What sign? I haven't been down that way in a while..... -
Park enthusiasts are overweight ...

It's hard to look the other way when I had to try and strap seat belts around the larger guests at Go Karts, get the 12" extension! There was one guy that took up an entire double car, I mean, that's HUGE. The seat pads in the doubles have the standard size butt-dent that is identical to the one in the singles, plus a 1/2 size one for the passenger (they're really only meant for an adult and a kid). His keister spanned the entire width of that cusion, and had to suck it in to click the seat belt, even with the extension! The crappy part is when you have to tell them they're too big to ride. When I worked at Thrill Shot, we got to the point where we knew some people just wouldn't fit, without even trying to cram them into the cart, simply by looking at them. Then there was the embarassment for the guest when in front of their friends they had to admit they were too big for the lap bar to come down, and get a refund for the ticket they bought. I was happy to help people out that were unsure if they would fit or not and wanted to see BEFORE buying a ticket, kinda like they knew to themselves that they were big and weren't in denial......I wish that had happened more often. -

I'm at one ride, as are most people.....except for the poor saps in Bunny World! They tend to bounce around a bit more, but then again, most rides do have to share people. There's three areas of rides in the Operations department, and on days when a coaster needs people, others will lend them day transfers. I've only been transferred a few times, but each one stunk. X: never did figure out how to check those funky restraints, so I stood at the front of the entrance line in the "bouncer" spot and made sure that people who put stuff in the lockers came back, sent people to different rows based on how many in their group, and kept people getting off from getting back on......finally left 2 1/2 hours after the park closed because it broke down like crazy and we had to clean. Main gate: scanned season passes for a little while, went on lunch, came back to do "re-admit".....and tell people they couldn't go out the normal exit gates anymore but instead the same ones they went through when they came in. Parking lot: got abandoned at "crossing guard" for several hours, park closed at 10pm.......I left at 12:30am. -
Heh, sounds like you had fun........I too have wondered what part of the chicken that lump was, heck of a lot better than the grease-burgers.......arf: I guess I just never picked up on it, but when did you go? Remember how you'd only ride Dive if it was free? That can always be arranged......if you show up on a day I'm at the park.

Pay rides = free, well if I know the people. I know the people at Dive real well, so they're cool and let me go on whenever I want, by myself or with friends. Used to do it with Thrill Shot too, but I worked there, so it was a bit less of a stretch. My brother used to work in Foods too, so he still has "connections" and can help out that way. -
Anyone else remember the guy "Oxnard Montalvo" on Angry Beavers? Cracked me up when I saw that sign!

We actually started a "Best ride crew" of the week thing, not sure who it's been. All I know is that at my ride, we ARE hard working, and actually give a flip about our ride too, we're paid a bit extra to do it too. I guess I don't pick up on the rude employee thing as much because I just don't pay attention when I go as a guest, most of them are real nice when they find out I work there though. Maybe as a ploy, you could go and say you're from corporate and that they'll be sending out "secret shoppers" to see what the employees are up to....tell them to spread the word too. -

Go with me, we can go up exits, I flash my ID and we can fill empty seats on darn near every coaster. I've got more than a few friends too, extra-specially at the best rides. Dive Devil, anyone? -

As an employee, I am thoroughly annoyed by this "Mr. Six" junk. It was a novelty a year ago when it first came out and seeing that old dude boogie, but now......... I s'pose we could have it worse though, at a park wide employee meeting meant to get everyone on the "happy" track or something, they showed a video of random Six Flags parks and what they do to keep it "Play time"........gah! SF Over Texas (I think) has ALL employees line up before the park opens and dance to the Venga Boys song with a handfull of costume characters, everyone was REAL happy to be doing it too! Then at the Georgia SF, they had a kid dressed as Mr. Six jumping around in front of guests (hokey), and other junk. I'm all for the new coasters and theming though, THAT will make people want to come to our park, not a guy jumping around to up beat techno or whatever it's called. -

Large footer, maybe, or maybe they got ahold of my plans for a Death Ray aimed at Cedar Point and Disney Land! Muahahahaha!!! It's also been insanely busy the last few days, Thursday last week was as busy as a Sunday, what gives?!?! Monday had waves of guests though, busy for an hour, then dead.......maybe they all went to the Batman show and watched the Batmobile pretend to jump a little gap because they're too afraid to actually hit it with some speed after breaking it. I gotta admit, the Chevy 350 crate engine they threw in it sounds GREAT! I hated Hurricane Harbor the one time I went there, I'm not in shape, and probably never will be......my current farmer's tan thanks to working in the sun at SFMM probably wouldn't help either, the contrast between tan arms, lighter legs, and downright pale chest would be scary. In other news, I'm now hearing that Orient is NOT going to get the axe, but something even crazier: it'll move. My "source" (I sound so cool ) said they might be moving it over 2 feet to one side to make room for whatever the heck they're doing now with the construction. I also heard from someone else that Sky Tower, of all things, might be OPENING. No idea how much credence that one has, but I have seen the elevators go up and down a few times........over the last year or so. I heard once that Security goes up there to make sure that no fires are started by the Friday, Saturday, Sunday, or Monday fireworks....they're too cheap for mid week ones. I'll try to ask some mechanics about that stuff, but we'll see. Also, I doubt anyone has really missed it but me (used to work there), but Thrill Shot has been down for the last 3-4 months, and they might actually be making some progress on it. They pulled the cart out a while back and it's been sitting under Batman's brake run ever since, but they cleaned up all the random cable spools and saw horses and stuff lately. A mechanic said they were going to check the welds on the cart, then "evaluate" it; it was a pay attraction ($10 a ride, maybe for two if we were feeling nice), but never made a whole bunch of business except on Saturdays. Anyway, they'll compare operating costs to how much it was bringing in and see what happens. Last I heard, they woulndn't start doing serious work on it until the second week of September, so they could leave junk in the middle of the midway. I'm done now. -
How many times the same ride in a day ?
4718 replied to mingsai's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My brother and I rode Scream! almost 10 times for the promo shoot before the media day, actually started feeling sick after the first 5, and mooched a few of the free sodas and chips they had stacked up. It was really cool, can't wait for the next coaster to open up and be one of the first on that one too! -

