the Uber Cool shooting dark ride "The Great Hum Bug Adventure". They are a couple of Hum Bugs outside the ride to practice shooting at, and they make this ridiculous "giggly" sound when you hit them. During the outdoor portion of the dark ride I snapped a picture of myself in a TPR shirt. One that I should have been wearing at Coastermania to win a Bag o Crap. Reindeer Games For Elissa - Chipmunk alert Hey kid, stop busting my balls. Back to Elfabet University This is the punch card you get to prove you have found each elf. You get a sheet of clues, but there is also a large list of clues just for photo ops. Little Timmy demonstrates how to have the elf punch one letter of the alphabet. You have to visit Emo the elf to have the letter "E" punched. And when you are done you go back to the University to pick up your diploma. and then if you are lucky, mom and dad buy you some fudge. and if you are bad you have to go the the Polar Theater and listen to this creepy Christmas tree introduce the story of this guy, Tinkerdoodle the elf. Be good for goodness sake. Pictures of additional rides from Santa's Village can be found in the Park Index. Next stop is a park I regret visiting.
  21. Boise State has jumped to the Mountain West
  22. ^You know I just spent an hour searching for a picture of this, since it was not in the Park Index. I knew one of the 25 of us that rode it had to have a picture.
  23. Fun Spot USA did have a kiddie coaster operating in 2009. I have no first hand knowledge if it is still there or not.
