rollermonkey replied to paramountguy's topic in Random, Random, Random

The "Say Something Random" Thread
rollermonkey replied to robbalvey's topic in Random, Random, Random
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy moon with the spoon. Frank Sinatra could croon a tune. A gift may be considered a boon. A duck is not a loon. Midday can be called noon. Many marriages occur in June. A nordic letter might be a rune. An omnivore in slang may be a coon. Frank Herbert wrote Dune. That thug is a goon. I will be finished soon. Sit, Ubu, sit. Good dog. -
Yes, but not since I wore diapers! Do you want a cookie?

Wow, Vurang is the second example of the Intamin spinning coaster I have ever seen. Comet Express at Lotte World in Seoul appears to be the same model. Does Vurang have powered sections and coasting sections?

Two new ASSistants!
rollermonkey replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Click on TPR ASSistants next to moderators on the index page. That takes you to a list of who is in the group. Chris "Maybe your unfamiliarity with the way the site works is part of why you (or I) are(am) not a moderator / ASSistant on TPR." Belson -

Regardless of anyone's opinions of ACE or the ECC, the magazines are pretty nice, but with the internet, usually they are borderline to completely out-of-date by the time anyone gets them. Additionally, Rollercoaster has a decent sized staff of people working to put that out and they have a tough time making deadline for even a quarterly publication. Nobody is paying Robb and Elissa to maintain this website, and it is free to use it. With this format lots of the content is maintained by us, the user, in the form of PTR's and now videos. R+E Sell videos to help support the cost of bandwidth, but no one forces you to buy videos so you can use the site. For R+E: If you do ever decide to start an old fashioned print periodical, whatever the format, I'd be glad to help! Long Live TPR!

The Disney parks depend on if you've ever been there before. If it's a first time, DL is definitely a full day park. Otherwise, yeah, you could squeeze them in to one day with good usage of fastpasses and good planning.

Tokyo Disney Resort Discussion Thread
rollermonkey replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't know. They don't have a "budget" priced hotel owned by the park itself. The Miracosta is very upscale, and actually mostly inside DisneySea itself. My friend stayed there for three nights. (His in-laws paid.) Just the room alone was over 2,000 dollars! The cheapest room in the place is $300 a night, and that's in the 'low' season! I don't expect the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel to fill the need for a budget hotel, but based on the location, I don't expect it to top Miracosta in prices or amenities/style. -
^? I was thinking of a single 1/4 or 1/2 inch hole at the highest point of the spine of each section. If the sand is dried out, it should flow down pretty well. The spine is where most of the sound is generated, that's why B&M's sound so different. After filled, a new piece of steel would be welded into place, keeping water out, and if done well, restoring most of the strength. Sure, it's not perfect and it'd take a lot of time, but it would help, if noise was in fact the primary reason the ride was closed.

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

One of the perks of having sent in over 1000 pics to RCDB is that he answers my e-mails. His reason for removing Avatar from the site: ME: Hey, Duane! So why'd you pull the listing for Avatar from the site? Did you feel it isn't really a coaster? Just curious. DM: They were advertising it as a roller coaster before I realized it was just a fancy Zamperla Disk-O. And there you go! For me, no longer a credit. -

If I'm not mistaken, even though it is an Intamin creation, it was designed by Mr. Bolliger and Mr. Mabillard before they left to form a new company. It has the box spine of a typical B&M and with it the typical "B&M sound." I never thought it was particularly loud, but I have never been in the water park there, never mind while Flashback was in operation. I never had a bad ride on it, but I always seemed to be in the front row on a corner. I did ride it on at least 6 occasions, and while never my favorite coaster, I never disliked it, either. I never understood all the complaining about it, and I was surprised when I learned that it had ceased to operate regularly. Who knows, maybe there's a problem because of the history of the ride? It was moved a couple times and the manufacturer itself has changed significantly since the ride was built.

I lived in Gaeta, IT for two years. In the old part of town, there were two gelateria; Il Molo and Il Pinguino (The Mole and The Penguin) and for the previous 6 years they had handed the award back and forth for "Italy's Best Gelato." Talk about gettin' fat! Fresh, hand made, Tiramisu and White Chocolate gelato. (Insert Homer salivation sound here.) I still thought the Cold Stone in Guam edged it out.

I'll look and see if I can find my pictures from Otaru last year. While on the sidewalk, you couldn't see the street for the snowbank between.

Magic Mountain Strategy for 02/12/06 (sunday)
rollermonkey replied to Skyscraper's topic in Ask Alvey
I have a picture of Fujiyama at home that I can upload that shows heat lamps along the sides of the tracks to keep the bearings warm in the station. It's pretty neat, plus it keeps the station warm too! -
Day of week will be a big factor as well as which month you are there. August is atrocious, as nearly all of Italy is on holiday for the month. Since you are there in July, it shouldn't be nearly as bad. I did Gardaland in a day, and I didn't skip much. I went on the 4th of July which was a weekday that year. I got there a little late and there was some waits, especially for the newer rides. (90 minutes for Prezzomolo's crazy house, whatever it's name was.) I really liked Mirabilandia a lot. If you do get out that way, Fiabilandia is a small park just south of there and I did Mirabilandia and that on the same day. Will you be using public transportation or renting a car?

Have you tried Cold Stone Ice Cream? Another food item not available on the continent that I live. Comments? Somewhere else you prefer?
