  1. Yeah, just think, RMC still has to build the whole second track so the ride can duel!
  2. I'd have a really hard time visiting the park with someone who insisted on calling every ride Millie, Maggie, Corky, Svennie, Twistie, Rappy, Streakie, Draggie, etc. all day long.
  3. With parks gearing up for their Halloween events any week now, I thought I'd start a topic that I don't ever recall being discussed on TPR. I know the general consensus on this site is "ZOMG!! ¡¡Haunt/o-scream/o-weekends/horror-o-nights OMG amazbealls/can't get enough/never want it to end!!¡¡" but am I the only one who vastly prefers the parks in their normal summer mode? The mazes just don't scare me and I can do without all of the cheesy/cheap theming and a billion pumpkins strewn about any and every spot one can possibly be placed. September and October used to be the best time to visit parks - perfect weather and manageable crowds - and now many parks see their highest attended days of the entire year during this time. Don't get me wrong, I totally see why this is great for the parks, but it's just a personal preference and I know I'm not the only one. I'll breathe a giant sigh of relief come November 1 when all of the nonsense is over
  4. Unfortunately, accidents like this are a major factor in parks getting rid of their log flumes.
  5. There's a possibility staffing may get easier for the park now that the kids are actually able to get hours year round.
  6. What?! That came out of nowhere! The park has never done this, correct?
  7. Knot's has a hypercoaster. It's called Xcelerator. That's your hypercoaster. Enjoy it. It's a great ride. Hangtime is the perfect addition to Knott's. Replacing a boomererang with an infinity coaster is just about as good of a replacement as you could (realistically) ask for. It's going to look great in its location.
  8. Yeah, the problem would have been that it wasn't raining and they wouldn't have had anything to blame it on! **coughmagnum07**
  9. For anyone who hasn't seen this picture:
  10. ^^ That would infuriate me beyond belief. To not allow guests to sit in fully functional seats and ride sans VR due to a lack of working headsets is quite possibly the most asinine policy I've ever heard of. That's surprising even for Six Flags.
  11. Moving platform or not, even if they dispatched a train every minute, that's 480 riders/hr. In reality it'll be more like a train every two minutes... Throw in 50% flashpass, and you're looking at 120ish standby riders per hour... so.... I mean this looks like a fantastic ride. I just miss the days where capacity was king - second only to safety - when parks were planning their new attraction.
  12. How can SFOG let Scorcher look that bad? That ride looms over the front entrance.. nothing says "welcome to Six Flags" more than a dilapidated roller coaster. What's really hilarious is that the paint underneath the peeling purple looks better than what they used to cover it with now.
  13. I think he means something more old school. A free fall ride that rattles and shakes and ends with you flying into the brakes on your back. I'd paint it red and white to look like a satellite tower. That would look sweet.
  14. Gemini had to have been the most fun ride to work back in the days when they ran three trains on each side. Maybe someone who knows a little more about it could elaborate, but when I worked at the park, I was told that when they were in danger of "setting up" the third train (stopping on the high block brake before third turn) the crew would actually PUSH the trains out of the station to get them out faster to prevent a setup.
  15. New teaser video https://mobile.twitter.com/cedarpoint/status/889877924991700993/video/1
  16. Doesn't Universal's current advertising campaign center around kids that have grown up and are ready for a more grown up theme park, i.e. Not Disney? What do big kids like? Thrill rides. So let's take out arguably the best thrill rides between the two parks. Ok... I also cannot buy the notion that Dragons was "near the end of its lifecycle". Toward the end of Hulk, you could FEEL that it was time for it to die. Dragons is still glass smooth and could probably be ran as-is for another decade.
  17. Wow. I remember a topic on this forum a decade ago talking about which B&M would be the first to be scrapped. Probably 90% said it would be one of the original 3 stand-ups. Who would have thought then it would be Dueling Dragons... technically all three coasters at IOA? Such a shame.
  18. ^ I think that pic confirms a full and complete third lap! Ledgers placed right along side the double-up and double-down ready for track! I think this may be the first RMC rebuild that actually produces a LONGER track than the original ride!
  19. Looking at that picture, it also appears that those extra leftover supports on the third hill have been removed. Maybe people will finally give up on the idea that the ride will duel at that location now
  20. (Deleted) Some seriously cool new drone footage. Edit: probably shouldn't have posted that on here. But it's easily searchable on YouTube.
  21. I can't speak to how the crowds will be, though I'd guess they'd be moderate being a Sunday. You sound like you're "aware" that it's the park's unofficial gay day. So that could make the day extra fun. I know I always had fun that day when I worked at the park
  22. ^^ I have seen three train ops on the webcams.
  23. ^ This is my bi-annual reminder that all you have to do in order to enjoy Magnum is to sit in the middle row of any car and try to keep your lapbar from falling down too far. Smooth rides aplenty.
  24. I love that this is turning out to be a wacky, cartoonized version of the old Mean Streak. It's hardly going to look much different from afar. Riding this thing is going to be a world apart from its predecessor, though!
  25. ^ and ^^ Boys! Boys! You're both right. Yes, it's helpful to have the launch on a slight incline to help the train get back to the starting position in case of a roll back, but it's not mandatory. Yes, the whole launch track on a cable launch could be equipped with drive tires that pop into place and retract when not needed, but as my 7th grade math teacher always said, K.I.S.S. - keep it simple, stupid! Why go through the hassle of drive tires if you can just use gravity? Actually, now that I think about it, I'm surprised Intamin went the inclined launch route
