S&S Launched Coaster Rising in Beijing
Olov replied to Gutterflower's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That's a very nice vid indeed, looks great and I think there could be some hint of airtime even on that big turn. Can't be too far away from opening now. Too bad TPR doesn't have lots of frequent asian contributors today that could give us some insights of how all these new rides are performing like when American, European and Australian rides opens up. (Love your work as always though, Dave) Maybe TPR could do some membership recruiting on the next china trip -

One of the first columns used for the bridge over/under the existing roller coasters has started to get erected. Photo from Gravity Groups facebook photo album. Photo from the Gröna Lund webcam. Walls are starting to raise for the new building of Blå Tåget as well. And some steel for the rail arrived a few weeks ago. Featured on picture is Peter Osbeck, photo taken by Mattias Banker and can be seen on rcdb.com -

I would guess that the launched coasters fit more with the theme of Ferrari racing cars. -

Today I had an opportunity to visit Gröna Lund to see how far into the construction of the new woodie and ghost train had come. I was happy to see that the staff of Gröna Lund and the construction entrepreneurs have not been on the lazy side. Unfortunately I don't own a good camera so my poor cellphone cam had to suffice. Hmm something is missing in this picture... Ah-ha! The housing of Blå Tåget has been demolished. The mandatory "big pile of dirt picture" Just some crap that need to be cleaned up before they can start with the foundation of the new building The excavator machines that are responsible for this mess Not much left of the building, just the area under the Rock-Jet And finally, a view from across the water And if someone is wondering, here are the before pictures Picture from Coasters&More.de Picture from Malcom's scanditrip.blogg -

Well I guess the staff at Liseberg felt equally as nostalgic as they have put up some pictures of past rides on their facebook. Most rides no longer remains at the park. Some excellent pictures of the old wooden roller coaster as well. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=15543&id=119312944764947&comments#!/album.php?aid=15543&id=119312944764947 -

Wow, I'm very surprised by this but it is almost exactly what I dreamed what Gröna Lund should have. Some weeks ago I scetched this thing... Poorly done MS paint scetch Damn, now I got to wait till next season, can't wait to ride this. Looks like a lovely wooden twister and I'm sure Gravity Group can provide some very nice airtime. It's seems like an european version of Cornball Express. The park is also improving the boardwalk and the "Tivoli theming" like what it used to look in the golden days of amusement parks (Coney Island, Luna Park during 19th-20th century). I hope the wooden coaster will get decorated by thousands of lights . What a nice view that would be at night across the pond. -

Well, I'm guessing since they're renovating the Blå Tåget they might put something on top of the roof on the same structure. But I doubt it'll be anything big since it's pretty late to start building anything major now and as have already been mentioned the space is pretty small, anywhere in the park. Also trying to keep my expectations low, might get surprised tomorrow. -

Gröna Lund Discussion Thread
Olov replied to Tobias94's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So I was thinking of creating a thread to have all the news about old and future rides and expansion and other Gröna Lund related topics. So first news, one of Gröna Lund's classic rides, the ghost train named Blå Tåget (The Blue Train) will close down on 9th of august. The ride will re-open in 2011 with the old name but with a total new building and ride. Featuring a new ride system capable of 4 riders/cart doubling capacity and running on a coaster track it'll be possible to lean the carts for added effects. The ghost train will feature new scare stunts designed by Gröna Lund's artists and engineers together with international professionals. There will also be another ride premiere next year but the official press release isn't until 9th of august. However Peter Osbeck, the park's head engineer promises it's one of the most exciting projects he has been working on. Consider he has been involved with the Insane and the Fritt Fall in the past it sounds promising Official press release (Swedish): http://www.gronalund.com/Global/Pressreleaser/Ny%20skr%c3%a4cktur%20p%c3%a5%20Gr%c3%b6nan%202011.pdf?epslanguage=sv Ride manufacturer: http://www.gosetto.com Blå Tåget, the new ghost train for 2011 Future expansion plans: So the park is looking for a new area to expand the park on and has for several years had it's eye on the parking lot next to the park. The area will feature at least two major rides. One inverted roller coaster (presumably B&M) and a 90+ m high Starflyer. The plans for the expansion has been approved in the first stages so far and is currently being worked on to finalize details. Of course the project has met complaints from the neighbors complaining about sound levels and restricted views over the water area. The park is working on reducing noise levels by adding tunnels, walls and with sand-filled track. However the city of Stockholm is a supporter of the project. If everything goes well it'll open in time for 2013 or 2014 season. Artist rendering of the expanded area The view across the pond Overview Another overview showing most of the inverted coaster layout The Starflyer which Whingård won an architecture competition to design the look of the tower Layout Swedish PDF from the city planning office: http://planer.sbk.stockholm.se/SBKPlanTemplates/DocumentDownload.aspx?FileId=1386010&FileName=Gestaltningsprogram.PDF&DataSource=2 Gröna Lund TPR Park Index page: http://www.themeparkreview.com/parks/page.php?pageid=315 Gröna Lund from above: http://www.gronalund.com/sv/Infor-besoket/panoramabild/ ADMIN EDIT: I have gone ahead and made a few modifications to this thread to convert it into the Gröna Lund Discussion Thread. Feel free to add any news to this thread you have, and this will be the place where anything regarding the park can be discussed. -

Olov replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
As I think has been said before in this thread it's more a question of economic funding rather than knowledge. Developing new (or re-inventing) technology isn't exactly cheap and Knoeble's is a family operated park with limited fundings. I might be wrong though... -

Yeah, I think it'll be much better than Höjdskräcken, wouldn't mourn if they took it down as well. I hope the gondola will produce that massive gust of wind when it lands in the basement. Feels very nice on a hot day. -

Just a guess but it could be because it's cheaper to standardize through the whole product line with the same type of restraint system. -

Well I was kinda expecting that to happen sooner or later since that's what they did at Gröna Lund and the observation tower today isn't a very popular attraction. The height is pretty comparable to Scream at Heide park which also is a converted observation tower. And it's a good ride too. http://www.heide-park.de Edit: can't get the direct address to the ride to work because of some stupid brackets but it's called Scream...
