TPR's EPIC Oktoberfest Trip Report!
larrygator replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
In another thread I think someone said 7.5 Euro, about $10 US. -
Just to be clear the park was founded by Leif Ericson's crew and had Norse theming, but the abandoned the park was abandoned when the Vikings left North America. That is when the Chickahominy took control. When Sir Walter Raleigh came on borad the British did away with all Norse theming as they were still bitter about being plundered so often. Not to mention that little Iceland / Greenland trick.

TPR's EPIC Oktoberfest Trip Report!

I'm sure she has heard worse from her grandfather, too. -
Thanks for the comprehensive overview. I know there are lot of PTR from Alton Towers but until I looked at this one I didn't realize how much different the park looks since I was there in 2006.

^The fact that they overpaid so badly, if their strategy was to move the rides, was bad homework. They could have picked up the park less. -

^Agreed - CF never explained their game plan when purchasing GL and how it would fit in with their overall strategy. Never before did a reigonal amusement park operator own three amusement parks in such close proximity (KI, CP, GL) that were sure to cannibalize each other. Granted the economy certainly played a factor in GL's ultimate fate but it sure seemed like CF thought they could just buy the place and make money. Clueless? Yes. -

I agree that if the park had been financially viable CF would not have closed it. However, Six Flags sold the park because they needed money to make interest payments and pay down their revolving debt. Cedar Fair was stupid enough to over a ridiculous amount of cash, which in addition to the Paramount purchase put CF in a similar debt ridden situation as SF. -

Thank you for finally posting pictures of the coasters at your home park. I really wanted to make it to Western Playland and Cliffs next weekend, but it just wasn't meant to be. -
I'm good with Wiener Prater and VidamPark pictures, I hope you enjoy Wiener Prater as much as I did. FYI - The JetStar at Vidam that was listed as under construction all summer is no longer listed on rcdb

Lagoon Discussion Thread
larrygator replied to Twister II's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Although this was announced back in May, just want to remind everyone of a new family coaster going in to Lagoon Amusement Park in 2011. It will be the park's 8th coaster. http://www.deseretnews.com/article/700027891/Lagoon-to-add-new-roller-coaster-in-2011.html FARMINGTON — Lagoon didn't have a new ride this season, for the first time in 18 years. However, the Intermountain area's largest amusement park has now confirmed that it will open a new family-oriented roller coaster in 2011. "We're calling it a family coaster," Dick Andrew, Lagoon spokesman, said. "It's certainly not a blockbuster. … But it will be a fun ride." It will be located south and east of the Jumping Dragon Ride. The new coaster will replace space occupied by two small picnic pavilions. Construction will start at the end of this season. However, he stressed that this construction is not related to or near another project at the northeast end of Lagoon. That work, to the north of the Samurai and Hydro Luge rides, involves construction of a new road to connect the Lagoon Annex building, located at the corner of Farmington's Main Street and Park Lane intersection, with the rest of Lagoon. Andrew likened the new family-friendly roller coaster to The Bat, a $3 million suspended roller coaster that Lagoon opened in 2005. Many families can't ride The Bat together because of its 42-inch and taller height restriction. He said the new ride has no height limit established yet. Lagoon already has six other roller coasters — Wicked, Fire Dragon, White Wooden Roller Coaster, Jet Star, Puff and The Bat — depending on your definition of a coaster ride — so the new one would be the seventh (or eighth, if you include the Wild Mouse ride.) Andrew said the new coaster will further enhance the family ride area of Lagoon. -

I'll add big water park expansions or major water park attractions when announced, probably not individual slides. -

Funny that you start off by saying that Valleyfair put the Fair in Cedar Fair. When I went to the park a week before you guys, I gave the parking attendant my KBF Platinum Pass for free parking. Of course Cedar Fair still hasn't fixed the problem of linking their passes at all properties in their computer system. The parking attendant tells me I gave her a pass for a different park. I explained it was from Knotts Berry Farm and she still looked confused and said that was a different company. I pointed to the area on the card where it says "Cedar Fair Entertainment Company" and she still didn't realize Valleyfair was part of Cedar Fair. Now I can understand if she didn't know all the parks in the chain, but she should have been trained to accept other "Cedar Fair" passes. But I did get a kick out of every time I tried to explain why the pass was valid she tried to scan it again. As if my words would magically make the scanning of the pass possible. -
