  1. I was there earlier this year and Nicollah is correct, they are about $3.50 for a bottle of soda from a machine. I think if it is really hot/humid out, the drink wristband would be well worth it. I know we personally have gotten our money's worth out of our pass already: KI 2x, CP 3x, Dorney 1x, & Canada's Wonderland 1x. Plus the season is not over yet...
  2. Yep...me too. I guessed 9 duckies because I missed #5 on the Great Bear sign.
  3. Hi Big Mike...Pam here. I counted 9 duckies. The park looked PACKED especially with that concert the same day, but it looks like you still managed to get all your rides in. Great TR!
  4. Oh, yes - many times!!! We've been going there since the early 1990's. Never tried the black cherry ice cream though. We were going to have the waffles and ice cream from the round stand near the Haunted House, but we'll have to wait till next time!!!!
  5. That was us!!!! We had just made our purchases in the gift shop and were headed to get ice cream when the power went off. Luckily, it was the end of the day and we were on our way out anyway. I agree about it being creepy leaving the park in the dark, but it was pretty orderly. Was there ever any official word on what caused the outage? There was no storm happening at that time either. Someone at our hotel said they were there and that they heard a squirrel was in the transformer and chewed the wire (??? I know, real reliable source!!!! LOL!!!)
  6. Note that this says each train holds 32 people. That is exactly the same number of people a train on Behemoth holds (which is 4 less than the standard B&M train) My guess is that it will be like Behemoth (and that is certainly NOT a bad thing!!!!)
  7. They figured out what the problem was and Mary Lou was just on the 6:00 news. The ride has reopened as of 5:00pm today A speck of debris, no bigger than a grain of sand, got lodged in the braking mechanism and is what caused the problem. http://kdka.com/local/Kennywood.King.Kahuna.2.765544.html
  8. CF was working on the Bobs. I did not like riding it during the SF era, but CF was returning it back to a good ride. If I remember correctly, they were working on retracking a different section every year, until the incident after Coastermania last year. Sad, they only had 1 small section to go and the whole ride would have been retracked.
  9. Warning signs are there for a reason. I actually reported someone for breaking through a fence at El Toro SFNJ earlier this month. I was walking around shooting video/pictures and saw 2 girls breaking off pieces of a fence and crawl through it (this was by the lift hill). I passed a park employee on my way over to the ride entrance, where there was usually a security guard. The employee said they saw the girls breaking through the fence and had already radioed security. The park employee passed by me a few minutes later after security arrived and said "yep, we got them". They were inside the ride area, probably trying to retrieve something they lost. Whatever you lost, isn't worth losing your life
  10. I think I would agree...just another thing to carry around. Would you have to put it in a locker or would it be considered a loose article? A regular old park map has worked fine for years for us (or asking a park employee for directions)! On the other hand, if it could tell me ride wait times, (Or like fast pass availability) make a ride reservation, or make a dining reservation - I would reconsider my stance!
  11. If you'd like to see and hear exactly what was said about the coaster being offered to ACE and other groups, here you go http://www.storytellersmediagroup.com/BigDipperAuction/BIG_DIPPER_AUCTION_20080617.wmv
  12. Sad.....yeti is crying GL was a very nice park. Under SF, it was packed to the gills. Under CF, it was never very crowded. CF cleaned it up and made it very enjoyable. I will always have my pictures and memories of the park. I considering going to the auction, but knew I wouldn't be buying anything. Guess I made the right choice by saving the gas and staying home. Seems like the auctioneers would've made a lot more money by putting the signs in lots. What other company is going to want a bunch of GL signs!!!!
  13. Hi Big Mike!!! This is Pam. I am honored to have my picture with you posted on the BMRS. (although not one of my best pictures...guess that's what happens when you get up at 4:00am!!! LOL!!) Congrats again on #600!!! Here's to many more!!!!
  14. Hi Big Mike!!! Nice to finally meet you yesterday!!! (This is Pam, you took a picture with me at the Maverick exit) I saw you at Dorney last week, but you were so busy I didn't get a chance to say hi!!! (too many adoring Big Mike fans!!! LOL!!!) This was the first time me or anyone in my group went to Coastermania. The park really went above and beyond giving all attendees a free hoodie, the cup with free refills all day, and the free taffy and candy apples at lunch!!! I never expected all this in addition to the ERT. Just a wonderful day overall!!!
