  1. I got an opportunity to ride Gold Striker and Apocalypse this summer and they were far more intense than the GCIs on the East Coast. The air-time was excellent for any wooden coaster. They also maintain the beautiful layouts.
  2. Last night, Boulder Dash's ride ops got dressed up for Halloween, which was really cool. One of the girls had an amazing Freddy Kruger costume. Other than that, the best I've seen was the operator for Darien's Ride of Steel. He kept having really original and funny safety spiels. For example: "Once upon a time, there was a ride called the Ride of Steel. Everyone stuck their hands and feet outside of the train and died. The end. Keep your hands and feet inside the vehicle ladies and gentlemen."
  3. Same here. Swinging ships of all varieties consistently make me feel queasy. The smaller Huss frisbees also do it as well. Oddly enough, I have no trouble with the Kamikazes, Zamperla Hawks, S&S Screamin' Swings, or other frisbees, so I think my issue is related to the speed of the rocking motion.
  4. Phantom's Revenge takes it for me. The ride may be fairly short for a hyper, but it's a rush from start to finish and you can't beat that ravine drop. The only other hyper that I've been on is Steel Force, and it's my least favorite hyper. It's a fun ride, but the air-time isn't that wild compared to others I've been on.
  5. If you plan to ride Boulder Dash at night, definitely do the Haunted Graveyard event! That is the best time to ride it at night since the park stays open until 11 and it gets darker earlier. Definites: Six Flags New England Probables: Lake Compounce, Funtown U.S.A., Canobie Lake Park, Edaville USA, Kennywood
  6. I have to go with the zero-G roll. It doesn't matter the style of coaster or the manufacturer, as these inversions are consistently my favorite.
  7. I just got back from the Haunted Graveyard. Boulder Dash was running incredibly fast! I rode in the front twice and the back twice. Usually I prefer the front on Boulder Dash, but the back was particularly great tonight. I didn't remember getting crazy laterals and air-time on the first drop. The ride was also quite smooth despite the speed. Then the Graveyard was very well done. The entire walkthrough took nearly 45 minutes and had every type of phobia one could have. There had to have been at least 100 scare actors and several did a really good job catching us off guard.
  8. I'm only counting coasters with more than 1 car. Canada's Wonderland- Ghoster Coaster Funtown U.S.A.- Excalibur Kings Dominion- Hurler Six Flags New England- Mind Eraser Story Land- Polar Coaster Universal Orlando- Woody Woodpecker's Nuthouse Coaster
  9. I was at the Haunted Graveyard for the first time last year and Boulder Dash at night blew me away. The ride's speed feels supersonic and there are absolutely no lights throughout the course. While the ride has an out-and-back layout, it is completely unpredictable and the speed (and air-time) never lets up. Are they running two trains on Fridays this year or just one?
  10. This looks awesome! I'll actually be there a week from today for some epic night rides. I love how large the hills look without the mountain.
  11. It's the Intamin cable's fault. In all seriousness, I remember reading that higher than average vibrations were causing stresses to form in the seats. That was the initial closure that occurred shortly after the ride opened.
  12. I have a strong feeling it will be Vortex as well. In both of my visits to Great America, it was a walk-on basically all day even though the other coasters had at least 30 minute waits. I could see Cedar Fair relocating the ride at Michigan's Adventure (sorry to anyone there expecting a new coaster) though.
  13. While Hydra isn't heavy on the G-forces, I find it to be a very enjoyable coaster. The drop gives some great air-time and the zero-G roll and corkscrews are pretty fun in my opinion. The only part I'm not a fan of is when it crosses under the lift.
