  1. I don't think I'd compare it to Fahrenheit in any way except that they're both pretty compact rides. Although the guy from Intamin who was with us at Tobu Zoo actually did compare the Mega-Lite to Maverick and Fahrenheit because I think from a construction and project management perspective the rides may be more similar than 200 or 300 foot hyper coaster. I do agree, from my view I think of these as "Mini-Hypers" but I can see where the guys selling and putting up the ride may compare it more to a ride of similar size. Ah I see. So sounds like more punch for your (or the park's) buck. I'll have to ride me one of these at some point in my lifetime. Fahrenheit is fun but the sound of "mini-Hyper"... very intriguing. I also agree with the comment about cloning. If you're gonna clone, make sure it's great. I still love the Batman's used as an example and still really enjoy taking a whip on those. Hopefully someday a park will locate one in the US (or Canada).
  2. I like the colour scheme. In the one picture when I first looked, it seemed as though the track was just floating. The green supports blended well with all the green of the vegetation. It made me do a double take anyway. Would you count this track layout similar to Fahrenheit maybe? Or does this layout pack more punch?
  3. Wow. I think my fear of foreign amusement parks has just doubled. Such brave souls you all are. I don't think I would have ridden if the seat belt didn't latch. Question. Is there a habit over there in China with spitting? I had a friend who went to China, not sure what areas, but I couldn't believe his stories about having to dodge as people sometimes spit... a bit more than "western" normal I guess. Of course in my mind I picture constant lugies flying left and right. LOL.
  4. LOL I agree the name a bit to be desired Although it does conjure up some amusing mental images of Pilgrims divebombing down falls in their boat. Hopefully everyone will be forced to wear bonnets and pilgrim hats.
  5. ^^ Kaskade is one of my favourite DJ's for house. His original albums just do it for me. Immediately uplifting. On the other end of the spectrum of Electronic music I have two heroes for their wide body of work. Daniel Myer (Haujobb, Architect, Destroid etc.) and Bill Leeb (Front Line Assembly, Delerium, Noise Unit etc.). Just love the obscure use of noise and collage in their music.
  6. My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult _ The Days Of Swine and Roses
  7. I choose Raptor as my fave. My first invert. Millenium Force comes in "just" behind.
  8. Maybe his family were hostages to boredom... I love my PS3. It's good stuff.
  9. Saw two movies this weekend. Mirrors. Was a major disappointment to me. I thought it had a good premise going in but ultimately the execution failed for me. Just too predictable, no real scares and didn't really pull off the supernatural aspect of the idea very well IMO. Very similar to The Ring without the creepiness or successful "Ring climax surprise". Star Wars: Clone Wars. Not a very big Star Wars fan but I found it entertaining. Remove all the over the top melodrama of the prequel episodes, add a serviceable adventure and some really nifty stylized animation and you got a decent little film. Good for the animation genre as I really liked it's style.
  10. I'd have to place my vote for Superman: Ultimate Flight. It's the closest B&M flyer to my location (prefer Tatsu but so far away...) and I try to make it my first and last ride when I visit Great Adventure. I ride at the back and the approach and entry into the pretzel loop dive gets me every time. Just absolutely exhilarating. Follow that closely with: El Toro Nitro Batman Medusa (makes my top 5)
  11. Griffon love your pictures. Take more trips... take more pictures... and continue to share. Your photos are making the world a better place in their own small way.
  12. I agree with you Mattnz on you comments regarding Intamin for the ferocious airtime. But I also think both manufacturers are exemplars of fine coasters. I'd like to add B&M for their solid line up of different coaster types, fluidity and what I might describe as gracefulness. It is really hard to choose one company over the other as "being better". Just personally though I find myself more focused and interested in B&M's for the identifiable coaster types (flyer, hyper, floorless, dive machine etc.) and their aesthetic quality (lol, it sounds funny to say that but it's true).
