  1. The Boardwalk's operations are outstanding. Most of the flats are no longer than 15 minute waits even with full switchbacks. The Giant Dipper is usually 15-20 minutes at worst if they have two trains going. Undertow was by far my worst wait. The park sent off trains quite quickly, but the ride still had almost an hour wait with a full queue. I'd say you should be able to get several rides on the Dipper but Undertow could be tricky.
  2. Exactly! People have unrealistic expectations for MM, I said this a while back on this very thread and was told I didn't know enough about parks and I was making excuses for MM I went in expecting it to be similar to SFGAdv and the park was a bit better. The coasters were fantastic and honestly, all of the employees I encountered were quite sociable. The only thing that hurt the park were its lack of flat rides (I didn't have time to ride any, but they would be good for families) and the food prices like any Six Flags.
  3. I find Six Flags caters to families in the sense that they have some of the best kiddie areas I have seen at amusement parks, but they are often lacking in rides that parents and kids can ride together such as tilt-a-whirls, log flumes, etc.
  4. I enjoy visiting parks alone the first time (that way I can ride all of the credits and rides that I want) but then I like to go to parks with others.
  5. As others have said, 50 cent night will make the park quite crowded. The Big Flush is fun, but the line can be almost an hour on 50 cent night. If the line is short, you don't get too wet if you ride alone. Paratrooper and Free Fall "N" are my other two favorite flat rides there.
  6. I've done this so many times. I don't eat on coasters, but I will eat in line. Last Saturday, I wolfed down fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and corn waiting for Great America's Drop Tower.
  7. Swinging ships and Huss frisbees consistently make me feel queasy. The rocking motion does me in. Oddly enough, the frisbees that rely more on swinging than spinning (KMG, Moser, & Chance Morgan) don't make me nauseous at all and are amazing rides. Excessive headbanging can make me feel nauseous. One ride won't do it, but riding a SLC and a boomerang back to back can make me a bit sick.
  8. When I was there 2 years ago, Skyrush got stuck on the lift for 15-20 minutes but other than that, it ran without interruption all day.
  9. I was at the park this past Saturday. Crowds were fairly solid. Gold Striker and Psycho Mouse had hour waits and then the other major coasters and flat rides had half hour waits. I don't think anyone has mentioned this, but Delirium is back up and running. The floor was working all day without any issue. I really enjoyed Delirium. It had a good cycle with plenty of airtime.
  10. If you see Equinox operating, ride it immediately. Not only is it the park's most intense ride and best flat, but it has a tendency to break down. Star Blaster, Wipeout, Xtreme Frisbee, Caterpillar, and the Turkish Twist are the park's other 5 best flat rides in my opinion. Mine of Lost Souls is a solid dark ride worth checking out. I recommend riding it early in the day before the line forms. I highly recommend checking out their log flume as well since it uses its natural setting well. As for the coasters, Corkscrew should be a 15-20 minute wait. The Yankee Cannonball, even with a full queue (which is likely), is a little over a 30 minute wait. Untamed has a single rider line at the exit and the standby line is usually no more than an hour. I personally enjoy the Portofino Restaurant most, but I have heard that the seafood by the Boston Tea Party is worth checking out.
  11. I was between Discovery Kingdom or Great America, so it sounds like picking Great America was a wise choice. Other than an hour for Gold Striker, my longest wait was a half hour for Flight Deck, Psycho Mouse, and Drop Tower.
  12. Just outside California's Great America is the House of Bagels. They have the best bagels I've had in California.
  13. Shoot. That would have saved me so much time. I will definitely use that the next time. Thanks!
  14. I rode a Zipper at a county fair a few weeks ago and had to find a partner. It took 10-15 minutes, but eventually I found someone who was trying to ride alone. It's funny to see the reactions of others who haven't been on a Zipper before.
  15. I had the same problem. They also told me to take my glasses off on the Down Under Thunder halfpipe water slide. They also told me to hold on at all times. I understand that they dont' want riders to lose their glasses, but I definitely am far more likely to lose them by holding onto them.
  16. Does this sound a bit like the California Screamin' accident a few years ago where Disney modified the breaks without Intamin's permission?
  17. Hurler was amazing in 2006 when I rode it for the first time. It had just been retracked and was flying through the course. A few years ago was a different story.
  18. I was shocked to hear that they were listed as one of the friendliest parks. Honestly, the park is a mixed bag in terms of friendliest. I find most of the employees working the major coasters (outside of Batman and Pandemonium) are quite friendly. However, many of the shops and restaurants are on the other end of the spectrum.
