Bill, everyone knows that a B&M hyper has a much more intensive maintenance routine than a traditional wooden coaster. Kings Island practically retracks Diamondback every few years -
Playland/PNE (Vancouver) Discussion Thread

Is Playland’s marketing director an 8 year old boy? So much of Playland’s marketing seems (or seemed) to revolve around vomiting. Strange since I don’t think most people find barfing to be a pleasurable experience or something the park necessarily wants people to associate with a visit to Playland, but maybe that’s just one more Canadian quirk to add to the list? -
Shanghai Disney Resort Discussion Thread

If the temperature checks are anything like at the Shanghai airport, it takes literally one second per person to scan. It’s all automated and quite efficient. I imagine it’ll be similar, but the real factor will be how many lanes they employ. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Shoot the Rapids wasn’t a flume. That was the problem. It was an overly-complex, boring boat ride that happened to have a couple drops that weren’t even in the right order (everyone knows the longest drop should be the last one on a flume). Everything about it was just wrong from the start, and had they just purchased a legit flume from Mack, the damn ride would still be there and half of the Cedar Point thread wouldn’t be everyone screaming for a flume What gets me though, is the park obviously felt the need for a flume, built what they thought was going to be a flume, demolished it a few years later, and now... they don’t feel the need for a flume anymore? Don’t they, by their own logic, still have a hole in their lineup? -
Easy enough to say to worry about the money later if you’re not the one who is now unemployed, two months of rent now past due, your industry is completely defunct and there is no end in sight. Seems like the attitude of “the economy can wait” is pretty prevalent among those who are cozy working at home and having all of their meals and groceries delivered. Then they can sit back and shame the less fortunate and unemployed for wanting things to go back to normal, because after all, LIVES ARE AT STAKE. Not that those who would like to just wait things out are completely in the wrong, but you have to see it from the side of those whose livelihoods have been completely put on hold because of this.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

I mean that would be amazing, and if done properly would create such a cool area. However, I have zero faith that Cedar Point would weave a new ride around an old one and maintain the trees and landscaping that make that area so nice. They’re much more likely to demolish Mine Ride, clearcut every tree that’s within even 100 feet of the new flume, and backfill the lagoon for good measure. -

When I worked for Cedar Fair as a ride-op, the ride operators still needed to cycle each ride a fairly large amount of times to make sure that the ride will function properly day to day under normal circumstances. I'm sure that maintenance needs to cycle rides their way as well, but what's that going to mean at a 2+ op ride/rides with more than one panel such as coasters? Pre-season cycling also gets ride-ops familiar with their attractions to better operate them when/if guests do show up. And once when a ride I worked at was down for over a month, the ride operators needed to cycle it again and again so that it could be re-cleared for guests. What you said is true - rides will need their crews to become familiar with running them and cycle them empty a bunch before guests arrive, but I was responding to the comment that we won’t see testing because Cedar Point doesn’t have the staff to do so right now. Maintenance workers are able to test and cycle rides in maintenance mode without any ride ops whatsoever, even rides that have multiple panels, that’s what maintenance mode is. -

A single maintenance worker can test and cycle a ride. -
Canceling and closing everything is only going to slow the spread of this thing, it will not help whatsoever. It’s going to get as bad as it will regardless of what stays open and what cancels, and more than likely the entire world will get it and a bunch of 80 year olds will die. We’re just slowing the inevitable at this point, and annihilating the economy and everyone’s livelihood in the meantime. Way to go, world. This is insane.

Or maybe each individual lap on each ride is different and sometimes it’s gonna suck and sometimes it’ll be fun.