  13. It's been sitting there for quite awhile I believe. That's just the old Batman stand up that was stored at Darien Lake after Astroworld was turned into a parking lot. Ah I see... ok, excitement extinguished. Wonder if the new owner would put it back together. I've always considered Darien Lake a good place to go camping (as the main reason for the trip) and then the amusement park for something to do. (As opposed to going for the amusement park and camping for cheap accomodations. Although "Ride of Steel" is a good reason to make the trek there.) It's good to see a new coaster added this year.
  14. This was a great update. Robb wanting to lap up Vekoma spooge... OMG. The tastlessness amuses me so... I was excited to see the B&M track sitting and waiting, quite a surprise as I had not been keepingup with Darien Lake. It certainly looks like it is making improvements.
  15. Tried to register online with plans to follow up with a money order to be sent out but still haven't received the email confirmation to print out and include with my payment. Should I try to register online again? Or should I just send the payment out with the form from the flyer with a note? Help and direction would be appreciated. Thanks.
  16. Thanks for sharing your pictures! Love all the porn shots... lol. I can only imagine what it would be like to walk coaster track. I perceive it to just be a strange experience for some reason... like knowing "hey, i shouldn't be here". I would be a bit paranoid I think. I might have to start planning to visit Dolly myself too.
  17. Thank you for dragging us through Gatlinburg... someplace that we wouldn't generally think of going. No thanks for proving that the mullet is still alive and thriving in parts of the world... I will now go find comfort in watching a horror film... (Thanks for sharing all the photos, really fun!)
  18. Hey. Thanks for the trip report! You put a smile on my face when you described Hershey's Wild Mouse as amazingly scarey. Was just at HersheyPark myself May 25 and took an unsuspecting ride on it. OMFG! That ride had to be the unexpected highlight of the day for conjuring up insane uncontrolled belly laughs. It was one of those priceless moments. It's always cool to do the impromptu "Hey! Let's..." and then you are off. You guys are cool.
  19. Aww. I was there Wednesday and Thursday this past week. I feel so sad for Nitro. It broke down mid-day Wednesday with the train half way up the lift hill. Thursday it was still closed with a huge crane extended to the crest of the lift (train gone). Very sad to see a train stuck at the top of the lift on Friday... Nitro get better!! Great photos. Looks like you guys had a lot of fun. Would have been fun to be there the same day as I am sure I would have recoginzed you HotFuzz from other trip reports.
  20. A Tale of Two Sister's is a really good film. I had to watch it twice and there are some really good effective creepy scenes in it. It's now in my DVD collection. It's headed for an American (mauling) remake... I guess I should wait and see.
  21. Congrats on your upside-downiness... make sure you work up to the whipping inverts on a B&M invert and a divebomb on a B&M Flyer pretzel loop (preferably Tatsu). Nothing like entering a Pretzel loop and seeing the track diving straight down in front of you, it really is a "oh sh****ttt!!!!" moment... make sure you ride in the back
  22. I actually agree with you Robb. I was actually surprised and pleased to see the employees enforcing the line jumping rule at Canada's Wonderland during their Season Pass Sneak Peek night. While they couldn't do much about the line as it extended past the "official" queue, as soon as the official queue started they had an employee turning people away when they tried to enter to join their group who had already passed that point. I don't understand why these people proceed to argue with the employee. You can see the signs posted everywhere, the rule is stated in the park maps. Why any one would expect to just stroll to the front of the line after I have been waiting an hour an a half (after others in their group have waited 2 hours!!!) is beyond me. Have some respect, have respect for the others in your group even.
  23. Wow also, I was going to arrive for 5:00pm for the opening but got stuck in traffic. I am soooo glad that I got there the time that I did. Instead of all the chaos of the running of the peeps I was able to have a leisurely stroll to the line. I'm actually in the line in the first video near the front before the actual queue starts. LOL.
  24. Well it honestly didn't feel like it was creeping over the hills when I rode it. Rode in the second to last car back and I felt plenty of airtime.
  25. What a wild and interesting trip report. I imagine that the sand storms are hell for maintenance on the rides...
