Club TPR is Coming in March!
King of Ka replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This sounds awesome, the park list is getting even better. Fingers crossed for Six Flags Great Adventure and Knoebels next! I'm intrigued by the early ride access... I assume this would mean certain days at parks, but not full-day enthusiast events? Sounds good at any rate! -
Definitely agree with Knoebels, and I know you're trying to keep the park count low, but it seems like a shame to drive right past Lake Compounce and not go for a spin on Boulder Dash... of course if you can't do it you can't do it, but just something to think about.

Coaster Expedition Volume 13 is HERE!
King of Ka replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Awesome video, awesome song, awesome (really awesome) park. Definitely putting in a CE13 order soon! -
I'd just like to point out that so far it seems like the vast majority of the "No big deal" posts are coming from guys, and most of the girls who have posted in this thread are not so fast to push this aside. Guys- I'm sure you all know, to at least some degree, the feeling of being emasculated. Like you're in a situation you don't want to be in and are powerless to get out of it. With that in mind, I think how this woman feels needs to be reconsidered- it's probably a lot worse than you expect.

The iPad - Apple's Take On The Tablet Computer
King of Ka replied to Wes's topic in Random, Random, Random
This is one of the reasons I don't see the iPad being as good a ebook as the Kindle; the Kindle was always designed to seem as much like ink on paper as possible and make it more comfortable to read for long periods of time vs. a computer screen. The iPad definitely has lots of advantages over the Kindle, but strictly as an ebook the Kindle seems better IMO. -
Well, my first thought when this posted was, "Um, add legos?" I mean, what else is Legoland known for? If Cedar Fair was taking over, there'd be lots of stuff to play with: trashcans, concrete, dull names, seatbelts, etc. But this...I suspect that most people just can't can come up with anything more clever than dumping a bunch of legos onto a photo of Cypress gardens. Yes, this is exactly it. In my opinion, too many of the recent contests have been based around "adding theming" or something like that, and they tend to be the same picture or two with something random added. The one about the Manta track was good because it gave a lot of possibilities, which is what more of them should be like; a more vague topic might help interest people as well. The topic should let people be really creative with their entries whereas I feel like the current one gives people two things to work with (Legos and CG), rather than having them come up with their own pieces and joke based off one theme. Something like "If Dick Kinzel ran a different company" would be good in my opinion.

The iPad - Apple's Take On The Tablet Computer
King of Ka replied to Wes's topic in Random, Random, Random
It looks nice, but seems seriously underfeatured. It's nice looking and I'm sure very cool and smooth feeling- exactly what I'd expect from an Apple Tablet, but with the iPhone layout, no Flash, and no multitasking (Flash and multitasking are both things the iPhone should be able to do, let alone this) it seriously comes off as a giant iPhone. I think it will appeal to a lot of people, but eventually the novelty for a those people will wear off and it'll fall into small niche uses. I really don't see it as a major competitor to laptops or even netbooks, but it is a nice device and I'm sure many people will be happy with it. -

An Upgraded TPR Forum Coming Soon!
King of Ka replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Regarding the calendar, what if it were moved to the bottom? This way it wouldn't seem so large with the announcements, and the most important part, the forums themselves, would be more on-screen when the page first loads. Also, this is similar to the spacing with post size, I wonder if the borders for the topics and posts in the forum index could extend the entire box? In fact, the extra space seems caused in part by having "Moderators: robbalvey, Sharktums, TPR ASSistants" under each section. Could this line be dropped to take up less space? This is with Chrome 3.0 and Firefox 3.5 on a 1280x1024 screen. EDIT: Also, Chrome displays the threads on rollover as red. -
Club TPR Membership Card - VOTING!!!
King of Ka replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Great results from everybody, I can't wait to see how this turns out. I voted for jcrouse, rcrider, and n7. Personally, I really liked all of jcrouse's entries, but I'm really not a fan of the red bar on the side. If his design is chosen, perhaps other colors could be considered? -
Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
King of Ka replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sounds very cool, definitely something I'll try next time I'm at Hershey. I wonder how customizable the bars will be. If it's really "Create Your Own" and not simply choosing a combination of three options this seems like it could be hugely fun and popular. -
Opinions: First off, my personal favorite original design: I like the white a lot, even if it isn't traditionally "TPR." This just strikes me as a very nice, clean design. I would love to see this tweaked how Wes and others have recommended, I think it has great potential. n7's are also fantastic, although I prefer some of his older ones versus the newer. Here are three of my favorites of his: I really like both his original logo and the one in the third card- both do a great job of being bright but keeping the black sharp, which I don't feel the newest logo does. The new design is very nice, but a bit cluttered or unfocused to me. If nothing else, I would try removing the drop tower and maybe some other things. And finally: I think the single band of color across the card looks great, I think you should stick with this basic design and just tweak the bottom half as has been suggested, and you'd have a great card. Keep it up, I think this design is your best so far. All these designs are fantastic, I really hope everybody continues to update (or clean up) their designs, I think they're continually getting better.

The NHL Discussion Thread
King of Ka replied to Dailey Enterprizes's topic in Random, Random, Random
I definitely thought the Flyers outplayed the Bruins- both teams did well, and it was fun to watch, but I was surprised at the outcome. The Flyers seemed to be better at creating, but not capitalizing on, chances than the Bruins. -

^I considered that, but one of my goals was to do Compounce and SFNE at night for night rides on Bizarro and Boulder Dash, and I can't see how I could do that with the little bit of darkness (this'll probably be late June, which are the longest days of the year) when the two are an hour apart. I'd also like to get a decent amount of Bizarro rides in, so I was hoping to go to SFNE on a day when I wasn't doing much else. At any rate, I appreciate your feedback.

I'm actually planning my first sort of coaster trip, any feedback people can give me is hugely appreciated. It's just a small, two-day trip (one night in a hotel) to five parks. I'm mostly doing it to ride Boulder Dash and Bizarro, and one of my priorities is try both of them at night (especially BD), which is why I ordered it as I did. Here's my plan, leaving from just outside of Philadelphia: EDIT: Changed Day 1 to reflect apparent move of Darien Lake across NY. Day 1 Leave ~8:30AM Coney Island Rye Playland Lake Compounce Day 2 Quassy ~11:00AM SFNE and drive home late at night. Can anybody think of a more efficient way of doing these? Any parks I should add in or take out without requiring another day? Any and all help is nice, I'm sure I'll have a few more questions later, but I'm just wondering about basic info right now.