  19. Flying Saucer Coaster This coaster just shut down last year. I'm sure these trains would be perfect
  20. Thats the nature of a single rider line. How fast it moves depends purely on the grouping in the standby line. The only predictability (or probability) lies in the configuration of the cars. With Riddler you always get on fast because there's 8 rows of 4, that leaves empty seats constantly. Green Lantern has multiple cars with rows of 2 (on each side) so theres often singles. With Lex there's essentially 2 rows of 8, which rarely leaves empty seats depending on the skill of the grouper. Where was Riddler's single rider line? I waited over an hour for that coaster while basically every other attraction was a 15 minute wait or less.
  21. Hey! Those are at the wrong park! I know; it would have been so more fitting if they were outside a certain Premier Rides launched coaster. I heard I didn't miss much when Ghostrider was down for a rehab when I was at Knott's but I still wanted to give it a try. For reference, Hershey's Wildcat with the PTC trains was one of my favorite coasters because of the intensity of the ride. I don't mind getting thrown around a bit on a wooden coaster. Headbanging is a major no-no for me though. Grizzly had one of the longer lines. While that is partially due to painstakingly slow-loading and a one-train operation, there were several families in line. It's a perfect gateway coaster for kids and I'd take that over a Zierer tivoli coaster anyday. That's why I can only go on TPR during my lunch break I felt a little weird sitting in the back of the train with a beard while the rest of the train was filled with kids. It kind of felt like walking into Chuck E. Cheese's alone to play the Mario Kart racing game (which I debated a few weeks ago until I realized how creepy that could look).
  22. Discovery Kingdom is definitely worth visiting. Superman and Medusa are a great 1-2 punch. I just recommend that you get there right at opening to avoid lines. I really like the Mauer-Sohne spinning layout. It's compact but provides a little of everything. I do want to try the largest versions in Europe someday like Winjas and Dragon's Fury. Wait no longer! I really enjoyed California's Great America. The park was clean, all the employees were friendly, the food was decent, and the ride lineup was great. Flight Deck and Gold Striker were wonderful as promised and the park also had a nice flat ride lineup. One last note, if anyone is in the area, I highly recommend the House of Bagels across the street. They are definitely the best bagels I've had since coming out to California. All of the former Paramount parks have really nice entrances, Great America included. The park struck gold with this coaster. It had the park's longest line all day. Gold Striker was a fantastic GCI and the second best wooden coaster in California after Apocalypse. Top G...Flight Deck was my favorite ride at the park. It was short, but intense. Vortex, Apocalypse, Green Lantern, and Riddler's Revenge are my four least favorite B&M's. Notice a theme? The second I sat down on the raft I had an inkling that I would get soaked. Then I saw the waterfall. This park has a mouse just like Disneyland. And more of a dog than Goofy. I liked the slightly banked turns on this wild mouse. Honestly, it was the best standard mouse coaster I've been on. Grizzly failed to live up to its reputation. It wasn't even the worst coaster in the park (I'm looking at you Vortex). It was smooth but didn't have much excitement. Demon was like an old man at a bar with game. You wouldn't expect it to be smooth, but it was. I didn't stoop this low. But I did stoop this low. Drop Tower packed a serious punch. I wish all of the S&S towers could transfigure into Intamin drop towers. I thought this was called Firefall. That's more like it. How I came off this dry, I do not know. Double dip! Planet Snoopy was quite big and had a nice mix of rides for all ages. You need to bring me your torch. Survivor the Ride, your tribe has spoken. The park also had a small water park that got pretty crowded come mid-afternoon. Always remember, YOLO.
  23. B&M- Riddler's Revenge (followed closely by Green Lantern, Vortex, and Apocalypse; do you notice a theme?) Intamin- Skull Mountain (It isn't a bad coaster, but it definitely doesn't compete with their larger and more thrilling coasters) GCI- Roar at Six Flags America (PTC trains plus that layout was quite the rough ride)
  24. I haven't been on Steel Force in almost 10 years. The last time I rode it, it was my first hypercoaster so I didn't really have much to compare it to. I found it to have tons of airtime while being glass smooth. I plan on hitting up Dorney again sometime in the next year or two and I'm interested to see how it compares to the Intamin and B&M mega coasters I've been on.
  25. Those two stations were awful and I spent longer in them than necessary as well. I'm not a fan of any uncovered station on a major coaster. I found two of these at Great America with Flight Deck and Vortex.
