Thorpe Park Discussion Thread
Canobie Coaster replied to Rooey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Kind of a weird question, but I'm looking at visiting Thorpe for the first time and was wondering how large their lockers are. I'd be coming right from the airport so I'd have a rather large backpack with me. -

Good to know. I'll actually be going myself a few days later and was planning on using the train too. -
Worst Ride Name

Scream isn't even the worst name in that park. That honor goes to the Helpful Honda Express. -

Currently at 48, but I should be able to get into the 60s after going to Europe for the first time later this year. I really miss Mitch Hawker's poll because of all the great coasters that opened since the last one. -

Looks pretty cool! I'm a big fan of wing seating. I'm interested to see how high and tell this version could get. -
40 *MORE* Random Questions
Canobie Coaster replied to boldikus's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
1. What is the farthest distance you've traveled to specifically visit a theme park? 13 Hours via Greyhound Bus to visit SeaWorld San Diego & Belmont Park 2. Your favorite coaster in the state you live in? Wicked Cyclone 3. Would you rather wait in line for a boomerang (at any park) or a VR coaster @ a Six Flags? If it's a good coaster, I'd rather wait in line for the VR coaster and ride it without the VR. 4. Have u ever been the only person in a train during a coaster ride? Yes, Excalibur & Rudy's Rapid Transit Coaster. I'm not counting single car coasters like wild mice. 5. What is your favorite thing to do at your home park that does not involve riding something? Canobie- Take photos & eat. Six Flags New England- Watch my friends fail miserably to win prizes at the games. 6. Better time for ERT: Early morning or late night? Night, best time for rides. 7. Name some theme park food that *sounds* gross, yet is oh-so-delicious? Fat Man on a Dirty Sofa (ice cream at Canobie, I don't actually like ice cream but this is too good not to name) 8. Name your top three "bucketlist" coasters you have yet to ride. T-Express, Lightning Rod, Outlaw Run 9. Have you ever been E-Vac'd? Did you receive anything if you did? Yes, I was evacuated from the top of the lift of Talon. I had just gotten to the park and ridden Talon once. On my second ride (up front), the lift motor died. After 20 minutes, the wind really picked up and it started to rain. They used a sliding cart underneath the lift and manually unlocked our seats one by one. As we walked down, the wind gusts picked up more and we saw a lightning bolt in the distance. 10. What is the longest length of time you've waited for a coaster? 2.5 hours for Volcano. 11. Worst flat ride ever. Name it. Sky Master (the Fabbri kamikaze that anally violated me) 12. Your favorite SWEET treat at a park that is NOT your home park. I don't actually like sweets. 13. Congratulations! After aggressively gambling on the Plinko game you finally won a front of the line pass. Which ride do you use it on? Lightning Rod, because if it were open I'd want to make sure I rode it before it broke down. 14. If you could have a lifetime fast pass to ONE attraction what would it be? Wicked Cyclone 15. Have you ever been next to someone that puked on a coaster? No, but I was underneath someone who did it on a Ferris Wheel and they nailed me. Stupid teenagers. 16. Your home park is getting a new B&M and YOU get to pick what type. Do you want an invert/hyper/dive/floorless/flyer/wing/standup? All of the above is not an option. Six Flags New England- Rip out Mind Eraser and add a B&M invert. Canobie- Most of these styles exceed Canobie's height limit (unless they go Alton Towers), but I'll pick another invert. 17. Name your favorite Vekoma. Rock 'n' Roller Coaster (Florida) 18. What water ride delivers the most unacceptable amount of wetness? Small flumes like the one at Kings Island or the one at Martin's Fantasy Island. I deem it acceptable on a well-themed flume, shoot the chutes, or rapids ride. 19. If you were able to help design a coaster would you want it to focus on airtime or inversions/positive G's? Airtime 20. Most comfortable trains/seats for a coaster are... B&M hypers 21. Choose one: Unlimited front-of-the-line access to your favorite coaster at your home park for one season OR $1,000 cash? $1,000 cash since I could use some of that for the season long flash pass at Six Flags New England and still have half left over. 22. You just got drowned by a flume/rapids/chute-the-chutes. Do you pay the $$ for the dryer machine or do you continue on with your day trudging around like soggy dog? Walk around like a wet dog even if the sun isn't shining. 23. What is the worst food you've had at your home park? Canobie- Burger Six Flags New England- Fried dough that had been sitting out and formed a layer of hardened butter over it. 24. You're at Cedar Point. You have a one hour ERT session on ONE coaster of your choice. You choose... Millennium Force 25. Favorite (non-clone) dark ride? Men in Black Alien Attack I'd go with Indiana Jones Adventure, but the layout has been cloned twice. 