  15. Yes, the preshow is before the ride. It is on the first floor of the building. After the preshow room, you go upstairs to actually get on the ride. There is also an elevator for handicapped access (one problem that they had with the old Gold Rusher was that there was no handicapped access) As for stuff jumping out, there are some things which are animated (CG) and some moving figures, but nothing really "jumps" at you or startles you unless you are shooting targets and activate something. Ex. There is a birthday cake in the dining room. If you shoot the target on the cake, a monster jumps out of it. If you didn't bother to shoot at the target, then you may just say "oh, what a nice cake". Make sense?
  16. Hi Rob! We chatted with you in the Jack Rabbit line - glad you liked Ghostwood estate!
  17. Thank you for posting the TimesOnline video - I missed that one!!! Here are the other 2 TV channel news clips that show the ride in action: WTAE News: and WPXI News:
  18. We went back today (yes, bad weather and all) and still managed to have a good time in between the rain drops. We also figured out that the highest score you can get is 9999, and it does NOT roll over to 0. A few people throughout the day were trying to see how high of a score you could get, and it stops at 9999. Red targets are worth 100 and the green targets are 50, and you can hit it multiple times. Although when you are JUST focused on shooting targets, you miss a lot of the theming and props. Then you need to ride again to see what you missed
  19. If you would like to see video of the ride, here is a link to a local Pittsburgh news story. http://kdka.com/local/Kennywood.opens.2008.2.714373.html
  20. Today, DAFE members and the media were invited to preview the new Ghostwood Estate dark attraction. As a member of DAFE, I was fortunate enough to be able to attend. I must say, I was blown away by the new ride!!!! The preshow is fantastic, animation is perfect! But by far the best part of the ride - every target that you hit activates something - whether it is a light, an air blast, a figure movement, anything!!! No cheap plywood cutout targets here. There are about 200 targets on the ride, and depending on where you sit - you have a better aim at certain targets. You would definately need to ride it several times to see all the targets activate, plus ride another time just to appreciate the scenery and decor. The trackless cars work wonderfully, and actually turn you around at one point. It may not be a high/fast/steep roller coaster, but it is definately worth checking out at Kennywood!!! Oh, another thing - the queue line is covered and has ceiling fans - something we will appreciate in the heat of summer! Well, we know you all want to see pictures, so here you go.....It was hard to take pictures while shooting the ghosts, but hopefully this will give you an idea of what the ride is like. More things to get ready! Thank you for reading!!! On our way out, we are reminded that they are still getting ready for opening day tommorrow. Log rolling competition with one guy falling off the log! We also got a short preview of the new lumberjack show. Inside the ride Kennywood arrow on the back of the cars Trackless ride cars... with decorative chairs Preshow room Side view of Estate. Front of the Estate. Notice the loading platform on the 2nd floor. Walking towards the Estate Welcome to Kennywood
  21. I got it to work! (after much messing around with Quicktime!) Had to delete the official QT to install QT Alternative, then it kept telling me I needed to INSTALL QT alternative (???). I did some googling and found that the last version of QTA to include the MPEG2 codec was 1.81. So I searched out the old version, and installed that. I was able to use DVD Shrink to rip the DVD to my hard drive, then use the MPEG stream to edit it and convert it to AVI. Whew!!! But it was worth it though! Thank you again Wes for your help or I never would have found this program!!!!
  22. Thanks for the help! I will try this out tommorrow!
  23. Figured this might be a good place to ask this.... Has anyone experimented with taking video files off of a DVD and into a PC to edit them.? My am using Pinnacle Studio and it uses AVI/MPGfiles. I am working on a project and the material is being given to me on a DVD (as a burn from the master tapes). I do have DVD Shrink and which can create the VideoTS and AudioTS folders and the files have .BUP, .VOB, and .IFO. I've been doing a lot of Googling, and am confused by all the stuff I'm finding. Although, I did read somewhere that a VOB is a glorified MPG and that you could just change the file extension! I tried this on a test file, and it DID work (just backspace and change .VOB to .AVI) but I'm sure this is not the "right" way to do it. I know I did this once before, but I cannot remember for the life of me how I did it, or if I just changed the file extension. (I wanted a clip off a movie and was able save just a little clip) Can anybody help?
