Photo TR: Rainbow Magicland
Mechanic replied to Six Flags Enthuseast's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Enthuseast, I have to say, your TRs have come a long way. The pictures were pretty good quality, and were mostly relevant. Thanks to you, and your mom and dad, for bringing us a view of this new park. -
Best & Worst Refurbished Coasters
Mechanic replied to sportscapper's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Superman: Escape From Krypton should make the list of coasters significantly improved by refurbishment. -

Theme park planking
Mechanic replied to ambe_bambe's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I just asked my 3 teenage kids if they knew what "planking" was. None of them did. I feel a little proud of myself as a parent right at this moment. -
How is the NFL lockout continuing good news for CGA? The NFL isn't going to dry up and blow away. The stadium issue will still have to be dealt with sooner or later. As long as it's still looming over CGA, all it does is continue to provide uncertainty that will make it highly unlikely that Cedar Fair will invest significantly in the park unless the issue is resolved in their favor.

Nürburgring launched coaster
Mechanic replied to thomas2's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It seems odd that this ride is having such tremendous difficulty, particularly when the compressed air propulsion systems of the S&S drop towers seems so amazingly reliable. I fully realize that the launch systems for their coasters and drop towers are not the same, but S&S has made a name for themselves with compressed air as a power source. The engineering behind these types of systems should be nearly fail-safe in the modern world of computerized material stress analysis, and few companies out there would know more about how to do it than S&S. I do feel bad for those at the company and the track that are suffering through what must be a huge disappointment. Although I'm not one to believe in curses, this ride almost does seem cursed. -

Gröna Lund Discussion Thread

Those twins are epic. I'm jealous of anyone that gets "ERT" with them. The coaster looks great too. I'm really loving the design of the Timberliner trains. Just curious... How "squishy" is the rubber (I'm assuming it's rubber since it looks like it is) that the seats and restraints are made of? -
I really do like Kong at SFDK. I know most people, including most of my family, hate it, but it's never given me a bad ride. I think the standard SLC packs a lot of intensity into a well thought out, if not ideally executed, ride layout. I also don't really have anything against Vekoma Boomerangs. I fully understand that Vekomas, in general, are regarded with disdain. I've just never found a legitimate reason to not like them.

*** THE BEBES *** Rainbow Magicland ITALY TR
Mechanic replied to The Bebes's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
It's nice to see your report Bebes! Sorry I didn't say "hi" at WCB. Our paths didn't cross during the day, except at lunch, and you two were fairly into a conversation with a few other people at the time. I didn't want to be rude and butt in, so I figured I'd just run into you later, but never did. -
I wonder where it would end up on Mitch's poll. Maybe DEAD last?

Grim Reaper: The Ride

Yes, but not intentionally. (riding a motorcycle at freeway speeds pretty much guarantees that you'll eat a bug sooner or later) Do you have any other name for airtime? (my kids used to call it "belly tickles" when they were little)

Mitch Hawker 2010 poll
Mechanic replied to Skycoastin Steve's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I just realized that I completely forgot to place my favorite wooden coaster on the steel ballot. Since I don't have that many coaster credits anyway, hopefully it won't matter that much. Honestly, it was just a mistake and I wasn't trying to skew the poll. You know how TPR gets accused of that... -
No, I don't drink coffee. Besides, Starbucks is probably what made the zombie into a zombie. Do you like coffee?