26. What was your favorite park you visited in 2016? Cedar Point 27. What's your current credit count? Don't be shy. 345 28. Winner winner chicken dinner! You just won a trip with hotel and airfare included. The catch is its only good for Six Flags America or Mt Olympus. Which do you choose? Mt. Olympus, I have to see if it's really as bad as everyone says. 29. What is the best Intamin coaster you have ridden? SkyRush 30. Your home park has to remove one coaster and one flat for an expansion. Which two rides would you be OK with losing? I'll try to pick two rides near each other for realism. Six Flags New England- Flashback and Balloon Race (Mind Eraser is worse but I like the Tea Cups nearby) Canobie Lake Park- Corkscrew and one of the random kiddie rides nearby 31. Song/music you've heard playing at a park that absolutely has not business being played in a theme park? Pumped Up Kicks at Dorney Park (just look what the song is about and where it was) 32. There's 5 minutes before the park closes. You choose to: Reride your favorite coaster in the park, OR get the new kiddie/junior coaster credit? Reride my favorite coaster in the park (assuming it's not a SLC or a boomerang) 33. Do you visit the waterpark if it's connected to the amusement park? If the water park has a water coaster or trapdoor slide and I have a full day, yes. 34. What 2017 addition are you most looking forward to? Joker at Six Flags New England 35. What was the most disappointing addition to your home park in the past 10 years? Six Flags New England- Mr. Six's Splash Island after they got in trouble for building the Dark Knight without a permit Canobie- Equinox (the ride was awesome but was so unreliable that it was removed) 36. The most overrated coaster ever is... Compared to other enthusiasts and me, Intimidator 305. It's a good ride, but not a 10 out of 10 for me. 37. What ride makes you wanna vomit? Swinging ships 38. What is the best consolation prize you've won at a games booth? Buddy the weenie dog after struggling several times 39. And the worst? Max from Secret Life of Pets after I thought I won Buddy the weenie dog 40. End this questionnaire by posting a picture of your favorite light package (coaster/flat). -
Disney's California Adventure While not as awesome as Walt's original park, I really do like California Adventure. I was never there before the billion dollar overhaul so I can't comment on the park back then, but I really like the oddball mix of rides and attractions that this park has. The park is very top-heavy in its attractions and a good compliment to the park across the street. There were three new things for me during my visit- Grizzly River Rapids, Soarin' Around the World, and Olaf. When I visited the park in May 2014 and March 2015, Grizzly River Rapids was closed both times despite temperatures exceeding 90 degrees. Now I know rides have off-season maintenance schedules, but coming from New England where 90 degree days constitute a heat wave, it's still baffling to me to see a water ride like that closed with those temperatures. Anyway what did I think now that I got to actually ride it? I really did like Grizzly River Rapids. The ride was very well landscaped around the mountain and the two drops were great, especially the last one with the spinners. The two drops combined with the array of rapids basically guaranteed everyone would get wet and at least half soaked. Compare that to Kali River Rapids where only the 2 people who go down the drop backwards get wet. I used the single rider line several times to ride this with temperatures in triple digits. I was also there for the first weekend of Soarin' Around the World. That wasn't intentional, rather it just happened that way. For someone who doesn't ride Soarin' too too often, I didn't notice all that big of a change. The ride was great, but I can see the change much more refreshing for someone who has ridden it nonstop since the ride opened. If you liked the original Soarin', you'd definitely like the new one as well. Then seeing a full-size Olaf character was nice since I enjoy the movie Frozen and hadn't seen the character before. Thankfully Olaf didn't melt in the heat and Frozen fever wasn't in full force, so the line was only 5 minutes. Other than that, I rode my favorites. I got several rides on the Tower of Terror (RIP Twilight Zone), California Screamin', and Radiator Springs Racers. All three are great and it's hard to pick a favorite among them. Onto the photos, many of which were taken from the Ferris wheel and had the bars cropped out (which is why they're all sized differently). California Screamin' is surprisingly hard to photograph from the ground. The coaster runs right up next to the path and over buildings which obstruct a lot of shots. Scream shields. I don't seem to see any hair time here, though this ride legitimately does have some airtime. Let's begin the Ferris wheel shots. The beautiful Cars Land doesn't seem to look right with the city behind it. Artsy shot of the entry fountain. The spinning drop was excellent. No one knew who would get soaked. Much better than Kali River Rapids. This one had more than just a single drop. Finally it's open during one of my visits! Only took temperatures over 100 degrees... Winter's a good time to stay in and cuddle. But put me in summer and I'll be a...happy snowman. Yup he does look happy. Radiator Springs Racers is awesome, but it just reminded me Cars 3 is coming out soon which isn't awesome. Tower of Terror is going to look so weird when it reopens later this year.

