Ok so I am getting conflicting reports of the ride closing right before the park closed due to a rain delay and then it re-opening again. Did it re-open tonight just before 8pm to let the final riders on or not? Anyone have photos or video or has anyone seen anything on line to back up that claim? EDIT: I just had someone else confirm the story. So Universal DID re-open the ride after the rain delay about 8pm and there were 3 or 4 train dispatches that were the "final riders" on Dragons.
-
Your story falls in line with what I heard from other people as well... Basically there was a small storm that passed by here (I live about a mile and a half from the park) that lasted about 30 minutes. About 15 minutes before park closing, they decided to just close Dragons. Oddly enough though, all the other rides that were also down due to weather they waited until the storm passed and then they cleared out the line even after park closing to let guests ride. This what the app looked like at 6:45 tonight... EDIT: Someone just wrote to me and let me know that they DID re-open the ride about 10 minutes to 8. It would appear that most people bailed and left thinking the ride wouldn't re-open which is what was reported on social media. Was anyone else there to get in a last ride around 8pm?

This was an interesting bit of information posted to our Facebook page by one of Dragons' ex-tech service supervisors. Especially this part: "Could it have lasted another 20 years? Absolutely. Was it becoming unsafe? Not a chance." It's nice to hear that really nothing out of the ordinary was wrong with the ride but also also disappointing that it was just marketing and executive management that wants more Potter, and even a high-caliber ride like Dragon's isn't safe when it comes to that IP. Oh, well...
-
The almighty dollar that Harry Potter can provide them with. People travel far and wide to HP world, not for Dragons so I guess this new HP coaster with an actual theme from the movie can provide them with even more marketing opportunities. Oh, I get that. But there is a GIGANTIC space that currently is the remainder of the original Lost Continent with dud attractions no one talks about like Sinbad and Poseidon's Fury that could have been removed. I'd be willing to bet that Dragons would be listed higher on any guest satisfaction survey than those two attractions so part of me just doesn't understand why you'd take out a ride that still seems to be very pleasing while other attractions that have most certainly not aged well still stick around. If you could have Dragons AND a new Potter ride... But as I said, I'm not going to lose too much sleep over it, I'll put some hope that whatever replaces it will actually be better than Dragons, and if not, instead of complaining about it, I'll just go hang out somewhere else...

Today is final day for Dueling Dragons. Here is some vintage footage from around 1999-2002. While I personally am not sold that this is a "good decision" we will wait to see what the future holds. Went to take our final rides a couple of weeks ago and stood at the exit shooting some footage for a while and I watch the MAJORITY of guests exit the ride and *RUN* back to the entrance to ride again. I'm just not sure why a park would want to touch a ride that still seems to have such high satisfaction. I mean attractions like Universe or Energy or Great Movie Ride usually gets reactions like "Wow, I'll never get that 27 minutes of my life back" so I understand why those rides time have come. But that's not the case for Dragons. Oh well, all I know is that whatever they are planning to replace it with has a high bar already set for it and I feel it will be difficult to to beat Dragons, but we shall see. Enjoy the video...

Thanks a MILLION everyone!!!
robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
No, I honestly still cannot believe it! What's even weirder is that apparently we are the first theme park or roller coaster channel to hit that milestone! I really was unaware as I don't watch that many other channels. (Sorry, just not a lot of time) I really would have thought some of those crazy Disney fans channels would have hit a million long ago, but everyone keeps tell me we were the first! Yay us, I guess! -
Thanks a million for all your support and awesomeness over the years!!!* * At least to the ones who haven't made us want to weep for humanity!