  14. 1900s- Leap the Dips 1920s- Cyclone (Coney Island) 1930s- Yankee Cannonball 1940s- Comet (Hersheypark) 1950s- Matterhorn Bobsleds 1960s- Bobsleds (Seabreeze) 1970s- Space Mountain (Walt Disney World) 1980s- Phoenix 1990s- Apollo's Chariot 2000s- Boulder Dash 2010s- Skyrush
  15. I had a surprisingly good visit there on Saturday. It was my first visit of the year and it was probably the best experience I've had at the park other than Bizarro Bash and my first time there. Bizarro was running as well as it has since its transformation. While the audio wasn't working, the train was flying through the course and had plenty of airtime. While it is still behind Skyrush, Phantom's Revenge, and a trio of B&M hypers in my personal rankings, it is still a fantastic coaster. The New England SkyScreamer was a lot of fun. The cycle was quite short, but the views were fantastic. I personally enjoy the Windseekers to the Star Flyers, but both are some of my favorite flats anywhere. As for Goliath, I still found the ride to be very good. It was just as smooth as it was with the old Vekoma trains. The only negative is that the train does really drag through the cobra roll during the reverse portion, but I'll take the improved reliability. This was my first visit at the park where I never saw Goliath shut down due to a mechanical issue (it closed for an hour during a nearby storm).
  16. Steel Force's ops were very good on Friday evening. I hadn't been on the coaster in 9 years and while it is easily the worst hyper that I've been on, it is still a very fun ride. It still has airtime, but the intensity is noticeably missing.
  17. I was there on Thursday and saw the clearing next to Apollo's Chariot, but I didn't notice any track there or by the brewery.
  18. I'm a fan of the Wicked Cyclone name. It's cool how that corner of the park has "New England" names. I can't wait for the official announcement to see the layout since the steeper lift is very interesting.
  19. Run to Superman immediately and get as many rides as you want right away. Within a few hours after opening, the line will be very long due to the one 12 person car and it is my favorite ride at the park. Make sure you get to ride in the backseat at least once. Afterwards, I would recommend hitting Roar since the park tends to run one train on it and since they retracked the first drop, it is a very fun ride. Other than that, the coaster lines are manageable. Medusa should be about 20-30 minutes from noon on (it gets the longest line immediately after opening), Roar and Boomerang should be 10-20 minutes, and V2 should be a walk-on or a one train wait most of the day. The only other ride that will have a long line is the Sky Screamer (40-60 minutes).
  20. I had a good time at the park yesterday. Crowds were fairly light and I got on most of the rides in 5 hours. Anaconda was still down. I didn't see anyone working on it though. The highlight of my visit had to be getting the last ride of the night on Volcano in the front seat. The second we were dispatched, it started pouring which made it an interesting ride. Speaking of Volcano, how long ago did they reroute the station and change the side that you load on? Last time, you had to wait in that long ramp inside the structure, but this time the entire wait outside of choosing a seat was outside the volcano. The trains are also loaded in the same spot that they are unloaded now instead of being done in two separate spots. Did the park do this to prevent employees from having to wheel the carts with guest items to the unload area or do you think they may be planning on doing something like Wonder Mountain? The Smurf Mountain station is still standing if they plan to use it.
  21. Nice! I'll be there later this afternoon so hopefully crowds are still fairly light.
  22. ^ Was she at least under age 5 or 6. When I was at Disney at that age, I happily did Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, and Big Thunder, but wouldn't do Tower of Terror or Honey, I Shrunk the Audience. For Tower of Terror, it wasn't the ride that freaked me out, but rather the preshow. I didn't want to get struck by lightning and turned into a ghost. Then I didn't want to grt shrunken down on the other one.
  23. Someone behind me in line for Skyrush at Hershey saw the transfer track and I just heard them say this: "Oh look, they're building a second track so the line will be shorter."
  24. I meant reliable in the sense that the coaster is a good ride. Though as much downtime as Intamins are perceived as having, I find that they are reliable outside of Bizarro at SFNE (frequent 15-20 minute breakdowns, but nothing major) or Kingda Ka.
  25. At least Flight Deck's line moves very quickly. Even when the line was completely full a few weeks ago, I only waited 45 minutes. I can't say the same for the other 3 though.