Favorite Log Flume

The well themed flumes are walking away with my top 4 spots and I'm really looking forward to Chiapas later this year. 1) Splash Mountain (Florida) 2) Splash Mountain (California) 3) Dudley DoRight Ripsaw Falls 4) Timber Mountain Log Ride (Knott's) Knoebels, Canobie, Santa's Village, Seabreeze, and Kennywood all have some of my favorite traditional flumes. -

You can also legally and safely experience those speeds on Millennium Force. I wouldn't be able to trust the other drivers on the road on a motorcycle, let alone if I go 90 mph on one. Fury is the only steel coaster I've ridden that's better than Millennium Force. I'm going purely off of my own enjoyment of the ride and I absolutely love the ride's setting, sustained speed, and the hills it does have are all outstanding. Sure the ride doesn't stack intense elements back to back like Intimidator 305 but it doesn't need to for me to love it. -
TOP 5 B&M INVERTED COASTERS
Canobie Coaster replied to CoasterExpert13's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Night rides are also amazing on Banshee. It takes the top spot for me. My top inverts are: 1) Banshee- Long, big variety of elements, decently forceful. 2) Dragon Challenge- Horntail- Amazing zero-G roll & unique layout. 3) Dragon Challenge- Fireball- Unique layout that doesn't let up. 4) Flight Deck- Most forceful invert and a great setting. 5) Talon- Goof first half & love the unique second half. The other inverts I've been on that miss the list are 4 Batman clones, Alpengeist, Afterburn, Raptor, Great Bear, and Silver Bullet. -
Attractions near your theme park
Canobie Coaster replied to tarheel1231's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My vote goes to Boda Borg. It's about a half hour from Canobie in Malden and it''s a combination of physical and mental puzzles. As opposed to an Escape the Room that only lasts 30-60 minutes, Boda Borg is a full-day endeavor and I believe they have 23 or so puzzles. Each puzzle has 2-4 stages so there's plenty to try and beat. -
Sorry, but you are incorrect. I know everyone says this, but it's only 99% true. The only true way to experience (the smallest of the 3 falls that make up Niagara Falls) is THE CAVE OF THE WINDS on the US side. It's awesome. Even as a local who gives zero shits about the falls I always make sure to take people to experience it. Besides that though, yes, you are 100% correct. Random video of the hurricane deck: Also, I'm sad that Katy Perry coming out of the floor at the wax museum has been replaced out front. R.I.P. wax Katy Perry. Thanks for all the reports... just starting to read through them now. I'll try to check out the cave next time before crossing the border. It looks like I'd be able to get amazing shots of the US falls like I did when I was on the Journey Behind the Falls deck getting photos of Horseshoe Falls. Funny you mention New Roc City. I took a big Northeast trip last June, and we stayed in a hotel in New Rochelle in between visiting SFNE and New York City, and I had no idea the place existed. We were driving up to the hotel, and I said "hold up... that's an S&S tower!" It was a pretty standard one with only one launch, but it was super fun since I had absolutely no idea it existed. Definitely a fun surprise of the trip. Really enjoying the trip report! I visited there almost 10 years ago on the way home from Playland since I saw a TR with that tower. Unfortunately it was closed due to rain when I visited. Could you get good views of NYC from the top?
-
That place at New Roc City (Fun Fuzion) has some larger rides like the S&S Space Shot that shoots out of the building so the size of the building doesn't necessarily constrain the place. However, iPlay America is in a strip mall so not sure if they could do that even if they wanted to invest in larger attractions such as that.

That does shock me. When I visited in October, Dragon Fire was sending out empty trains while Leviathan and Behemoth both had full trains. Dragon Fire does have a shorter ride time so it probably did send more laps though. I just question how many were full if the park wasn't crowded.