Why do we need threads about things we don't like? Someone asked me on our live stream last night "What are the parks or rides you hate the most?" I responded back: "Why do people want to talk about things we hate? Aren't theme parks and roller coasters supposed to be about FUN and ENJOYMENT? WIth so much hate in the world right now, can't we talk about things we LIKE and make us HAPPY?" Seriously, isn't that better? --Robb "Hoping this thread gets abandoned in favor of topics that are more positive in spirit." Alvey

Yes, the fireworks show is totally different. They only do the "perimeter fireworks" a couple of times a year and this is one of those times. I will also probably mention that if you're not a "huge Disney fan" this event may not totally be your thing. Much of why this event is awesome to me is because it's a nice break for a regular day at Magic Kingdom and fills that day with even MORE "Disney." More character meet & greets, more people dressed up as their favorite Disney characters, more interaction with super-fun and friendly Disney cast members, exclusive Disney shows & parades, and exclusive Disney merchandise and Disney food offerings you can't get anywhere else. Yes, it's still a cool event if you're not a huge Disney fan and I would never discourage anyone from attending, but know what you are getting into!

So today was the first day of Epcot's Food & Wine Festival! And for the first day of Food & Wine we are going to do a tour of Italy with some of their new offerings! First off, the booth has been totally re-done and it looks GREAT!!! The menu items have been given a refresh as well. For those of you who love calamari, this is highly recommended! The shrimp with penne & vodka sauce was also very good! That would be the beef stew with polenta. WOW! The Donkey Cart inside the Italy pavilion always has some delicious treats. Orangecello anyone? Yes, please! This is VERY good! The pizza window has returned at Via Napoli and this is a HUGE favorite of mine! That's the new Pizza Bianca slice and you can still get traditional cheese pizzaand other offerings as well! Careful not to drink too much or you might end up like this guy...oh wait, that's just how Jeremiah normally is... Here's a look at the menu for the pizza window. The meatballs were wonderful! My new favorite from the Food & Wine offerings that Italy has! No need for words, I just want your pizza! Oh man...that right there! Soooo good! COMMENT BELOW if you want this slice! Italian food is best enjoyed with adult beverages! A fancy slice of pizza and a beer sounds pretty good to be! What about you? We are going to end our tour of Italy on a proper Italian dessert note... a Cannoli! YUM!!! Thank you Italy! You have succeeded in filling me up with yummy treats! We will be back for more Epcot Food & Wine VERY soon!!! Ok, now please POST YOUR COMMENTS!!! After all, we took the time to write this report, the least you could do is say something nice about it! -

HARLEY QUINN Crazy Coaster to Debut at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom World’s First Dual Looping Coaster Coming in 2018 VALLEJO, Calif. — August 31, 2017 — Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, the Thrill Capital of Northern California, in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products on behalf of DC Entertainment, today announced its newest thrill machine—HARLEY QUINN Crazy Coaster, set to open in spring 2018. This world’s first of its kind inverted looping coaster features continuous inversions along a vertically stacked figure eight track. The ride features multiple head-to-head high flybys at combined speeds of 70 miles per hour for the ultimate dueling adventure ride. “Six Flags is the leader in thrills and opens new rides and attractions every year, at every park. Six Flags Discovery Kingdom will debut a world’s first of its kind coaster and it will be our first to be themed after one of the world’s most iconic female Super-Villains, HARLEY QUINN,” said Park President Don McCoy. “Located next to THE JOKER—our popular hybrid coaster, the over-the-top personality of HARLEY QUINN will be the perfect addition as the world’s most iconic Super Heroes and Super-Villains battle it out for dominance.” HARLEY QUINN Crazy Coaster takes thrills to a whole new level, as two trains race forward and backwards then charge each other head-to-head to create a dueling riding experience that only Six Flags could deliver. The dueling trains with 32 riders seated face-to-face, race repeatedly around a 360-foot circuit of lemniscate (figure eight) track. HARLEY QUINN Crazy Coaster highlights include: · Riders experience up to 12 head over heels inversions; · After the two trains travel back and forth, the ride does three forward rotations and another three in the opposite direction; · A tantalizing “High Five” moment – when the two high speed trains pass each other at a combined speed of 70 miles per hour giving the illusion that riders can actually reach out and “high five” the other riders as they careen by. HARLEY QUINN Crazy Coaster will be located across from THE JOKER and adjacent to SUPERMAN Ultimate Flight.
