Moreys Piers Discussion Thread
larrygator replied to LcHg5265's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The Moreys have confirmed it is not an off the shelf model. -
An elevated light rail system on property connecting the parks and hotels west of Universal then running down the middle of Universal Blvd, turn East at Endless Summer on International Drive then south on Kirkman to Epic could solve the transportation issues and connect all properties. Assuming the state/county authorities would be willing to grant right of way to Universal for a green transportation idea.

Download the Nathan's app for coupons, you don't want to pay full price. Free street parking could be difficult to find, but you should be able to find parking meters (can pay with credit cards at kiosks), but you can also find asking lots west of Coney Island by the minor league baseball stadium. Luna Park allows you to buy an unlimited ride card or you can load credits on to a ride card. Based on the cost per ride on the cyclone and the cost per other ride, you can decide which is a better deal. Rides at Deno's Wonderland Park are not part of Luna Park, nor are a individual ride operators or the B&B Carousel. I hope that covers everything for you.

Well you certainly can not credit Six Flags with the decision that Cedar Fair made. For about $100 you can buy a pass that allows entry into every Six Flags park, the same can not be said for Cedar Fair. SF is not willing to bite that bullet but does get credit for their various upcharges in membership options.

Lakemont Park changes

For those who enjoyed Lakemont's Herschel Twister, please note it was sold to Midway Park, in additional to their Eli Bridge Ferris Wheel. https://expo.syracuse.com/life-and-culture/g66l-2019/07/0e8dd4d15f9b4/this-vintage-upstate-ny-amusement-park-is-a-treasure-trove-of-nostalgia.html -
To Cedar Fair's credit, they made the difficult decision years ago to double the price of those cheap season passes if you want to use them at all parks. The 48% loss of share price over two years in troubling, but that followed a 800% return of the prior 8 years of great growth. The stock price fluctuates over time and stand about where is did 5 years ago but there is additional value in the $3.70 per share dividend.

Anyone holding their breath regarding Six Flags in Dubai can relax. I'm sure SF is happy to have the $7.5 million https://www.apnews.com/c71008aa669c4cabaa7747da1f999aa0 Dubai firm pays $7.5M for cancelling Six Flags park plans AP NEWS July 3, 2019 DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — A Dubai firm said Tuesday it will pay $7.5 million to Six Flags after abandoning plans to build a version of the U.S. amusement park in the United Arab Emirates amid a slowdown in the economy. DXB Entertainments, which runs Dubai Parks & Resorts, said it agreed with Texas-based Six Flags Entertainment Corp. to pay the amount as “a right of first refusal.” In February, DXB Entertainments announced it was cancelling plans to build the $454 million Six Flags, citing financing constraints. The company, which owns other theme parks in Dubai, posted a first quarter net loss of $59 million and visits were down 11% over the same period. DXB Entertainments is majority-owned by Meraas Holding, a development company owned by Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Commenting on the acquisition, Cedar Fair President and CEO Richard Zimmermann said, “We are excited about the opportunity to add Sawmill Creek to our growing portfolio of resort properties serving Cedar Point, Cedar Point Shores Waterpark and the Cedar Point Sports Center, which is currently being expanded to include an indoor sports facility. Along with Hotel Breakers, Cedar Point’s Express Hotel, Castaway Bay Indoor Waterpark Resort and Lighthouse Point, Sawmill Creek’s 236-room resort lodge strengthens both Cedar Point’s and the Sandusky area’s appeal as a unique and adventurous vacation destination.” Zimmerman added that Cedar Fair plans to make the necessary investment in Sawmill Creek to upgrade and modernize its guest rooms, resort facilities and infrastructure. Improvements are projected to be completed over the next two years. Sawmill Creek spans a total of 235 acres, including 28 acres of premium Lake Erie waterfront with a marina, a half-mile beach and 50 acres of undeveloped land. Cedar Fair had previously announced the development of new hotels adjacent to two of its other amusement parks including a SpringHill Suites by Marriott at Carowinds in Charlotte, North Carolina, and a Hyatt-branded hotel on the site of its Canada's Wonderland amusement park near Toronto in Vaughan, Ontario. With the addition of the 236 guestrooms at Sawmill Creek Resort, Cedar Fair will operate more than 2,300 hotel rooms companywide. Squire Patton Boggs served as legal advisor to Cedar Fair on the transaction, while Sawmill Creek Resort was represented by MelCap Partners, LLC. -

Insane Frisbee Accident in Uzbekistan...
larrygator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm curious as to why? At least in my state the carnivals are as safe as the parks, but I know regulations vary from state to state. Because I do not believe they are regulated enough to be safe. Because I have met and talked to carnie owners and operators. Because I have read about too many carnival accidents. Because I can get the same thrills at an amusement park. Because it is more cost efficient to visit an amusement park. -
Indiana Beach (IB) Discussion Thread