Guys, just yesterday I heard that Orient Express may very well be getting the axe after all, a "friend" said they saw the cars being lifted out yesterday, and it's the scuttlebut around that end of the park. Also, as the construction goes on, Revolution will be closed for a while so the construction won't interfere with it. Oh, and those suckers on the top of Sky Tower have been there for years, my guess would be that they ARE lightning rods. We've seen it maybe once in the 3 years I've worked there, but then again we don't get many thunderstorms in this city. This winter however, there was a massive once that got pushed up against the mountains to the south and hovered over Newhall with TONS of rain and lightning flashes! -

Ironic thing is, there was a lead test a while back that the new leads had to take that involved that sort of thing........ "While working at Log Jammer, you hear a loud explosion near Sky Tower and see it begin to lean toward you. What are your first actions? Followed by...... Sky Tower collapses and takes out Break 3.......(still don't know where that is really, the drop maybe?)......as well as the lake. What were you able to finish before then, and what do you wish you had done?" It was creepy, to say the least. Anyway, I've been on vacation for the last week or so, and happened to go to the park on Wednesday. It was darn near the way the pics look, but I'm not really surprised by that. I did take note of how torn up everything is at the top of the hill, and the shut down Orient......which made the walk up to Superman a pain. I also gotta add, do NOT ride in the last row of X, my friends and I got whomped on pretty bad because of it. However, Batman and Scream! sure are cool when you go in the front row, you can actually see what the heck is going on! -
Holy crap, this is one hilarious thread! I gotta go with the Sit 'N Sleep commercial as being the no. 1 repeat offender, we mute the tv AND change the channel just so you don't see that crap! Then there's the constant ripping-off of classic songs by Ross for some retarded sale, no one wants to go to your stupid gigantic reject rack of clothes, playing well known songs to your hokey commercial isn't going to save you now! Meh, I guess it's better than the crap they used to have.......::shudders:: Oh, and "girly" stuff..........'nuf said. I think it's cool that it isn't just guys that are annoyed by it, as kat11joe proved. The bear pooping in the woods junk has just about made me chuck the remote at the tv a few times too.........

Heh heh, so maybe me saying they could start in as soon as a week isn't so far off, is it? Ninja gardens will be gone, and the coaster will take up a TON of real estate, it's really their only option as far as making a new one........that and building into their employees' parking lot again (good old Scream! took away an entire lot, now parking is scarce). -

Yellow tag -- 15 year old, only in merchandise, foods, and maybe as a "park service attendant" (aka: "barf sweepers") Green tag -- 16 or 17 year old, allowed in every department Black tag -- 18 and older (that's me!) Red tag -- foreman (aka: "lead"), base level of manager, same uniform as fellow employees Red tag v.2 -- still a foreman, but if in light blue button up shirt and black pants, official name is "area foreman"; they're one step higher than a lead Blue tag -- same uniform as area foreman, but outrank them by one level as a "Seasonal Supervisor" Blue tag w/ first and last name -- This is basically all the "higher than seasonal sup." people, and goes from that rank straight to Del Holland at the top. Uniform is always a button up shirt (usually light colored), with khaki pants..........and don't forget the radio. Just thought I'd help you guys out, I'll remove it if anyone somehow thinks it's "too much". BTW, if you think stuff out in the open reeks, try walking behind the shops on the way up to Deja............now THAT crap reeks! arf: Oh yeah, and I don't think that Orient is getting the axe for good, but more likely is that the construction will be in the way. If anything, they might re-hab it while it's down, no guarantees though. -
I'm trying to think of something, but most of the crap I remember came after I was like 6 or so.........all the new junk I learned in school pushed my childhood out! I remember pre-school when I was about 4, that's about the furthest back I can go. Lots of cool and funny stuff though, guess it's from growing up in the 80's. 8)

In N Out is the best fast food ever, gotta love getting 3 Double Doubles.........gotta hate the "Ohhhhh......." feeling afterward though. I think I'll stick to just 2 Double Doubles, beats the pants off a "4x4" any day! Other that In N Out, Del Taco is great for good tasting cheap food, Wendy's for Sunday lunch, and McDonald's if hell has frozen over and you want to puke until the next time it freezes again.

Stupid tram......... -
It's real alright! I'm more into cars and trucks, as far as radio control goes, but have seen some crazy plane/heli stuff in the past.

Knott's Ghostrider takes the cake for me, I love the way it bombs through it's own supports with "rope lights" along the handrails being the only thing that shows where you're going next........great ride altogether!

Sorry for the confusion, they've only got paper designs of it right now I guess, I have yet to see anything because of days off. I'm not sure why they'd be marking stuff for it if the design was truly still kinda up in the air, but I can only go off what the mechanic told me.......whether it's right or wrong. Also, it's highly UNlikely that any parts for it are at the park already, they'll probably use the gravel lot they used for the Scream! stuff, but nothing there yet. Then again, they might be storing stuff elsewhere, possibly with a gigantic death ray to help take over Cedar Point too!
