  1. I had a great time at the park last Thursday despite the 105 heat index. The place was empty and all of the coasters were walk-ons. Also, the food and beer inside festhaus were great. One thing though, I don't get the hype over Apollo's Chariot. I first rode it back in 2007 and was not impressed. I rode it a few more times again on this visit and still found it to be quite dull. Really, I get more air on back seat Morgan coasters. It's one of the most over-hyped coasters out there, IMO. Otherwise, the rides here are great (absolutely love Alpengeist) and this park continues to be one of the better parks in the country.
  2. I had my first ride on Fury last Friday and....omg it was fantastic! Really, I think it's a top 5 steel coaster in the US. The first drop was long, the positive g's were surprisingly strong, and the negative g's beginning with the turnaround were also quite strong. I certainly don't have a B&M agenda, but I don't see how anyone can classify the air on this thing as less than ejector. This and Banshee are their best projects in a very long time, IMO. I also rode I305, Skyrush, Superman (SFNE), & Wicked Cyclone (amazing!) on the same trip and I would put Fury ahead of Skyrush and slightly ahead of I305....and way ahead of Millennium Force. Just an all around fantastic ride!
  3. I'm at the park today. No LR and no sign of any activity taking place in the station. No surprise, but a bummer nonetheless. Also, their weather policy is a bit frustrating. They have reopened rides and closed them after only about 10 minutes...twice now due to weather. Current conditions:
  4. Can anyone tell me where to get the best discount on tickets for the park? Thanks!
  5. I purposely planned my visit in late July because surely they would have this up and running by then. I'm starting to sweat now...
  6. Does anyone know where to get the best discount on tickets for the park? My group of 3 will be visiting in July.
  7. Does anyone know where to get the best discount on tickets for the park? My group of 3 will be visiting in July.
  8. ^^Thanks for that! Just saved $90 for myself and two friends visiting in July. Typically, how manageable is the park on a Wednesday in the middle of July? We're considering Quick Queue if wait times are likely to be over an hour. Thanks!
  9. I always assume someone has died, or some crazy accident has happened, whenever I see this thread near the top of the forums. Just thought I'd throw that out there
  10. See...I agree with you, but I think it's poor business logic for the park to take the stand of "come back to reality" and to accept "maybe next year" after a rather long drought of dry, high-thrill rides. Really, I'm not trying to come across as an expert here, but I do know that a significant amount of VF attendance each year comes from group sales. The MSP metro has a significant amount of large corporate offices. Having new, exciting additions to talk-up really helps with that process. I know VF is near the bottom of the CF milkshake, but maybe sometimes in this industry you have to spend big(ger) to earn big. I'm not sure of the park's numbers back in the mid-90's, but perhaps the Wild Thing investment was seen as a risk at the time...and that investment arguably put VF on the proverbial map. Just some food for thought. Oh, these final decisions are above Dave, btw.
  11. That is the VF motto for local thrill seekers! As usual, buy a Platinum Pass instead of a Gold one because if you want something new or thrilling you are going to have to travel. At least Adventureland is somewhat close and their new coaster Monster for next year looks fun and may even be more thrilling than anything VF has so we shall see. Yes that's a great point! I'd much rather spend the money (and take in the constant smell of cow poop for 2 hours) to go down to Adventureland next summer. Also, for any waterpark craving I may have, I still consider Waterpark of America superior. I could also just jump in the car for 3 hours and head out east to the Dells. Bottom line, I'm more excited for the Chance revolution at MOA next summer.
  12. Haha cute! I wasn't expecting much to begin with, but...yawn!! I guess it'll be another summer of trips to other parks with attractions that better satisfy me (and perhaps my demographic).
  13. I gotta post this picture again (And for those of you wondering, I will not meet up with any users from this site. Just being cautious) Sorry about that just had to get my point across. I don't think anyone is losing any sleep
  14. Whenver I hear about an amusement park accident, it surprises me. Whenever I hear about an accident at Mt. Olympus, I'm always surprised it wasn't worse. This place really is, in my opinion, the worst operated amusement park in the country.
  15. A Zamperla high-balloon-spiny thing (kids ride) is replacing the former Balloon Race and a Chance fireball is replacing Danny Phantom, from what I'm told.
  16. How's this? https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=zqgfkpgPaZiw.kLiA--cA1DMY I've sectioned off the major chain parks, colours roughly delineate which ones are open already and which ones aren't. Positions of some of the future parks may not be dead on. Looks great. I'm not too far from China these days, so this will definitely help with planning trips.
  17. Wow! Many of these new parks are looking fantastic. I'd love to see a map of China with all of these parks and the other 'visit-worthy' parks on it just to get a better idea of just how much is there.
  18. Even the wave pool was a letdown. Actually, I can't think of a more uneventful wave pool off the top of my head. In an industry that continues to grow and innovate, VF hasn't knocked any socks off since 1996. And to say that these waterpark additions are better than nothing is complete BS. Nowadays, people expect more and it's quite easy to take a look on the internet and see where else you could go and spend your money...in this case 3 hours east on 94 to visit some real waterparks. These new slides look like something Noah's Ark would have built 10 years ago. It has been discussed so much about how VF is 1 of 3 parks slated for blah blah blah....and this is just not impressive at all.
  19. I gotta say this is a bit of a yawn, IMO. More slides are definitely needed, but these don't seem all that creative. I've done the trapdoor slides before and the trapdoor aspect is thrilling. But that aside, you've got 4 slides that basically just drop straight to the ground. Why couldn't they have added tube slides, or a bowl, or an aqua loop, or a mat racer, or a bowl!!, or anything remotely more interesting? As for the new kiddie area, this looks boring. Large play structures with the giant dump bucket on top seem to be the norm nowadays (and for the last 10 or so years). As a VF marketing intern alumni, I remember receiving phone calls from mothers asking about what there was to do in the waterpark for small children. I felt so embarrassed trying to talk up the existing play structure and the geysers in the wave pool. This isn't enough to get me back for a visit. Here's to hoping that next coaster screams "significant growth potential" more than this expansion.
  20. I think VF has a bright future with Dave Frazier as GM. I worked at Snoopy/MOA/NickU when Dave was the GM and I remember him being a very proactive GM. He'll make good decisions if his hands aren't tied too much by CF corporate.
  21. The zip line should be a nice (and profitable) addition. Upcharge attractions like these live off of spectator potential. Having someone fly across the length of the park will definitely grab people's attention. Now, if they only price it properly... As for future attractions, I would love to see a launched coaster. I think something along the lines of Anubis/Lynet or Sky Rocket would be a great fit at the park.