Sadly, a 12 year old boy died after riding Hoosier Hurricane. It appears a pre-existing medical condition caused him to lose consciousness during the ride. https://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/ny-12-year-old-indiana-boy-died-on-roller-coaster-20190629-fupcs452rfgavaezbgduxamzve-story.html 12-year-old Indiana boy dies after riding roller coaster By Blake Alsup | New York Daily News | Jun 28, 2019 | 9:26 PM A 12-year-old Indiana boy died after suffering a “medical emergency” while riding the Hoosier Hurricane roller coaster at the Indiana Beach amusement park on Thursday. White County Coroner Anthony Deibel identified the boy as Brayden Cooper of Lafayette, Ind. He was unresponsive after the ride, but breathing when paramedics arrived around 4:25 p.m. on Thursday. They performed CPR and rushed him to a local hospital where he died, the Lafayette Journal & Courier reported. An autopsy was scheduled for Friday afternoon, but officials already said Brayden’s death was not caused by an accident or ride malfunction at the park. It’s believed that he died due to a preexisting medical condition. -

One source is reporting the location is a fun fair (but it could just be a translation error). I still will not ride anything at US carnivals and fun fairs, so I'm sure as sh!t not ride them in Uzbekistan. Germany is the only place I trust temporary rides outside of amusement parks and it's probably irrational to try them also. Reporting by The Sun as being a fun fair -
Tivoli Gardens Discussion Thread
larrygator replied to verticalzero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think it will look fine in the area by the lake and restaurants. There are lots of trees that could obstruct many sight lines as you approach. However, I don't like how it looks abandoned from outside the park. -
Tivoli Gardens Discussion Thread
larrygator replied to verticalzero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Tivoli Gardens is planning to build its first hotel, the 18 story hotel will be named after Hans Christian Anderson. This eco-friendly hotel will be the unique work of architect Bjarke Ingels and placed in the garden area of the park. The hotel's whimsical features are to include misaligned level and the heavy use of plants. https://archinect.com/news/article/150142668/big-to-design-hotel-tower-in-the-center-of-a-danish-amusement-park BIG to design hotel tower in the center of a Danish amusement park By Shane Reiner-Roth Jun 21, '19 3:12 PM EST Copenhagen is the rare city that can have an amusement park at its center, complete with anatopic pagodas, paper mâché mountains and wooden rollercoasters, and still be known as a world class destination for tasteful architecture and design. Tivoli Gardens has seen the city modernize around it since it first opened in 1843, and it is soon about to see a modernization of its own. Bjarke Ingels, the Danish architect that studied at Copenhagen's Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (KADK) and has since built projects around the globe, revealed this week that his firm will design his second building in Copenhagen in the center of Tivoli Gardens (the first being his waste-to-energy plant). The 18-story H.C. Anderson Hotel is in many ways a playful nod to the unique conditions of the amusement park in the city center. As Ingels stated, the design "attempted to capture and accentuate the character of the existing castle, creating a new typology inspired by Tivoli’s archetypical architecture. A hybrid between the garden’s pagodas, pavilions and towers, our proposal builds a bridge between the city’s history and present – the nearby Rundetårn and Axel Towers – as well as the city’s archive of unrealized dreams. Past, present and fantasy unified in the heart of Copenhagen.” In addition to the bold new hotel design, Tivoli Gardens will receive a "transformation and pedestrianization of the Tivoli Garden’s main entrance by urbanists from Gehl and consists of refurbishing and re-purposing the 1893 Tivoli Castle, renovating the 1883 Panorama Pavilion and building a new 18-story pagoda." Night time rendering of the hotel -
This is the main problem, listening to rumors. Cedar Fair is investing $150MM into CGA by buying the land underneath it. CF has also expressed it's intent to upgrade the front entrance. A major coaster is not a priority right now, but as rides reach the end of their life cycle and space is freed up there will be a plan. Joey summarized the correlation between new coasters and attendance best. There are too many variables.

Coasters having expiration dates?
larrygator replied to Samuel's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It all depends on your definition of success. Something that does not work as intended (in this case far below maximum riders per hour, hours open per season)is not a smashing success. -
I know it is unlikely to happen, but if Cedar Fair could obtain the rights to manage Moody Gardens (in Galveston) under a similar set-up as Gilroy Gardens that would make for a nice foothold in the area. It might not significantly increase attendance at either but could drive people to purchase season passes. As far as the KC location goes, it will never be re-opened as a waterpark under CF. It will be solely a real estate flip for CP. The sports park idea will not work because that strategy relays on have hotel rooms to book for these participants which CF does not have in KC.
